So Cal Race for Brushless 1/8th scale conversions

Ok guys, it's time to show off your rides. Let's rally to the next J.B.R.L. race in Ontario, Ca. to show them all what we've got.

I have made arrangements with race director Jimmy Babcock for an epic event. This round will be at Revalation Raceway and this is normally an 1/8th scale track. It will defiantly be ready to accommodate our fast rides. We will be running in a DEMO class so as normal rules will not apply to us. We will be running 5 minute qualifiers and 10 or 15 minute mains (to be determined by the schedule). Two qualifiers will give us a chance to give the spectators quite a show.

Please come and show your support to our emerging race class if you can!

Thanks,
Zac

Sounds awesome! And that's actually on a day where I could make it... I've driven electric 1/8 on that track a number of times, with great success . Just gotta work on my ability to set up suspension (or ask for help!).

Who else is in?

jnev 05.23.2008 01:28 AM

So where would a Revo or CRT.5 fit in? Could I run the CRT.5 with the truggies? Would "Modified truck" be considered for MT's?

marzac2 05.23.2008 01:40 AM

MetalMan; There will be 4 of us from SD and about 4-5 guys from the Thunder Alley track with brushless conversions.

Jnev;I'm not able to tell you about the other classes other than the Demo race I am arranging. It will be filled with 1/8th scale brushless conversions buggys/truggys.

However Jimmy Babcock is a very open minded guy and I'm sure he can accomidate you some how. Maybe you could run with us in our demo class, but it could be tough to keep up. Some of the guys from Thunder Alley are pretty fast.

jnev 05.23.2008 01:46 AM

Yah, I know what you mean. Especially, since the only rc I have driven on the track was my 1/8 scale buggy that I sold a while back... so I don't know how competitive I could really get. Oh well, maybe next time once I finally pick up a truggy or buggy... Please don't forget to get some pictures of all the BL rc's out there. Have fun!!

TDC57 05.23.2008 04:00 AM

Well I've never driven on a track yet, but if i can bring my GR3 E-Revo I'm in..

Thanks..

Shaun.

rschoi_75 05.23.2008 11:32 AM

Shoot... I won't be here June 1st... Sounds like a lot of fun. Tear'em up guys.

marzac2 05.23.2008 07:56 PM

I think everyone should just show up. Doesn't matter if your a competitive driver or not. It will be more a chance to show off the power of these 1/8th scale monsters than anything else.

BP-Revo 05.23.2008 08:35 PM

Well, I guess you can count me in. Care to carpool MetalMan?

Edit: Though now I think of it I'm not sure if I have enough batteries to run the G2R...I only have 1 set...If only I had the Monster Max and the 3S FlightPower pair I ordered...then I'd have 2 sets of 5S...stupid backorders...

That is the day we were planning to go to Rev anyways . Good to know now that it wasn't going to be open practice as per their regular schedule! Carpooling is totally fine with me. No point in taking two separate cars when one will suffice!

MetalMan 05.31.2008 12:27 PM

Who is getting excited for this race? I know I am! My buggy is about 98% done, at this point I just have minor securing of wires and what-not, and suspension tuning.

azjc 05.31.2008 01:01 PM

there is no need to car pool with gas as cheap as it is.......:-0

marzac2 05.31.2008 06:36 PM

Gas is soo cheap, I'm watering my lawn with it now.

And I switched to liquid gold in my cars tank... Cheaper!

MetalMan 06.01.2008 02:11 AM

At least we'll be driving early on Sunday morning when nobody else is awake  :sarcastic:.

My stuff has just been finished being packed up, and I am gonna go to sleep now. Not looking forward to waking up at 5:30am, but I hope to see you all there tomorrow!

jnev 06.02.2008 01:51 AM

So how was the race?? Pics? Video? Something? :mdr:

MetalMan 06.02.2008 06:37 PM

It was a lot of fun! We didn't get any video footage or anything like that (that I'm aware of anyway). There were a total of eight electric 1/8 on the track, four of which were Tekno buggies (marzac, riceman, Matthew Armeni, and teknorc, all members of this forum), two other buggies owned by guys whose names unfortunately I did not remember, a truggy that some guy borrowed off of one of the guys whose name I don't remember, and my buggy.

