The wife will be buying me one of the Tamiya kits for my birthday. :yipi:

On RCZone they say the Kyosho uses a worm gear drive. If that's true, it will have unbelievable torque and holding power (since the main gear can't spin the worm gear, no coasting either). Should be an interesting gearbox:smile:

Few years ago I remember people giving Crawlers crap as they were slow and boring, they really seem to be taking off now

DRIFT_BUGGY 07.11.2008 05:42 PM

Another body from Tamiya. Still no news on the Kyosho

Meet the Rock Force 2.2. Now anyone can discover what rock crawling is all about.

Starting with a worm-gear axle, the Rock Force 2.2 is packed with features such as special crawler motor and speed control amp. Incredible performance and design with options for disconnecting the rear drive (requires 3-channel R/C system), brings the fascination of rock crawling to everyone. Switch between drive, free and lock for user-friendly operation of various driving techniques.

Recommended as the best introduction to rock crawling, and for those who want to use this as the base machine to modify as far as desired.

The Kyosho 2.2 looks pretty nice! Aren't the bottom few pics the Kyosho super class crawler though?

Edit: Whoops i just realized that those were the prototype pics from last years Tokyo show.

Looking at those prices, these trucks are significantly cheaper here in Japan. I like both of them but I almost bought the Tamiya Land cruiser last weekend.

RC411 have a review on the Tamiya kit on their site

They sell between $270-$300 here which is significantly lower than Tower's $354 price. I think I will buy a set or 2. I should have never sold my emaxx ESC :no:.

Looks like the Rock Force 2.2 is out in Japan. Can't wait to get one. Check out the movies.

actually a worm gear can back drive.....iv done it:wink:

but oyur right on a rig like this, you can do some precision driving. But i really hope the casing is tough! cuz worm gears are rough on housing

TexasSP 10.06.2008 01:10 PM

That kyosho model is nice, would like to see a price though. Hopefully it won't be typical kyosho and cost a ridiculous amount of money though.

Mike_D 11.26.2008 10:03 PM

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up. Amain has the Rock Force in stock and i don't think it's that bad of a price. And they have a 10% off deal right now.

I have a design for the axial crawler to use worm drive. I was going to use steel for the tubes and center section, mainly cause I can weld (and have a $1700 welder) plus they will be very sturdy, can be made more compact, and the weight is where crawlers need it, low. Also the steel parts should hold together better under the load of the worm. I will need some big bearings, and plan to offset the gears to alow for better servo mounting. Plan to use stock axial c hubs and knuckles. Axles may be custom, or I will integrate some sort of existing cvd axle.

DRIFT_BUGGY 11.27.2008 12:32 AM

Damn, since the Australia dollar is down to 64cents, im going to have to skip the rock force for now :whip:
