China summary -

Factory adding capacity every day. By end of June factory should be at double April capacity.

Worked through several issues with 1515 rotor assembly and balancing. 1515 nearing production, but still some issues to work out with getting consistent quality on magnets.

1515 motors dyno'd very well, Kv at 2150 RPM / V. Ran several batteries on Emaxx with 1515/1Y (6S setup.) Found motor requires cool down between each run, maximum motor temp was around 85 degrees centigrade (29 degrees ambient) This was a VERY heavy setup with 10AH 6S battery.

Local food -- really good fish called "skinless cow fish" (direct translation) Anybody know the English translation? Ate way too much Dim Sum...

A cool down between runs isn't bad considering you were running 6S on it. I couldn't imagine being able to keep a vehicle in one piece running 6S on a 1515/1Yish for an entire battery pack, let alone multiple packs.

Oops - Cowfish seem to be an endangered animal!

I think we will need someone who is Cantonese to give us an idea of what kind of fish... it doesn't translate to English.

So i am not good enough for you?

ogrfre01 05.09.2008 02:25 AM

Patric: Are you only planning on producing 1515-size motors, not any 1512-size?

1515 motors are coming first with 1512 length coming afterwards.

ogrfre01 05.09.2008 03:36 AM

Ok, so 1512-size is also planned, it is just comming later?

Yep! 1515/1Y will be the first, with Kv of about 2200
Second will be the 1512/1Y with a Kv of about 2650

(dang jet lag! Go to sleep at 11:00pm, wake up at 2:00am wide awake!)

China

Hey patric what part of China were you in? I got to visit Beijing two years ago and we did all of the touristy things, like the Square, the forbidden city, and the Great Wall. Great vacation and good food. The HardRock was a little disapointing though. Sounds like good news with the production of the motors, so when do you think they might be in stock for purchase? Summer is almost here.

Ok, thanks for the reply, that is what i was hoping for..... i probably want a 1512-sized motor, however i would like for it to be around 2000 Kv as i am driving on 4 cells..... but i guess there will be a couple of Kv-choises later on. I commend you (CC) on your work!

Hi Jerry!

Was in the Zhongshan, in the Guandong region. Real near Hong Kong (about a 2 hour boat ride from HK.)

Food is always good... but it was HOT in China already!

Hmm? I read the 1515/1Y (2200kv) would be first with a 1512/1Y (2750kv) would come afterwards. Am I incorrect? Thanks!

Oh man, I was tired and totally out of it...

First available is 1515/1Y at 2200Kv
Second will be the 1512/1Y at 2650Kv

Sorry!!!!!

Arct1k 05.09.2008 01:25 PM

Funny I was just writing that I think you got the winds wrong :)

Jet lag is so much fun!

Patrick,

Will you be doing custom motors as per client's specs?

Different types. Not like the Neus.

I don't know what you mean then. What types?

sleebus.jones 05.09.2008 02:21 PM

Hmmmmm. Where's that 1750Kv motor?

If I design a motor and run the idea by you, will you be able to do it.

Possible -- but it costs about $100K to tool for motor production -- so if it's just a 1-off, I'd have to say no.

BrianG 05.09.2008 02:57 PM

That would be one expensive motor! Maybe get two or three motors done to reduce costs to a paltry $50k to $33k each.

lutach 05.09.2008 03:19 PM

Tell me about it . I was thinking more of the lines of a few thousands, but I'll just wait to see what the other places will come up with. I'm talking with a few manufacturers, but the delay is driving me nuts.

Well, if it's a viable motor for commercial production, we'll take care of the NREs... :)

I'll contact the other companies I have asked to do the motors and will see what they say. If they won't be able to do it, I'll send you all the information about the motors.