The guy who drove the truggy won by a decent margin. But he had a clear advantage over our buggies in the whoops section at the front straight-away as he could easily fly through it (for some of us, including myself, our buggies would occasionally catch air and flip around because of the whoops).

In the first qualifier, marzac got first place beating me in second by 12sec. Then came Dan from teknorc in third, only 5sec. behind. My memory cannot recall the placement of the other drivers (we were all tired, after not sleeping much from waking up so early). In the second qualifier, my switch turned off about 10sec. into the first lap. In this round, the truggy came in and got first, followed by marzac, teknorc, myself, and again my memory doesn't recall the rest. I'm pretty sure we finished in the same placement in the 10min. main, except one of the other guys beat me and I got 5th. My decreased performance was definitely due to an increase in start power and switching my throttle curve from exponential to logarithmic.

We are all definitely going to be meeting up again for another 1/8 electric race, but the location I do not know as of now. But the new ARC track sounds like it will be a great place to meet up.

jnev 06.02.2008 07:03 PM

Sounds like a killer time. Please do let me know where/when the next race is. I really do want finally start racing or even try racing...

Matthew_Armeni 06.02.2008 07:57 PM

My wife got some video with ricemans camera so he should have it up sometime this week. I had to check out before the main but I heard it was a good showing. Can't wait until next time!

MetalMan 06.02.2008 09:13 PM

Oh, awesome! Didn't realize there was a camera floating around.

Matthew_Armeni 06.07.2008 06:43 PM

Here's some pics of us marshalling, not the most exciting thing I know but don't worry, riceman's video editing is almost done, it should be up soon.

Heh, there I am in the 2nd pic next to cone #8. Funny I was posing for the camera without knowing it!

jnev 06.07.2008 11:54 PM

That looks like such a fun track. Those jumps look huge from the pictures... they look as big as the one at the RCM bash last year. Looking froward to the video.

Hey man, you are posing like you knew the picture was being taken.

Looking forward to the video.

riceman 06.08.2008 01:05 PM

It was a blast. It was great meeting up with everyone and running together. I do have some video that I'll get posted up this week. In the meantime there are some great photos on the JBRL site. I've weeded out all of the 1/8th stuff in the next few posts. But the photography is great. You should go there and check out the 1/10th pics.

MetalMan 06.08.2008 11:11 PM

Man, that guy knows how to shoot pics of moving objects...

riceman 06.10.2008 08:29 PM

Video is up.

MetalMan 06.10.2008 09:33 PM

Good video, but bad YouTube. Between the two blue buggies with yellow wings, I couldn't tell which one was mine and which one wasn't. But for everyone else, you can still see how awesome it was :surprised:.

jnev 06.11.2008 01:47 AM

That track just looks way too fun! In a way, I really want to build a 1/8 buggy, but another part of me tells me that it will rarely see the track and to build a basher instead....

Anyway you can upload the pictures of member's buggies again riceman please? They don't seem to be working on the previous page.

MTBikerTim 06.11.2008 02:22 AM

Those are some serious jumps on that track. I don't think I have seen a track with bigger jumps. Looks awesome though, I can't wait to get my savage sorted and some mney saved so I can build a buggy.

The jumps at Revelation are pretty insane (and infamous). The layout before this one was brutal. If you missed a landing, chances were you broke something. During the day of racing, it was shocking to see the 1/10 cars breaking like twigs when they wanted to get fresh with the jumps :).

This time out though, we all did real well and had an awesome time. We are planning on being at the next, next JBRL race in Hemet or Thunder Alley in SoCal. If anyone else can make it, please do, it's a blast!

jnev 06.11.2008 02:49 AM

I may be able to make it to the one in Hemet... its only about 40 - 45 minutes away from me. Please do post a thread once you know exactly when and where it is. I'd really liek to start practicing at some tracks...

MetalMan 06.11.2008 12:16 PM

Yeah, please do. I'd love to race in an 1/8 electric-only class again!
