My new conversion E-MBX5
 

I am just in the making of another conversion. I got a MBX5-roller for a really nice price.
I just finished the batteryholder ( i was about to order one from Mike but it was out of stock) Then i tried to make one myself..... its not that bad really.

I am making a mount for the esc and bec soon.... then it is ready to race.....

look nice....:mdr:very big wire on this cell:surprised:this is a clean and fit swap.

Its 8awg wires :rofl: they are thick!

This is great to place the ESC and the BEC and very simple to make, i use: aluminium-plate and posts from the fueltank with some screws and washers..... it makes the wiring so much easier.

I just put up a short vid on "the tube"... the first testrun, no body..... E-MBX5 Video

It is a Feigao 8XL..... i really like it, lots of torqe to nice price....

I like that customplate, but i think it is about 10mm to short on the back end, i want space to place both ESC and BEC next to each other....

What motor to use?
 

I am thinking of one of these in my E-MBX5 prospec:
-Neu 1512 2d/f (2600kv)
-Neu 1512 2.5d/f (2050kv)
-Mega Motor ACn22/35/1E (2550kv)

I will be running it with Polyquest 4S 5000mah PQ, Monster max.....
I am intrerested in Mega motor, but they are very exposed and "open". .... is there a fix to this? It would be nice with 6-poles :yipi: Or is the Neu in a class of its own?

I am currently using Mamba Max, CC BEC, Feigao 8XL, Polyquest 4S 5000mah PQ

what did you make the battery holder out of?

Hi, i made the tray out of a plastic cutting board that was 13mm thick. Works great. I have now tested the car, it runs great.
On monday i will finally try it out on a track..... the summer is late this year to the norhtern part of Sweden and no tracks are open nearby untill monday..... then it is time to really put the E-MBX5 to the test! :party:
I have a Monster Max order pending from Mike...... I will also buy a new motor, but have not decided if i shold go for a 1512 2d/f or a 1512 2.5d/f..... time will tell....

I just put my E-MBX5 to the test... it ran very nice, no heat issues, app 22-25 minutes of runtime. However, efter some testing i was about to clean the car..... the i saw this:

The batterytray broke..... not a big deal, i went to the garage and started on fixing a new tray....

Now its just to put som velcro, straps and maybe some stickers on it and im ready to go..... no additional holes where made i only used the ones that was on the chassie originally

I have to do something as i am waiting for the MBX6 to arrive.... so what can i do......
I just put some Big Bore shocks on my Mugen, it went ok. Not a perfect fit but close. I hade to shim the upper mounts abount 2mm and use some force on the lower mounts.... but finally i got them to fit

I am worried about your new battery tray...
I managed to snap a piece of welded aluminum on my battery tray. I am concerned that all 4 sides are just folded up, perhaps you could epoxy/jb weld them together? (I am just thinking a closed box would be stronger). Perhaps I am overly cautious, but that looks like a heavy battery... if the outside wall of the box bends down that is would be a large dangerous flying object.

Kydex would would work great for your tray . Ask around from people here who have used it. Mikes tray works very well also & it a good price for what you get .

The only trouble I've seen with the folded aluminum trays is that if you get any stress cracking at the bend, that joint is weakened and can be prone to snapping.

Also, different types of aluminum are better than others. For workability, I usually use 6061-T6 from onlinemetals.com. Thicknesses around 1.5mm (~1/16") work well. I tried some 6061-T6 from Tower and it stress cracked badly no matter what I did, so I'd stay away from that stuff.

Right before bending, I usually heat up the metal to over 200*F. The bend seems to be less prone to cracking. It also helps to increase the bend radius a little. So, instead of a really sharp 90* corner, it's more like a 90* small arc. Since I use a vice and hammer to do my bending, I cut a piece of steel and rounded off the edge as the "bending plate". This makes the aluminum bend a little more gently.

Mike got my order this morning for two custom trays. Once they come in I have a small amount of modifications to do to the mudgaurds and they should fit better then my homemade ones (and hopefully more druable).

I have raced with that tray several times now, never had a problem with it, before this one i had one made in plastic, it broke instantly..... I am not worried at all for my tray, both my 4S Polyquest batteries are about 500 grams....

I will get one from Mike but not right now, the shipping cost is allmost the same as the tray so i´ll wait untill i get some more stuff to order......

Right now i´m just waiting for the rain to stop but i will probably have to wait some time before i get to try my new shocks :(

That's a great project you have going there, I'm happy for you its' complete and running, those big bore shocks look great!! ( I bet it handles much better now).. Where do you live that the shipping is the same at the cost of the tray??

Thanks for the kind words, i live in Sweden (Not Schweiz :lol:). The little i have tried, it seems to be smother with the new shocks, but i wount know for sure untill i can try it on a track..... bummer, it is still raining... last week we had +25 (centigrade) every day.... and now... only rain and allot colder (about +15). What kind of summer is this :diablo:
