Top speed of my dual BL.

Well I attempted a top speed run on my dual brushless Maxx yesterday. I only managed to record first gear though. It was really hard to drive and hold the radar gun at the same time. I managed to get 33mph out of first gear but chickened out on second gear. It was just too hard to drive that fast and hold the radar gun at the same time. Although I'm not too sure how acurate that speed was because of the fact that of maybe I didnt get it pointed right at it? So it may be more or less, I'm not sure.

My brother is coming over today so I will see if he can help me out.

I do know one thing for sure, this thing is way too heavy at 14lbs. and is in desperate need of some LiPos. That should knock it down to somewhere in the 12lb. range and help it out a bit.
I'll keep you posted.
John

Serum 08.30.2005 05:41 AM

Yeah! get a gunmen..

It might turn out handy..

Some guy with a bad sence of humor is telling he reached 45 mph on his hvmaxx, so you have got something to crush.....

It is the power that makes it hard to drive, dual is for sick people.. Is your therapist aware of your problem..?

14 lbs is not that bad...

But my guess is that on 24 cells you should be able to reach the 53 mph without too much trouble..

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 08.30.2005 06:04 AM

Lol! My therapist. She's the one that help me build it.
45mph out of an HVmaxx?? Interesting.
I'm actually running 28 cells so if I hit 50mph, I'll be happy. Anything more than that would be great.

Dafni 08.30.2005 07:46 AM

45mph on a HV??!! Yeah, probably the last run ever, before the motor exploded.

Glad to hear your dual truck is still going strong, Johnny. May I ask what gearing you use, and what motor?

Take care
DAF

sly118 08.30.2005 10:13 AM

we have a guy here in australia goin for the emaxx record ( 114 km/h ) he has hit 106 with a badly bent cvd and only 24 cells .. he goin for 32 cells i think .. shulze 40.160 and 1 hacker c50 , 27 tooth pinion 64 spur

Serum 08.30.2005 11:49 AM

ssshhht Sly... don't wake up Promod...

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 08.30.2005 01:53 PM

Hey Dafni,
I am using dual 9Ls with the 9918s and 66/20 for the gearing.

Nick 08.30.2005 01:54 PM

It shouldn't be any faster than a single 9L? Please explain if I'm wrong. :)

Serum 08.30.2005 02:01 PM

What do you mean Nick?

MetalMan 08.30.2005 02:10 PM

It can be faster, since each motor will have less of a load, he can gear up since the motors will not get as hot as if there were a single motor. Also, he has TWICE the available power as a single motor.

Serum 08.30.2005 04:16 PM

Amen.. that's why i didn't really get Nicks answer..

Twice the power doesnt mean twice the speed though.. my guess is it can be geared to the 55-60 mph.. (with the best cells available)

Nick 08.30.2005 06:05 PM

Oh, I see.

I was thinking that 2 motors couldn't go faster than 1 because they would still reach their limits equally.

Like the theory of dropping a weight, both the same size but 1 is slightly heavier, from a 200m drop they would go the same speed just the heavier one would reach top speed quicker.

I didn't think about heat though and gearing. Doh. :)

coolhandcountry 08.30.2005 06:15 PM

Think of it this way. It is like running a 9l on a 7 pound truck.

coolhandcountry 08.30.2005 06:32 PM

Makes me want to try a daul 7xl. 36 cells. 24 64 gearing. I think it would fly.

nbcaznmaster 08.30.2005 09:17 PM

thats crazy, but i woulda put like 8Ls instead cuz the e-maxx would require less torque from each motor and more high end speed. Hey! after ur done, would u mine selling me one of teh 9l and 9920? PLZZZZ?

lipomax 08.30.2005 11:33 PM

If you're only getting 33 mph in first gear, don't expect to hit 50 mph in second gear. You need to gear taller.

Serum 08.31.2005 12:58 AM

Yups..

gearing makes the difference. The power is available..

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 08.31.2005 02:11 AM

Well I tried for a 2nd gear run today, this time with my brother holding the radar gun. My problem was that I still havnt taken my spool out of the rear yet. 1st gear is able to track fairly straight, but with 2nd gear and all that torque, it wants to slide out. So with several tries and a couple near misses with the curb, I was only able to get 46mph. Even my brother who has been in to R/C cars & trucks for over 15 years couldnt get it to go straight. Yes Mike I know you keep telling me to take the spool out. :o

So tomorrow I will take out the spool and also install my FlexTek titanium arms I got today. I am pretty confident that it will break the 50mph barrier if I can get it to go straight and not have to worry about running into curbs.

I will take some pics of it when I'm done installing the arms so I can show it off to you guys.

John

Dafni 08.31.2005 02:30 AM

You may also want to adjust toe settings.

What tire do you run on what surface?

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 08.31.2005 02:42 AM

You are right Dafni on the toe settings. I was looking things over tonight and they are a little out of wack. I will adjust everything when I put my new control arms on.

I am running Proline Road Rage non 40 Series unfortunately. I am running on an asphalt street that is about 50 feet wide and I was still headed for the curb!

Serum 08.31.2005 04:39 AM

You need to treat those tires with an antiballooning medicure!

50!! you seriously need a therapist mate (though i heard about people reaching the 50mph with a single XL3100</span>

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 08.31.2005 04:49 AM

I actually put duct tape inside the tires. Virtualy no ballooning at all. I highly recomend this mod for anybody with a case of the baloons.:D

Serum 08.31.2005 05:01 AM

Yeah! me too!

That AND removing the spool.. LOL

RC-Monster Mike 08.31.2005 11:54 AM

Still sporting the spool! With that kind of power and speed, you are begging for a broken truck! Light oil in the diffs, and straight/even toe settings, along with a stiff servo saver and strong steering servo will be absolutely necessary to crank your truck up to 50mph with any chance of straight running. You could certainly reach over 50 with the dual setup.

nbcaznmaster 08.31.2005 12:17 PM

DUde, ur going about this the wrong way, you need different motors. COnsider what coolhand said. ITs like runing a 9l on a 7lb truck. WOuld u REALISTLICALLY run a 9l on a 7lb truck? No! u go for motors that use less batteries, and have higher rpm? The only reason motors like the 9l are use is for the torque. But since the wieht is cut in 1/2, you dont need that much torque.

nbcaznmaster 08.31.2005 12:19 PM

get dual c50 motors, get teh lowest turn you can get! Get steel gears for everythign. ALSO, COULD U PLEASE SELL ME ONE OF THE SYSTEMS SINCE 2 of them is OVERKILL, after your done with them?!?! PLZ!! I NEED BRUSHLESS IM DYING!! I HATE NTRO!!! I GOT 3 REVOS THAT DONT RUN!

nbcaznmaster 08.31.2005 12:59 PM

Have a heart! share teh wealth PLZZZZ!! :( :( :( :(

Serum 08.31.2005 01:22 PM

Amen!:D

Dafni 08.31.2005 02:02 PM

Gosh, and I thought I am crazy..... gotta tell my therapist about you guys. :L:

coolhandcountry 08.31.2005 03:08 PM

Ya'll think three 6xl would do better than 2 7xl. That would be killer. The drive train worries me.

Nick 08.31.2005 03:29 PM

Isn't a 7XL with 18 cells mental anyway? I'm sure thats capable of hitting 50mph on its own?

Serum 08.31.2005 03:37 PM

Jups..

It is Nick... It is..

(and once again.. All in the name of science...)

my goal is to build a new savage with a 8 or 9XL on 20 cells, lets see what that does..

Though i should consider doing something against those mosquitoes.. They are eating me at this moment.. perhaps it's a winter project.. my goal is to reach the 53mph, maybe it goes faster, maybe it's slower.. but the question is; who cares.. It's a nice project imo..

coolhandcountry 08.31.2005 03:54 PM

The 9 xl on 18 and 16 cells kicks some butt there serum. Not sure on speed yet. Need a gun to shoot it. Oh well. I have to get me one. I thought about getting another controller and seeing what it will do.
@ nick I had a 7xl that would run with traffic on a 55 mph highway. That should tell you something. It was on 18 cells. I loved that thing. Now I have a new love. 9xl I get a longer run time out of it. Not as fast though. I think it shoulf be around the 40 mph. Not to shabby for a 14 lb ready to run.

Serum 08.31.2005 04:00 PM

okay.. 9XL on 20 cells that is! 53mph is my goal, which could be reached with ease imo.. where did you get that 9XL Coolhand?

Good point. I agree. For me 14 cells is already enough.

Serum, will you get a Wanderer or Nemesis? I'm certainly keeping an eye on this project.

Serum 08.31.2005 04:36 PM

I think the wanderer.. Easier to lay hands on in coorporation with Mike.. ;) and about the same price to get it at my door..
