Does the RCM Batt. Tray come with hold down straps?

Dafni 05.23.2008 06:31 AM

Yes, the RCM batt tray comes with velcro straps.

Your list looks good, TDC57, but how about an extra pinion or two? Nice to have some tuning range.

Don't forget the new alu steering plate :) Kinda sucks to buy a "luxury" kit and then having to buy all the upgrades separately, eh?

Daf

A winning Lotto ticket!

Mister-T 05.23.2008 01:44 PM

Honestly you don't need the aluminium option, there were made because hardcore nitro guys can't live without aluminium.
Xray plastic and composite material are top quality, there are made to make the buggy work properly. Plus staying on plastic will save you money and weight.
Xray are not like some other car brand ... there are made to be competion winner out of the box. (this is not an ads for xray is swear )

P.S.
I plan on using all of the parts I pull off my 808 on my XB8

jhautz 06.09.2008 07:42 PM

Will all of that 808 stuff fit the XB8TQ? In my understanding most of the parts are not interchangable. At least not the suspension ones.

Just curious why you felt the need other than just wanting it to buy all of those upgrade parts. I did it on my last xray and wound up wishing I saved the cash. The stock parts are tough. I have been whipping my 808 for 5 weeks+ now and its just keeps on ticken. Its bone stock (except for the brushless conversion) and I seriuosly havent broken a single thing. I was a little worried about the CF shock towers, but they have withstood some bad crashes and buggy to buggy impacts with no problems. I vowed on this xray I wasnt going to buy a single upgrade for it untill I found a limitation with the stock setup. I'm still looking.

On the flip side... make sure you post some pictures of that blinged out beast. :mdr:

TDC57 06.10.2008 01:25 AM

Morning jhautz.
I really don’t know what will or what wont work on the XB8TQ but I’ll find out by end of the week!. I also ordered up / won off ebay the complete front and rear ends for an 808 so I’ve got spares or maybe I’ll get creative this weekend and install the complete 808 suspension on it?? TBD..

Well I sold one of my builds and suddenly had extra play money lying around and wanted to trick out my first buggy. I’ve never owned one and had no idea on the XRay reliability would be so it seamed like the right / fun thing to do. Sure I could have saved myself almost 500 but what the fun in that!.. It is reassuring to hear that you getting your moneys worth out of yours and it still going strong after 5 weeks of bashing.. I haven’t seen any of your post on it since the 808 thread weeks ago so I wasn’t sure..

I will post some picks of the Bling!!.. I'm also very curious to see how much more it will weigh once it’s all on the buggy. (HHmmmm???) time will tell..

Have a great one jhautz..

I was looking through your original list of options parts, and noticed one item you should update. The 355100 Active Diff is for the original XB8 to the EC, but not for the 808. The part number you want for the 808 Active Diff is 355102. This system will include the correct 43T ring gear and shorter outdrives for the 808. You could convert ta 355100 to work with the 808, but you will need the 355143 ring gear and 808 specific Active Diff outdrives (I will have to get the part number at work tomorrow). The cost of those pieces would not make a conversion justifiable, unless you have an Active Diff already.

The 352303 and 353303 offer some added adjustability to the suspension, but if you are just starting out, you may want to leave the stock pieces until you get comfortable with the car and are ready to tweak the setup to your driving. The optional plates do look fantastic, and they are a bit easier to deal with when you want to service the diffs. If you install them, you may just want to start with the equivalent to stock geometry unless you feel the setup needs some work. The same holds true for the steering plate, 252573. The stock plate is quite durable, so your main benefit would be to fine tune the aggressiveness of the steering. XRAY tried to simplify the stock pieces so that the setup was not overwhelming to most users. Durability of the stock parts is great, as many have commented on, and most of the options add some added tuning benefit(hinge pin holders, chassis braces, etc.). Having said that, man do the aluminum caster blocks look trick! I didn't plan to use them for mine, but after seeing the press release photos for them, I may have to get a set just for appearance! They are one of the coolest 'looking' options XRAY had produced!

