Sweet looking ride - if only they stayed that clean. Congrats....:) :)

MaxxFusion 01.27.2005 08:46 AM

Looks good. Post her up in the Photo Gallery.

RC-Monster Mike 01.27.2005 09:53 AM

Nice ride! I gotta get some of those komodo tires. Glad you took the pictures before you got it dirty. I think I see some aluminum bulkheads in your future. :)

rc4x4nut 01.27.2005 10:42 AM

Thanks for the compliments guys. There will definitely be some aluminum bulkheads in the near future. I am planning on getting the following soon:

- GA 7075 bulkheads
- GA 7075 diff cases
- Maximizer diff cups w/RRP gears (although I have heard that
traxxas redesigned the gears to be stronger)
- CVDs
- Lehner XL3600
- 9918

RC-Monster Mike 01.27.2005 11:00 AM

The newer Traxxas gears are in fact stronger (and cheaper) than the RRP gears. The 7075 bulkheads will be super strong, and a bit heavy, as will the 7075 diff cases. The 3600xl will be a rocket!

rc4x4nut 01.27.2005 11:08 AM

I figured that they were going heavy but GA is having a good sale on them so I figured I would get some. When I have the truck weighed it was at what I feel is a lean 7 lbs 3 3oz. I want to try and keep this under 10 lbs with batteries. I was even thinking about going with LiPos but I dont think the novak can handle them.

RC-Monster Mike 01.27.2005 11:14 AM

Was that weight with or without batteries? My full aluminum race g-maxx weighs just over 8 pounds with 12 cells, RTR. I could probably get it down around 6 pounds with lipos!

rc4x4nut 01.27.2005 11:18 AM

That weight was without batteries and with the stock wheels and tires. The komodos werent on yet. What was your setup to get your truck so light.

RC-Monster Mike 01.27.2005 11:23 AM

My setup is very similar to yours, except my motor and controller are a bit lighter than the novak (xl3100/9918 warrior), my shocks are a bit lighter (Traxxas big bores on this truck), and I modified some pro-line bowtie tires (shaved a couple ounces off each tire). The stock tires are HEAVY! My tires and wheels alone save over a pound of rotating mass vs. the stock tires. Your komodos should put your truck near the weight of mine.

rc4x4nut 01.27.2005 11:38 AM

Yeah the proline powerstrokes are not light at all but I think the weight gain is worth the performance. The novak motor is heavy weighing 295 grams. My old stock emaxx with some aluminum and 12 cells came in at 12lbs.

RC-Monster Mike 01.27.2005 04:01 PM

12 pounds is a TANK!

Juju 01.27.2005 04:25 PM

How can you get a Maxx so light?

Mine (gorrilla extended, stock A Arms, CVD, Titans/EVX, bulkheads, stock tires) is near 12lbs...

8lbs seems to be a dream for a full alloy GMaxx :)

rc4x4nut 01.27.2005 06:32 PM

How we get these trucks light totally amazes me. According to a review that I read the chassis only gained a few onces from stock and no weight gain with the G3 suspension. I love how light the GMaxx trucks are. I think I may go LiPos just to keep the weight down when I upgrade to a hotter brushless.

RC-Monster Mike 01.27.2005 06:39 PM

Juju,
Changing to a lighter wheel/tire combo saves over a pound - sometimes 2 pounds, depending on the combo. This alone makes a huge impact. Also, the brushless system has one motor and controller (the one motor is slightly lighter than one titan and the controller is lighter than the evx as well). These simple changes really lighten up the truck. Also, I do not use a shift servo (removed from truck), and I remove half of the tranny gears as well. It adds up quick!

rc4x4nut 01.27.2005 06:43 PM

Mike,

I take it that you locked you tranny into second? I was thinking about doing it but I kind of like changing gears during bash sessions. Did you here about this prototype tranny that is in the works for the GMaxx.

RC-Monster Mike 01.27.2005 06:46 PM

Of course I heard about it! I am a tester for G-maxx! I will get the first prototype and have had a few discussions with George about it.

rc4x4nut 01.27.2005 06:50 PM

Cool:D Please keep us informed on this tranny. Until this tranny is available to us how did you go about locking the emaxx transmission. I have seen various ways and I am not too sure about all of them.

