Q. its hard to tell from the pics, but did you trim the bulkhead, or the A-arm to fit it to the rear bulks?

I took my lower rear A-Arms and grinded down to it fit inside my bulks. I thought of doing it your way, but thought I would try something different? They both work fine and didn’t want to be (total poser) by copying you plan exactly.

Can't wait to see that beast running, did the Gmaxx driveshafts fit with the new E-maxx tranny? I see the front shaft isn't installed yet.

One last thing you have to do, (apart from the radio), Get one of those Gmaxx stickers on the smooth Neu can, thats become signature TDC57 now

P.S.
This thing sits lower to the ground them my GEVO?? Is this correct?? I'm assuming it will handle totally awesome?! But I'm just not used to a ground clearance of 3” for an E-Maxx, is this rite??

jordan... 04.28.2008 04:33 AM

love the slammed look you get with the Gmaxx shock towers, i think the low clearance is right, just helps to lower the cg i guess. Anyway, looks really awesome :great:

and no, im not going to be one of those guys that says, "now go out there and smash it into a million pieces" because i know how much time and effort (and $$$) goes into one of these things, so yeh, HAVE FUN!!

Well after a crushing blow to both my ego and my GEVO,

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_2715.jpg

As Buda once said Quote! “As everything must that lives a life must die a life to provide a new. The saying couldn’t be truer in regards to my G3 with G3.3 suspension. I was able to remove the existing motor, SEC, BES, and Rx as unit and install them in my G3. (YES!!)

This means at be back up in operation mode, with a brand new truck, one that’s on it’s first adventure!!

Wish me luck!..

Here is what my G3 went thought to become my new roller!..

RTR roller, I actually took it out front for a quick 4-6 pass run to ensure that all parts are functioning, she seams to handle better than my Gevo?. Tomorrow at the park will tell the true tale..

PS.
A few different mod’s you’ll notice:
• Yes that a 3905 Transmission on a G3 chassis
• Yes I shortened the top output shaft of the transmission to bring in the slipper clutch closer, hence bringing in the pinion farther up the shaft
• Yes that is the Tenko, Revo wing mount kit
• Yes I did install 3905 drive shafts with 8 scale hybrid dif one each end with a Traxxas trany in the middle
• Yes those are FLM front and rear skid plates
• Yes that is the 3905 single motor mount (to center my CG) and gear cover

Have a great one..

Shaun.

Good morning team,
Here is the Video footage of my first official run in on my G3. :yipi:

A few things to note!
• Yes that’s me running myself down:tongue:
• Yes that is my Boy almost running himself down
• My son took 70% of the video footage :whip:
• My son is driving for last few clips (Not a bad driver for 11 year old)
• Most importantly nothing broke.. :gasp:

It does handle really well, Im suprized how much grip those tires have on grass. I can only dream of doing donuts like that- think I need to get some more powerful servos, or proper offroad tires....

TDC57 05.14.2008 05:08 AM

It does handle great Neil,
But I think that has to do with the 3.3 susp and the low CG??.. , I was shocked though at how well it whent the first time out.. (kind of pround of myself).. no issues at all..

For what it's worth,
I'm using the JR DS8711 400oz servo and I'm using bow-teis in the front and Crime fighters in the rear.. which you probolly already knew.. nothing gets past you..::yes:lol:

Thanks for your time Neil..

Have a great day..

Shaun.

Question

Hey TDC I could use some help since you have already completed your latest build. I am working on a project and I just received a pair of FLM hybrid diff/bulks from RCM. I got the hardened steel gear set, and the heavy duty pinion gear with the outdrive coupler. I never realized that the 1/8 diffs were so heavy duty. The mere size of the pinion shaft is very surprizing. The only thing that is missing is the pinion bearings & of course shims. Do you know what size the bearings are and where on might get them? A link would be nice. If I can get a list of the various sizes that I need I was thinking about purchasing like 100 bearings from Avid, since they are $1 each. Also are there any aluminum diff cups that will work on the Hot Body diffs? I do know that there are a set of aluminum "Torsen" diffs but at $120 a piece that is more than I wish to spend on one diff. I purchased the "Hot Body" diffs with the helical tooth ring and 10T-pinion gears, and I really like the way they look. For the price they look like they will hold up to pretty much anything in the Monster trucks. So if you have some info I would appreciate the assistance. Thank you.

Hay Jerry!!
I got lost a few places along the way, so lets try this.. I’m sorry I haven’t had much sleep lately and I’m to doing the best I can, so please work with me here ..

You’ve got these FLM bulks, these are awesome (great decision)
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...LM18700&cat=47

(Got lost here)??
You’ve got these hardened steel gear set and heavy duty pinion gear (??)
(this??) http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...RO_DIFF&cat=47
(this??) http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...GY_DIFF&cat=47
(Or) ????