As many 808 drivers have shared with us, only a couple of spring sets and oil weights to adjust the shock and diff package is all that is necessary to get the car close for most drivers and track conditions. Tires and the shock package are probably the most critical "option" pieces to get your car dialed in. When you start to fine tune the setup, these option pieces give you an added range of adjustment. I am a sucker for options, so I will probably add many of those same pieces to my conversion too, but my 808 is a much better car than I am a driver in its stock form!

Just saw this thread. Wow you really didn't need all those hop-ups. My 777 needed them. In my experience, the aluminum chassis braces are too stiff unless you are on an indoor clay track. Keep the aluminum towers and ackerman plate as backups. The only hop-ups I put on mine were the carbon fiber center diff plate and carbon fiber front upper brace (steering brace). Oh yea I forgot that I put on the Losi lexan rear arm "mud flaps"...lol!

The one thing I highly recommend to all 808 owners is switching out the sway bars; they are way too stiff in my opinion. I went with 2.2 front and 2.4 rear and it feels awesome now.

Enjoy it as it is a really fun buggy to drive!

Backfire 06.12.2008 06:31 PM

TDC57,

I checked on that part number for the 808 Active Diff outdrives, it is 355161 for the pair. You would need that and the 355143 gear if you want to convert the original 355100 Active diff to work with the 808.

Hay Bachfire..
Thanks so much for the information. I’ll send out an email to the supplier and ensure that I get the proper parts.. (Thanks!!!)..

I saw the same Alum caster blocks (they do look trick!!) they are 39.99 each, but none are in stock. (I checked!).. :eyes:

I understand what you saying about the Alum parts and appreciate the advise, I actually received them today and drove my 808 at the track for a good hour. I was extremely impressed with the 808 durability and it performance is outstanding, it goes rite where you point it.

So now I'm left with the dilemma, do open my nice new shinny bling parts and install them or do I first get used to my buggy, learn it’s limits and then start to improve on them and my driving skills???? (TBD)..

Thanks for your time Bryan.

Have a great one..

Shaun.

What's up Pumpkinfish (like the name!).
Yea I know, I know I don’t need all of those hop-ups parts, like many guys don’t need the blue pill either but they get it!..:yipi:

As luck would have it the track that I'm running it at is a indoor clay track so see some of that bling will actually help... I actually haven’t decided to take apart my perfectly good running / driving buggy “to weigh it down & pretty it up” but if do that get that wild hair up my a$$ them I'm at least prepared for it..

I am going to order the referenced sway bars above (thanks for the tip ) and I'm going with one size heavy spring (light blue??) the reason being the bottom kept hitting the ground every time it landed off any size jump. We’ll see..

Thanks for the comments PF and have a great one..

Shaun.

Today was a green light day at my house, look what the mail brought me.

My Neu 1512 2.Ds

My long sought after “Bling” for my 808 (I'm still some parts missing) but I received about 80% of the overall order.

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3060.jpg

My E-Bay find!, I’ve got front & rear suspension and drive train along with all steering components. Now I can just about break anything on my 808 and I’ll have a replacement part for it… (Yes!).. some parts missing from photo, box 2, tomorrow?.

Thanks for your time and have a great day.

Shaun,

If you are bottoming out try changing the pack of your shocks first. What setup did you use? If you go to RCTech, Rocco a factory Xray driver can give you some great pointers on the 808. Fortunately for me, he posted a starting setup for his local track which matches my local track description.

One thing I can say about the 808 is that is very sensitive to changes. I was practicing last night and played with a few things. Every time I made a change, it was very noticeable on the track the very next lap. I lowered the rear inner camber link to the lowest hole and wow was it a completely different car. I also put a thicker rear diff fluid in and the car was almost undriveable. I think for this car going with anything in the range of 1k-2k is the ticket. I am still playing with the front and center diff fluids. Also, I raised my ride height slightly and it was drastic. I found at my track that a high ride height is not a good a thing. I would set the ride height no higher than arms level and even that might be too high.

