what's everyone's battery connector of choice?
I'm guessing deans ultra plugs. What do you guys use?

Deans for battery to esc, and either 4mm bullets or hard wiring from the motor to esc. On higher power setups I like to hard wire, one less thing to go wrong.
Mention was made about cleaning deans connectors from time to time, any suggestions on how to do this? |
I use deans for battery-ESC connections and 5.5mm bullet plugs for motor-ESC connections.
|
i use traxxas plugs, deans are to small and a pain in the a55 imo
|
If you're going to be pulling 100+ amps, some 5.5mm, 6.0mm, 6.5mm plugs would be awesome.... but my favourite are still Deans..
All of my Lipos use 6.0mm, and deans for all the NiMH batteries.... |

I was wondering about this too. I use a little wire brush and simple green on the male end. To afraid to touch the female ones on the lipos though. Any suggestions? |
Deans plugs
|
I'm using Deans plugs also.
|
5.5 bullet everywhere:wink:
|
5.5's and 4.0's to the motor and deans for the battery
|
I use a combination of Deans/5.5mm bullets for battery to ESC and 5.5mm to the motor in my BPP. The others are just Deans on the batteries and 4mm and 3.5mm bullets on the motor.
|
man alot of deans, those things are a pain in the a55 imo, to small for my meaty fingers lol
|
Depends on the current. Deans for anything that's going to draw ~30A continuous/100+A peak. For higher currents, either direct solder or 5.5/6mm bullet connectors.
The bad thing about bullets is that they are harder to "key" to prevent misplugging. And even if you do alternate the male/female ends, the battery side connectors can accidentally short on something when disconnected. Deans really should make a larger connector. Make it the same way, just a little heftier and a little longer to make it easier to grip. |

How about some type of specialty contact cleaner:

I was die hard deans, but have really liked the traxxas connectors better now. I prefer bullets for ESC to motor though.
|
5.5mm bullets for all my batteries. Deans are too small for my stubby fingers too, but the traxxas connectors just look abit cheap and bulky, like tamiya connectors, even if they are rated the same as deans. Im hoping there will be some more developments on the bullet connector housing front.

Deans for now until i get the MMM.
One thing i do to keep dirt and maybe even water out is to shrink tube (3-4" long)the two deans connectors together then neatly with a razor cut the shrink wrap around the base(wire side) of the female plug. This also helps the big finger guys by having the shrink wrap 1" down the wire on both sides for something to grab to separate the plugs. Here is a picture to help, motors and esc were done this way. |
I use all Powerpoles.
|
power poles for me too ... except on the 1/18th and smaller stuff

Have you guys seen castles 6.5mm plugs yet?... RCmarketplace sells some 45 Amp power poles... |
+1 +1 +1 to 5.5mm bullets!!!
|
Right now Deans on everything except esc to motor where I'm using 3.5 bullets on 18th scale and 4mm on rest. I've just bought 5.5s so those will go on anything I build next, repair or modify.

Powerpoles.
