My BLST Conversion.
4 Attachment(s)
Hey guy's,
I finally got some pics of my BLST (Brushless Losi Super Truck, for the uninitiated.) & still have to wait for my ESC Quark SSB & gotta get off my arse & get this motor mount made up. Got the battery tray in, the heatsink & clutch adapter for the motor. I have pics, just hope they turned out. |

So are you still using the clutch or are the shoes locked?
What are you doing for a motor mount? |
You mustn't be wearing your glasses today.
Read what I wrote & look at the pics. I have included the design for my mount & you can see that I have the entire clutchbell & clutch assembly attached to the Feigao in the 3rd pic. Also, if you look at the 2nd pic in the first post you will see that the clutch shoes are intact & so are the springs. This set up will save the motor from sudden stops from 50,000 RPM as I have NO intention of loosening the slipper. The mount is a custom design by me & needs to be machined. I have the aluminium here, just lazy. Are you building one of these or just asking questions for the sake of it? |
looks good dude.. but aren't you worried that the clutch bell is so far from the shaft.. it could be putting a lot of strain on the 5mm Feigao shaft & bearing.. other than that, it looks awesome... !
|
Looks good! What chassis CF top plate is that (mfg)?

The motor mount will fill that space between the clutchbell & faceplate. The clutch adapter covers 10mm of the shaft. Seeing that you just mentioned about the support, I might press fit a bearing into the frontplate of the mount.
The whole truck is carbon, from the top plates under the shock towers to the plate behind the bulkheads & also the skid plates underneath. I've got alot of pics of it. I actually saw Holeshot Engineering's design & asked if it could be modded & he agreed. So, I sent him my design & he made it for me. He also sold alot of them too. It's not much lighter than the original alloy, but, it is much more rigid. The truck should weigh in at approx 5.3kg, sorry, I only know metric. The original LST 2 is a porky 5.8kg. So, I guess half a kg weightloss is better than a kick in the arse. The attached pics are of my LST when it was being built as a nitro. |

Nice work here. I like it a lot. Great job!
|
Thanks.
Just ordered 2 MMM's. I also have a Quark SSB on order. I guess if I get screwed around by my Quark supplier I can always use the MMM's. Also changing to 18.5v 6000mah batt's. |
Damn, coming along very nice
|
Well, as promised here are some pics of my Quark SSB Mk III.
The nicely presented box. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...f/Inthebox.jpg Hand held controller for adjustments at the track. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Controller.jpg Oh baby!! Need I say more? http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...uff/TheESC.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...mmmmniiice.jpg Power pack http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1.../Powerpack.jpg ESC fan http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pingitcool.jpg & a bit of gratuitous advertising. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...dvertising.jpg |
Oh I forgot to mention that the two Mamba Monster Max ESC's I ordered have been sent.
I got the email today. Plus my buggy & truggy conversions are on their way too. Anyone know where I can get some decent 18.5v 6000mAh packs similar dimensions to the Maxamps but without the price tag? |
post some pics of your motor mount when you finish it.
I'm in the process, a very slow process, of building up a bl aftershock. I have a MMM on the way, but still need a motor and motor mount. |

I've got a serious medical condition & have been a bit busy to get to the engineering place that's going to machine it for me. There is a pic of my design. It's more suited to a Feigao motor & the clutch adapter is a custom job too. Check out the Revo conversion from Tekno & you'll see their clutch adapter. Mine's virtually identical except with a few changes here & there. |
Here's my ESC wired & powering the controller.
99% wired up, just need female bullets to connect motor. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...alebullets.jpg Used my RC18 pack to power it up to play. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ituptoplay.jpg Shows torque settings http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...uesettings.jpg General overview http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...aloverview.jpg I love this new technology. |
Very nice.
Where did you get it? What is the continuous amp rating? |
That's a very nice looking controller, with some nice huge caps. I would think this would be pretty smooth. It will be nice to see if quark has worked out their previous issues which kept me away from buying one.
This is gonna make one hell of a nice looking truck! |

The guy, Aiden, from Ark was using the Monster Pro before & had some issues with it & then this was released. 120amps upto 6s with an inbuilt BEC Hand controller He sponsors onroad racers & was saying that they went to Asia in 40c weather everyone's ESC's had thermalling issues except this one. He was using it in a Losi 8 buggy at our local track running 6s & a Neu 1515/1Y/S, it was freakishly fast on a hot 37c day & had no issues till his steering servo decided to stop. Yeah, it'll be nice when I can get off my ass & get the mount machined, I have the metal & the plans, but, no time. ESC Specs Input Voltage Ni-MH 4-18 cell, Lithium 1-6 cell Current 120amps Continuous (@Full throttle) Resistance (is futile, hehehe) Brushless 0.00036ohms Brushed 0.00012ohms Braking 4 types All Programmable Drag Brake Adjustable Voltage Cut-Off Automatic/Adjustable Motor Limit No Limit (540 size) Reversible Yes/Adjustable BEC 5.5V/5A (Input 8.4V, Peak 8A) Footprint 45mm x 30mm Weight 58 grams (w/o wires) |
I am curious to see how it will compare to the MMM. They both can do the same voltage and both are very adjustable.
|
Yes im am also very curious, I was planning on using a quark 125b on my lst conversion, but this looks rather tempting to get instead, i just wonder how well it will fair with teh added weight, make sure to keep us posted on how it works.
|
Will do.
I also have two MMM's on their way for my truggy & buggy. Yeah, they're both very adjustable, but, the Quark has the handheld unit which IMO is much easier to take to the track. I don't have a laptop & my extension cord doesn't reach that far. So, it was a logical choice for me. I don't believe the weight will be an issue as it has virtually the same specs as the Monster Pro. Eh, have to wait & see. |
All mounted & wired up. It runs!! But no drive as I STILL don't have the mount made.
So bloody busy. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...motormount.jpg Looks nice & low. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...wlowisthat.jpg See Mike, the brake pads foul on the Neu motor. Oh well. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...conversion.jpg I'm running a stock 46T spur. What pinion should I use 15-16-17-18-19-20? Not sure. |
Hey guy's, it's been quite a while since I've been here & I thought I'd show my BLST as it stands today.
All the above plans went AWOL. After 4 girlfriends, a serious operation to remove a 4inch blood clot from my right lung which I now need a transplant & a trip to India in Feb this year, I have finally finished my BLST as of 2 days ago!! Enjoy the crappy pics. The Quark was tested & blew up twice, it's now where it belongs (in a 1/10 car), the Feigao also went poof & it now holds a Mamba 1717 1Y 1580kv on 6S. Only tested on 4S so far with great flipping results. 2 Speed adapter from Losi is used with the standard 2speed trans & 8man +4 pinions. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ewoflayout.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...tenedwires.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Motormount.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...viewofBLST.jpg |
UPDATE!!
Got the new XT60 plugs today. Soldered them on & went for a blast on 6S. It's too fast to shoot footage while driving. So, video to come, plus(!) I'm going to try get some video footage driving on the freeway for a real speed test the way it should be done!! http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...thanaDeans.jpg |
Nice setup.
Can you give more details on the 2 speed adapter please? Any pictures of this or the pinion/spur with cover removed? Thanks Brow |
Thanks.
I don't have time this morning to take a pic as I'm taking my truck to work at RC Garage today. Here's the part I bought. http://www.losipartshouse.com/servle...nt-cln-/Detail |
Thanks Mozzy. Now what pinions fit this adapter?
Do you know if it is the same as Mikes? |
There's a guy that makes hardened pinions for the LST.
He calls his pinions 8man or something like that. I haven't bought anything off him in quite a while & can't remember the details. Google? I have no idea if it's the same as Mikes. Can you get a pic of his & compare the two side by side? Anyway, here's a couple more pics. The last one happened today driving extremely sedately on a 1/10 off-road track. I'm changing the TiNi gears for the plastic version as they have more biting surface area & don't concentrate the load on one narrow point, plus, it will hopefully be quieter. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1.../2speedtop.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...peedsideon.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...cebulkhead.jpg |
Ok, here we go again!!
I broke the front bulk head again!! I think cart wheels is what causes that! lol Here's a short video of my BLST on the beach with paddles. I recommend this for everyone EXCEPT(!!) stay away from wet sand as it sticks to everything!! Apologies fro the wind noise. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...onthebeach.jpg |
