MMM BEC CHANGEABLE TO 6v or 7v

Ok..........after much debate about this, here's the deal...If you would like a higher BEC voltage we can make this happen.

This is what it will take to make it happen...
1. you pay the shipping to us
2. It will cost you a fee of $25 and then we will ship it back to you on our dollar. ( Ground only, if you want overnight or something you will have to pay for that)
3. We will update it to 6v or 7v, nothing else.

Warning: There were reasons for us setting the voltage where it is. Obviously we believe that 5.5v is the best for the controller. Changing this voltage could affect the range of the controller. If you decide you don't like it and want it changed back, you will be charged again to do it.

So basically.....we want to take care of those people that feel they need the different voltage, but we will not recommend this. So make sure its something you really want to do.

Probably just a replacement/addition of feedback voltage divider resistors or something like that.

Someone should do this and take pictures of the PCB before and after. Then post a how-to...

Or, just disable the BEC and use a CCBEC like the old days. Aside from the added wiring inconvenience, a CCBEC would be about the same cost as the service. :smile:

It would be interesting though if you could order them up directly as 6v...

Or you could just buy a cc bec.....

Brian - My though was simply this must be a simple fix if cc are only charing $25 inc handling, fixing, testing and shipping. My hyposthesis is that this is simple component change on the "brain" board rather than on the fets hence we could get a nice how to... Hopefully it is a $1 part from radioshack...

Also if there is enough interest I don't see why CC couldn't do a limited run of 6v from CC MMM for us...

I appreciate a lot of people have a BEC already and can pick one up for 21 shipped and hence "cheaper" to go that route however adds cables and complexity - there are a lot of neat freaks here :)

I would like a 6v version if there was one. I'm a little disappointed with the 5.5. I haven't even gotten mine yet, and I'll have to send it in. Was this done so it would work with low-budget AM radios? That's what it sounds like to me.

I'm kinda surprised that 0.5v would make that much of a difference? I think the CCBEC is a much better solution than sending it in, or having different versions. Different versions = more inventory = more cost to the end user. Keeping your inventory limited is key to low costs.

First ive heard of it.. I thought they said it would have a CCBEC built in, so you could program the voltage just the same? what ever happened to that plan?

I'm sure there mustve been some problem for them not to do it, but where lies the difficulty of integrating it? might make it a little bigger i guess...

I'm sure that having the different options (sending in for re-tooling, ccbec, sticking with 5.5v) will be best for the users. There's no "best" option. It just depends on a users application. Having it built in seems to be the "best" option, but then you have space issues. I think this should work for everyone. Personally, I'll probably stick with 5.5 or use a CCBEC.

if you have a steering servo that has at least 200oz/in 5.5v will be plenty

330oz on 6v in a buggy should be enough on 5.5

Slightly off-topic, but a $1 part from RS is a $0.10 part anywhere else! RS isn't good for anything but cellphones anymore (:cry:), IMO, and their phones are too expensive as well! :lol:

WHAT I am really disappointed in this. I thought that the MMM was supposed to have a CCbec built in. So if that was the case it was supposed to have a out voltage adjustable in the firmware and have a range of 4.5v all the way to 9v. I run my truck on 6.1v and has worked great. Bummer.

That is definitely true, but $1 plus applicable tax is still better than $0.10 and $5 shipping. :wink:

Bummer, I too was hoping that the BEC was electronically adjustable.

My servos are of the brushless type & much prefer to run on 6v. When I plug a 6v pack directly into the rx the wheels turn sitting on the grass, but, not when it's drawing power through the MMM.

I'd prefer the 6v upgrade, but, will they bare the brunt of the international shipping for a problem they should've addressed in the first instance??

Since shipping costs are kinda high, not to mention doing the mod itself, why not just use a Castle UBEC? Cheaper, highly programmable, and handles higher currents. The only downside would be the added wiring...
