My BL MQ SE

Just thought I would share some pics of my newly completed MQ SE. It has the following:

HiTec HS-81MG Servo
Castle Sidewinder ESC
Multiplex Permax BL480/3D Motor
Spektrum SR3500 Rx
Dualsky 1700mAh 2S Lipo
Geared 19:45

It's quite a handful at anything past half throttle and will spin all 4 wheels at will on the asphalt anytime I get trigger happy.

Nice MQ!

I tried updating the firmware in my Mamba 25 and now its looked up and I cant drive my BL MQ SE:(

Mine is very much like yours.

HiTec HS-85BB Servo
Castle mamba25 ESC
Mega 16/15/3
Spektrum SR3000 Rx
MA 1500mAh 2S or 3s TP PL 1320's
Geared stock (16/45?)

It's cool on 2s but on 3s TP PL 1320's and it's stupid fast 40+mph. I need to get my esc fixed or replaced soon.

lincpimp 04.26.2008 01:45 PM

That guy looks familiar?!

Glad that you are having fun with it!

lutach 04.26.2008 02:14 PM

Very nice. That was exactly what I was waiting for someone to do. Now I know the real size of the SideWinder. I will be using one in a Recoil with a Mega ACn16/15/1 (9200Kv) or a Neu 1107/1.5D (8500Kv). Thank you.

Even with the new firmware, the Mamba25 will have trouble with the Mega. I tried it even unloaded and it just didn't do it. Get the Side Winder and see if it helps.

Takedown 04.26.2008 02:57 PM

Linkin the sidewinder. My bro loves his SW4600 setup in his trinity now. Its absolute overkill but who cares...

aqwut 04.26.2008 03:20 PM

nice dude... that's awesome overkill.. wicked...

I decided on the Sidewinder since it was the same price as the Mamba 25. Aside from that, I knew I'd have room for it in the vehicle and figured it'd just run that much cooler with this motor on it.

Buzzsaw46 04.26.2008 06:13 PM

That multiplex motor is big isn't it, I thought they were the same size as the mega!!

Well this post got me thinking and I dropped a MM in. Then I was like well I'm working on it, can I make a 2s 1100mah A123 fit and sure enough it does, with a slight trim of the chassis. Still not the smoothest startup with high timming and low start power. Broke another knuckle and stripped the servo gears not sure if I have spare gears or not?

This was also my first drive on some new tires. I bought the 12mm adaptors and picked up some SNR rally tires, they are about 10mm taller than the stock pin tires and the same width. They are quite heavy compared to the stock tires and rims though so that might be part of the rough start.

A123's will kick butt though I have been charging the 1100mah cells at 8.8amps and they stay cool at 10a they were getting warm. So charge times will be very short and I think these 2s 1100mah packs are only $20!

Most folks have used the Permax BL400 in the past which is 28 x 36mm. The BL480 I've got in here is 30 x 49.5mm. It's about the same physical size as a Feigao 380S motor. I was thinking about a Mega or Neu for one of my XTM Rage trucks, but after running this Permax, I have a hard time wanting to shell out the extra $ for something besides the Permax.

Buzzsaw46 04.26.2008 07:38 PM

$70 is a nice price when Mega's are $100 and Neu's are nearly $200. I bought my 2 16/15's when they were only $70 about 6-7 years ago.

Man Tower had the specs way wrong for your motor. I bet that is a serious handfull!!

I paid $89.60 for my 1107/1.5D http://www.flydma.com/catalog/produc...roducts_id=246 and $88.00 for my ACn16/15/1 http://www.icare-rc.com/mega.htm.

I believe that flydma only has a few models available now and is working on closing them out since they are no longer distributors for Neu. They had many more models available at one time and the current options are pretty sparse. Aside from flydma, Atlantahobby.com and Espritmodel.com are the cheapest places I've seen the small Neus.

The Mega is a little more affordable than the Neu though ($85 at nesail.com).

You must have been looking at the BL400/4D. They have the correct specs on the BL480/3D:

The search I did came up with a motor esc combo that listed the motor kv at like 1290 or something close to that and I couldn't imagine it being all that fast, once I saw it was a 4100kv motor I relized what you are trying to control! Thats a big fast motor Dude! does the stock mmotor mount work? I saw one for 540 sized motors on ebay once.

It mounts in the stock motor mount like a glove. I just had to shave down the small chassis brace that's behind the servo a bit because of the length of the motor. I also went with a smaller cased servo for that same reason as well.

sean your mini quake looks very nice .

beautiful build, you do fine work

Sean, how's the truck holding up? It looks like a beast

Almost 2 full battery packs through it and only have a broken body post to show for it. I haven't even had to install my aluminum knuckles yet, but I haven't cartwheeled it very much yet...only a couple of times.

lutach 04.28.2008 05:05 PM

Are you able to use bigger pinions or are you limited to only one size? My MLST with a 28mm diamete motor can only accept 27T pinion with a 54T spur.

I'm running a 19T pinion (45T spur) on it right now and could go probably down to a 15T or up to a 23T if need be. It's got a decent amount of adjustability.

That is cool. Are you planning on trying a 23T just to see what it does :intello:.

I think I have up to a 21T for it, but I'll have to find a nice parking lot to try it in. It's quite tedious trying to get it up to full speed in front of my house as it loses traction very easily. I may be looking into getting a Bushnell radar gun soon, so I may have to actually radar it and see what it's really doing.

That would be cool to drive though. How fast do you think it's going now? I'm still thinking if I should put my Mega ACn16/15/1 or my Neu 1107/1.5D in a Recoil. Those 2 motors are up there in the Kv.

killajb 04.28.2008 09:28 PM

Lutach,

I have a Recoil with a Hyperion Y-22 6000kv motor in it and it's insane. Running on 3s is about all one can handle on a race course. My ESC is capable of 4s, but I haven't tried any "seriously insane" speed runs yet, despite having a wide open area. Temps are so-so.. I put a fan next to the motor and used the heatsink that came with the brushed motor in the kit to keep things in check.

It's geared for right at 40mph and it's probably realistically somewhere in the 37-38mph range. I need to grab some video of a speed run with it if I can this weekend.

I don't have the Recoil yet. I was trying to see if someone could fit a 28mm motor in them and I know they can as I saw a guy with one in rctech. I do have the YC22-5000 in my MLST and a esc that is 6S capable . I will use the Sidewinder though with the Recoil.

Hey 30mph+ is still fast for this little guys. My MLST is really fun to drive at those speeds . I might put the YS22-3000 back in as I was just in love with the torque it makes and still pushes the MLST t oaround 25mph. Before I installed the 5000 I took my MLST to Xtreme RC Addicts indoor track and it was fun to drive and keep up with the Recoils there .

Buzzsaw46 04.29.2008 07:25 AM

They do get crazy at those speeds. My roof is darn near wore through all the way across the back from high speed wheelies showing off on 3s(trying to get to full throttle) with the 16/15/3. I thought it was close to 45mph but a check on the speed calc put me in the high 30's also, looked terribly fast.

Putting 300+watts through the drive train was taking a toll on it though. About a dozen packs and the rear out drives were looking pretty beat.

I switched mine over to 2s 1100mah A123's this weekend and just dropped in a 3400kv outrunner tonight to make up for lost voltage from the 2s lipo. Probably will run mid 20's now which is fast enough and dosen't tear up the drive train so much.

Suns up I gotta go try out this outrunner:)