Yeah the Pinions are huge and 1/8 diffs will / should withstand even your punishment ..

The Pinion bearing for a 1/8 diff is / are 8x16. You would need four of them total, two for each pinion (assuming that you are using them in the FLM bulks). Mine came with my kits, so I don’t understand why your missing yours, but here a link to buy some proper bearings http://www.ultimatehobbies.com/istar...6BEARINGS!1001

(Got lost here)??
Regarding the list for various sizes for bearings?? For what part?? your outdrive couplers (??) if yes then assuming that you have the 1/8 HPI diffs?? They are also 8x16 or should I say that the FLM bulks required 8x16 bearings, a total of 4 per each bulk (two for the outdrive couplers and two for the pinion), no other bearings are required for the diffs. my transmission takes a 5x10 on the output shafts (4) of them total, my 3905 slipper clutch takes the 5x10 and the only other bearings are for the drive lines / steering blocks, What am I’m missing?? :mdr: note if you dont have the attached Diffs, then get 4 of each of the following bearings (8x12, 8x14, 8x16)

I’m sorry sir but I;m not aware of any aluminum diff cups for these diffs.
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...RO_DIFF&cat=47
I would assume that any 1/8 aluminum diff cups would work?? But I wouldn’t bank on it!, it’s just an assumption.. Sorry but I can’t help here...

I would love to see some pictures or the link to your new hot body diff with the helical tooth ring and 10T-pinion gears (got any you can share)??

I hope this helps??.

Have a great one Jerry

Intengy steering blocks SUCK...

Good morning team,
I'm usually upbeat about things and try to look at the positive side of life and what it deal you, but I had / felt the need to express my latest experience with my Truck.. It bitch’en time!.. :whip:

These SUCK!!!! :diablo:They are Intengy Evolution-4 Steering Block that I paid just under $80.00 for!, DON’T EVER BUY THEM… I noticed after a few runs (2-3) that my wheels were wobbling?? So after na examination of all parts it was determined that no mater what I did I couldn’t tighten down the Pivot Ball caps enough, they would go in as far as they were required. RRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_2794.jpg

So I replaced the CRAP ones with RPM blocks and while I was there I also removed the steel pivot balls and replaced them with Traxxas Hard-Anodized 7075-T6 Aluminum ones, I ended up saving a total of 1 once of weight and they work great! No more tire wobbling! (Thank you RPM)..

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_2795.jpg

Just wanted to share / let you know my thoughts!! DON’T buy Integy steering blocks.

Thanks for your time and have a great weekend!..

Shaun.

JERRY2KONE 05.17.2008 03:35 AM

Puzzling

Your problem is a little bit puzzling. What is so out of wack to cause that kind of play in your steering blocks. I was about to order a set of those Integy blocks since I already have a set of the high velocity shafts, because the shafts will not fit the regular Maxx steering blocks. So I thought I would try them out on one of my trucks. Send them my way. Anyway as far as the bearings go I have found a very reasonable place to purchase bearings at about $1.50 per bearing. I tried Avid but they are very low on stocks right now. I ordered about 20 of each size for the EMaxx and also got a digital caliper for $9 so I can measure my own stuff from now on. Check out VXB bearings on line. The distributor is in California and from what I can tell they fill orders for many of the popular R/C companies and have full sets for just about every vehicle in the hobby, that are even cheaper than what you find on the R/C sites but still good quality. The also sell the teflon sealed and ceramic bearings to, but I do not want to pay $5 a piece for R/C bearings

I have not tired to post any photos on here yet. I have not gotten to the point of knowing how to do this. I will try soon to set something up so I can put pics up on RCM. I don't feel like I have anything special since most of the builds have been seen somewhere in the past in one way or another. I am just trying to have some fun and I love building the ultimate projects. Bulletproof is a thought that goes into everything that I build, from R/C to woodworking, to welding. I want the things that I build to out last me on this planet. I guess they never learned that in places like Burma or China.

TDC57 05.17.2008 04:10 AM

Hay Jerry..

Well I do have to admit that I'm your typical type A personality ( I need / want to have everything perfect) they might be good enough for some?? But they aren’t good enough for most.. (You fit in the most category Jerry)

The wobbling is up and down, when the tires are removed you can grab the steering blocks and move them around (left, right and up-down), they aren’t tight / snug against the pivot balls and when you have the tires installed it just magnifies the issue to an unacceptable state.. Sure they look pretty but looks and functionality are two different things in my book..

The RPM blocks have no movement and yet still provide the availability of a free flowing steering and are firm but yet supple against the rear balls (hhhhhaaa hhhaa) sorry about that..