-John

TDC57 06.15.2008 04:22 AM

Hay John..
I'm using the “recommended” 1.5 in the front and 1.3 in the rears, rebound set at 50% on both front and rear shocks, oil is 600cST in the front and 350cST in the rear, this is the oil that came in the kit. My gut says put in 50 in the fronts and 40 in the rears?? But for now this I’ve got.

It’s interesting with what your saying regarding diff oils, I’ve read several of the x-ray threads, asked around and decided on originally going with the 7000 in the fronts and 3000 in the rear, most of the threads are recommending a 5k & 5k approach, but yet you’ve had luck with a 1k – 2k??, I was going to redo them with 5k&5k but should I now consider 2k-1k as another option??. I'm running a track that’s clay, the average lap time is 28sec, I’ve got a 1512 2d, mgm 12012 and PQ 4s 30C 4500mAH, I’ll be turning some rpm’s so don’t I want / need thicker oil?.

The height is another tec issue I'm actually looking forward to learning about, believe it or not I'm actually look at picking up a Hudy 1/8th off-road set-up system with droop blocks, gauges, set-up board, etc. I'm thinking that all of this crap should get me setup correctly!!. And now that I’ve got the XB8 I’ve got two buggy’s that I can useon it. Yeah that helps me justify the new purchase / not to feel guilty :yipi:

I'm planning on striping this thing down in about two month 10 /15 days at the track (if it last that long without breaking?), to check everything, change oils, and others goodies But until that happens I was thinking of going up one size on the springs and changing oil weights, maybe going to a 1.4 in the front and keeping a 1.3 in the rear?? To many dam things to things to thing about.. Maybe I should just concentrate on my driving for now..

Have a great weekend John and thanks so much for your time.

Shaun.

TDC57 06.15.2008 04:24 AM

We’ll some more parts came today (yes!) My remaining suspension, rear wing and complete replacement screws.

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3073.jpg

I also received my new bad boy Lipo’s…. (2) PolyQuest enerland 30C 4500mAH. I'm really stocked about these lipo’s I'm hoping that the 30C will actually make a difference!, all of my Lipo’s are all 20C (3s & 5s) and with my new 1512 2d (which will draw!!) but at the same time the 4500mAH should still provide me with 20+ minutes of on demand power / track time?, I'm hoping I just might have a winning combination

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3074.jpg

I'm just missing my MGM 12012 and I’ll be good to go..

Thanks for your time and have weekend team..

Man, as long as you can hold up you'll be driving all day! Should your buggy let you down at any point, you'll have whatever you need to get it going again...

That's the point and the good news to date is I've spent just under $300.00 and if (if mind you!) I was to entertain the idea of building them all into a new working 808 I believe the total cost will be under $500.00. but for that to happen I need (3) diffs a chassis & body and all drive lines, another $200.00 dollars.

Regardless I'm quite fortunate to have spares and that I don’t give a rat’s a$$ attitude what happens to it at the track. Luckily for me it’s been a total champ and shows no signs of wear.

Just an update after my weekend. I was using Rocco's (Team driver over at RCTech) suggested starting setup and it was almost spot on. I ended up with 1k in the rear diff and a slightly higher ride height but was otherwise identical to his. The thing was as hooked up as could be for the extremely dusty conditions. I had one Mugen driver trying really hard to keep up in practice but kept looping it. I will say this thing doesn't need to be driven hard to go fast!

After work I will try to remember to post that suggested starting setup over here. With a newborn things get hectic quick!

wow it is so much fun spending money on your hobbie. better than so many other ways to spend it.lol
i used to buy all sorts of spares on my previous buggies but this 808 i didnt buy a single spare part and after a whole season nothing( i repeat) nothing broke. i had to change a few bearings and my ft diff housing took a huge hit and broke off the aligning pin so i changed that.( didnt know till i took it apart to clean) you have enough spares to open up a hoby store :-)
