castel phoenix 110amp controller..anyone using in a 1/8 buggy?

Anyone using http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...XLBY5&P=7:lol: in a buggy w/ success. I realize no reverse and must use w/ mech. brakes. Just wondering:smile:

you'd have to use mech. brakes for sure.. but it would work... what Motor you plan on using?..

magman 04.15.2008 05:21 PM

for now I would use a 9xl...but later a 1512 Neu if it would work w/ them

aqwut 04.15.2008 05:31 PM

how many cells are you planning to use...

magman 04.15.2008 05:48 PM

for now I would use 4s...later w/ the Neu 5 or 6s

aqwut 04.15.2008 05:50 PM

why not get a phoenix 125..?.

magman 04.15.2008 06:07 PM

jzemaxx 04.15.2008 06:27 PM

HV110 rocks...I have been using mine for some time with no problems.

magman 04.15.2008 06:32 PM

Can the Phoenix esc's be programmed w/ the castle link?

jzemaxx 04.15.2008 07:50 PM

you could save a few bucks by waiting for the MMM, the HV110 is extreme overkill for what you are planning to use, its good for up to 50v (13s)

Because its junk for car applications....

I had one in my savage with a 7XL and 4s lipo and it was cogg city it would constantly cut in and out, totally undriveble. I now use a turnigy HV 100 amp esc with great results. I have also heard other guys using the HV phoenix with great results too.

FYI: The HV-110 is conservatively rated at 110A. Looking at the specs sheets, it could easily be relabeled as a HV-130 (and that's including temperature derating for ~170*F!)

Hey Brian, any idea how good the hv85 is? I have one and plan on using it with 8s lipo and a 1200kv motor in my flm savage. I figured that 85 amps at 30v would be sufficent to get the truck moving. Looks to be about 2.5hp if the system is about 80% eff.

I have no idea about the HV-85. The 110 uses 3 power PCBs, so that works out to about 36A/PCB. I imagine the 85 uses fewer FET PCBs - prob 2 - but that works to an "HV-72". Either that or they use different PCBs, which would make no sense really. Either way, I think it should work fine.