Posting is easy!! Just open a photobucket account www.photobucket.com (it’s free) an upload load your pictures from your computer to photobucket and copy the (IMG code) then paste the code into a word or the forum document.. I can snap a shoot with my camera, download it into my computer and upload it in photobucket and post it live on the web in about 3 minutes..

That’s great to hear about your bearing find, forward over the link when you have a spar moment for the rest of us..

Have a great one.

Shaun.

JERRY2KONE 05.17.2008 06:21 AM

Ok

Still if you want to trash the steering blocks let me know. I will take them off of your hands and see if they can be salvaged for anything useful. I have two stock EMaxx's for the kids to play with, so I may be able to put them to good use in those. I will look into the photobuket some time this week as I am on my own for a week. I just dropped the wife off at the airport for a trip to California. WWW.VXB.COM is the stie where I purchased the bearings. It looks promising to me. Plus getting the digital caliper will be a great help with these bearing issues. Ok well now that I have the house to myself for a week I have to see what kind of trouble I can get into. I have so many projects to get to and the Honey-Do list is long as well.

GorillaMaxx360 05.17.2008 09:45 AM

i will second the garbage integy blocks i could tighten them down all the way they just had bad machine marks so they where not smooth, and they loosened quickly and flelt very junky. i am using the stock hubs untill i can afford the rpm ones

So have you checked out VXB yet? What do you think? I am curious about others thoughts and feelings on the site and product line. If you place an order let me know. Good luck on that and on your next project TDC.

Yea the wife is visiting with family in California, and the kids are still staying with their Grandparents until we leave Brussels 01/July for our trip to Korea.

I don't quite understand the problem with the integy steerink knuckles?

I would personally avoid the aluminum pillowballs, since they tend to break, and don't have got a hex head on both sides (like the UE's). With aluminum arms, aluminum bulks there is about 0 flex possible, so something has to give at a certain wheelcart/bad landing.

here is my Q about the integy aluminum knuckles; could you imagine they would work with the original revo/maxx 3.3 plastic pillowball retainers? and what retainers are you using? since they don't tighten the ball up deep enoug i assume the knuckles aren't threaded deep enough?

Good evening Serum,
One would assume that they would work (in theory), but unfortunately I tried both my aluminum and plastic retainers, the main problem is the threads are not deep enough to achieve a snug fit. Plus after my third attempt of tighten them up the threads started to give out, so one problem compounded into two. Bottom line (in my opinion) they are poorly constructed and are apparently made for shelf queens only.

I’ve had several different knuckles over the last few builds and I’ve never experienced anything like what I experienced with Integy ones. I’ve had great success with RPM and as soon I installed them the problem was solved, the bummer was it cost me $80.00 for that lessen learned. True in the grand scheme of this truck the costs $80 is nothing but it might be for other family members who are looking to upgrade their babies. I felt compelled to share my experience and thoughts with the team, in hopes for saving at least one other person the frustration / the same lesson I leaned.

I found your comment regarding the aluminum pivot balls extremely interesting, I never thought to look at that way before, would a better choice be the titanium ones??. I’ll love this hobby, mainly because I always get to learn new things and read about other team members experiences, Thank you so much for sharing and I’ll let you / the team know how well the aluminum ones hold up after a few of those bad landing (I'm really good at that) it’s sticking the landing that I’ve got the problem with..

Thanks again for your time and your comments..

Have a great one.

Shaun.

serum... the integy knuckles i used allowed me to tighten the pillow balls down all the way(using plastic ball retainers) i just did not appreciate the machining and the sloppiness of the area inside the pivot ball area. the machining created many burs and the pivot balls did not spin smoothly inside their housings. also the pivot retainers would often loosen quickly. i am using the stock hubs until i can upgrade to rd racing or rpm but the problem seems to be fixed.

Shaun,

I've read thru the thread but somehow I missed out the part you've used to mount the 3905 transmission. Is that a customer made alu mount or is it something you can buy. I have a center diff with my gmaxx (old version) but I am planning for the worst in case i ruin it or something. I just dont see the slipperential on the rc-monster store. Also I dont like the setup since the motor is only on one side and unbalanced..

THanks,

Jeff

FLM sell a mounting adaptor that allows the 3905 tranny to be mounted on the FLM 3906 chassis- and the Gmaxx chassis with a little modification. You can contact Mike or FLM directly to get one, $17 + shipping.

Im still hoping Mike will come through with a central motormount/diff arrangement for the Gorilla chassis myself.....

Thanks at least I'll have this option :)

Yeah hope Mike would release the new slipperential with center motor mount.

BTW, great truck Shaun

Good evening Jeff,
Here check out this thread, it outlines for you the process you'll need to go through in order for you to do your conversion.

You will also need to perform the shortening of the output shaft if you are going to install the 3905 Trans. Here is that thread as well..

Hope that information helps??.

Thanks for your time and have a great week Jeff.