HotnCold 01.27.2005 06:51 PM

Unlike Mike - :-P - I have not removed any of the tranny internals - I have my tranny locked in a gear - if i want to change the speed - i would just have to lock it into the other gear - with a small wire or zip tie - it has never failed me yet - I have replaced both the first and second idler gear - if something happens to the gear im running in - i can make a simple pinion change and use the operational gear in the tranny - quick fix kind of...and i dont have the weight of the trans servo weighing me down -
Hey mike - what would you say my maxx weighs with batts???

gixxer 01.28.2005 12:09 AM

nice looking truck. Those komodo's should really lower your weight compared to the stock ones.

rc4x4nut 01.28.2005 12:25 AM

They did and it feels like it woud grip alot more than the stock ones even with less footprint. At first I didnt really like the look but I am starting to like it more and more.

gixxer 01.28.2005 12:56 AM

i like the look of the smaller komodos and run them on my truck with the novak hv and lipos (pictured in gallery). When the weather clears up though I plan on putting my 8l in it just to test it out, but i think the novak will be all i really need for the track.

rc4x4nut 01.28.2005 12:59 AM

Yeah I thought all I needed was the HV Maxx also but I keep seeing these other trucks with some serious power. I am actually selling my HV Maxx now and buy a motor and controller from Mike.

Wow! Nice ride - looks like the truck I was going to build.

Let me know if you have any problems with the Proline shocks - they are larger than normal any clearance issues?

The tranni prototypes are comming soon - I'll post it here (and yes Mike will put it through its paces)

BTW - Here's another Komodo G-Maxx (photo from customer) - But I think you have it beat with the G3.

HotnCold 01.28.2005 07:19 AM

komodos

I can tell you one thing about those tires - they will turn circles around other emaxx tires - the diff in size will really make your truck turn on a dime... Waiting for mine as we speak....

RC-Monster Mike 01.28.2005 10:19 AM

George, That truck looks familiar to me! I think I worked on that truck for the owner in the past. We met at a race track in NJ if it's the truck I am thinking of. The guy's name was Andrea or something like that (he was a hell of a nice huy and spoke with an accent). Is that the truck? If it is, the guy ran on 16 cells and it was a very nice truck!

rc4x4nut 01.28.2005 10:45 AM

The only problem I had with the proline and the G3 is that the shocks rubs on the body mount. So what I did was just sanded it down just a tad. No biggie.

That truck is a beauty. The wheels looks like its from RCALLOYS. I was going to go with aluminum wheels but I figured that the komodos are less forgiving than the stockies and didnt want to risk ruining them. Plus weight savings...lol:D

MaxxFusion 01.28.2005 10:55 AM

Ya my Integy MSR5 Piggybacks rub a little in the same place. It need to come out about 1/8" or so.

rc4x4nut 01.28.2005 10:58 AM

These arent that bad. I woud say about less than 1/8 with the prolines. It is just the fins that are rubbing but still allows shock movement.

RC-Monster Mike 01.28.2005 11:12 AM

I just clicked the link in your earlier post (single speed conversion). I though you were talking about the G-maxx conversion. That center diff mount is my idea and my design. I re-designed it from that picture as well and will make it in aluminum. The single speed Gorillamaxx is making works similar to the modified tranny I currently run, but in a smaller , lighter, neater, cleaner design.

rc4x4nut 01.28.2005 11:16 AM

Hmmm...now your making me decide what I want to do. We will see when the time come I guess. Hey if you guys need an extra tester I will step up to the plate.:D

MaxxFusion 01.28.2005 11:20 AM

Cant wait for both of these :)

rc4x4nut 01.28.2005 11:23 AM

I cant either. Its going to be a great weight savings.

EVANg 02.12.2005 02:08 PM

I was woundering if most of you buy an e-maxx and upgrade it, or do you just order all the parts from gmaxx to make a whole truck?

RC-Monster Mike 02.12.2005 02:10 PM

It can be done either way. the only part that isn't available as a seperate unit is the transmission. Everything else can be purchased as an upgrade seperately.

MaxxFusion 02.12.2005 02:27 PM

I got a stock emaxx first. As I upgraded the parts I sold off the stock parts on ebay.

RC-Monster Mike 02.12.2005 02:29 PM

My first e-maxx was the original truck (not the wide version and had the vx12 speed controller). This one I upgraded from stock. The rest of my e-maxxes were built from aftermarket parts.

rc4x4nut 02.12.2005 03:41 PM

I started out with a whole new truck and now I have enough parts to complete a whole emaxx. If you plan on upgrading everything then just build your own truck. The only thing left stock on my truck is the transmission, turn buckles, and the steering blocks but those will be upgraded soon.

EVANg 02.12.2005 11:19 PM

Wow this furum is quick! Some take days to recive on reply, in about an hour I got 4 replies, i likey.

rc4x4nut 02.13.2005 03:29 AM

I visit the site a couple of times a day to read up on some info that I may have missed. So you can count on my reply if I know something on that subject.
