what lipos are available with the teamcheckpoint charger?

my friend wants to finally switch over his emaxx into a brushless monster. so he has a teamcheckpoint charger and now needs a balancer and lipos. he wanted me to ask the forum for help as he only knows of one route which is the balancer made by teamcheckpoint and the lipo by teamcheckpoint. so is that the only lipo he can choose from? if you guys can take a look at his balancer..heres the link, its a wierd setup. instead of the standard plastic balancer adapters, it uses bullet plugs. we re very confused please help. thanks!

so how do you plug those lipos up to your esc. his esc uses dean plugs. does he need to solder them plugs onto the lipos...where? those trackpower and teamcheckpoint lipos look very different compared to other lipos.

and is he only limited to those certain lipos...like can he use those zippy's or the ones by truerc?

azjc 05.25.2008 04:32 PM

to connect the lipos to his ESC he would need to connecta male 4mm banana plug onto a pig tail with a Deans male

or buy this I use the came setup to charge my lipos from a Hyperion 0610i

he could use the others as long as the output jacks on the charger are 4mm banana jacks the balancer would plug into those jacks and you can also buy balancer adapters too

the True Rc lipos take a hyperion type and the Zippys are XH

this link has a table to what adapters will fit what companies packs

yea his charger output are 4mm banana plugs. lemme get this straight. so he buys a teamcheckpoint balancer:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXTSA5&P=ML
and then he buys an adapter according to the lipo he chooses to get. so the link you sent me those adapters will plug into the right side of the teamcheckpoint balancer? so all chargers uses the same lipo balancer harness but its just the lipo packs that has different plugs? if this is correct, does he charge the lipos after balancing or does that balancer charge at the same time. see thats whats confusing us. my hyperion 0606i charger has power leads and balancer so i can do both at the same time where as his charger uses one output for both the power and balancer.

in order to use those adapters he would need to buy a hyperion style balancer your builtin balancer in your your charger would work, but if your friend wants to buy the TCP balancer he could only use them on those packs, if he wants to be able to buy different styles of packs I would get the Hyperion LB10 balancer

He has this charger?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXPYT8&P=ML

If so, the Checkpoint balancer will plug right into it and a battery pack will plug directly into the balancer, nothing else needed. He'll only be able to charge 1 pack at a time like that though. I have a very similar setup, but use the Duratrax ICE charger and Trakpower V-Balancers:

blueb8llz 05.25.2008 06:24 PM

now thats what we're talking bout! thats exactly what we needed haha. now this makes more sense. just to double check: he buys that hyperion lb10 balancer, and that balancer charges and balances at the same time? and then he just buys the correct adapter depending on what lipos he decides. and the adapter plugs into the lb10 balancer.

yea i understand how that works now. the tcp and trakpwer balancer only works for those lipos with them plugs. if he wants the other plugs he will need the lb10 balancer by hyperion. i love your gold bricks!

One thing to know, is that those CP batts are NOT TrakPowers, there not as good

Last I read they were flight powers worst cells in them, it may of changed, but id say go for TrakPowers!

skellyo 05.25.2008 08:39 PM

The Checkpoint batts are just the lower end 16C 5400mAh version of the Trakpowers. For the price, the 4900's are a much better battery IMO.

blueb8llz 05.25.2008 10:52 PM

ok thanks for the heads up. ill let my friend know. but i think hes sorta on a budget right now. a little while ago, he told me he was just going to purchase the lba10 balancer with the HP-LB10-HP balance adapter and some truerc lipos. just to be totally sure, the lba10 balances and charges at the same time correct?
heres the link to the balancer:

25C 4900, vrs 5400 16C

you would easily have more runtime/power with the TrakPowers

skellyo 05.26.2008 07:34 AM

BOR: You can't just assume that everyone knows you mean 4900's when you say Trakpower these days. They have 7 different models of Trakpower packs now:

http://trakpower.com/index.asp?page=...s/products.asp

BlackedOutREVO 05.26.2008 03:05 PM

I said 25C 4900's, and were talking about 2s packs, so I dont see how anyone would get thrown off?

And in either way lol, TrakPowers would all probably out run the cp pack, low or high mah

skellyo 05.26.2008 03:17 PM

Agreed, the 2S 4900 Trakpowers are their best packs IMO.

BlackedOutREVO 05.26.2008 04:23 PM

I cant really say, I have only ran there 25C 4900's (own those) And ran my buddys B44 with there high mah saddle packs

blueb8llz 05.26.2008 06:39 PM

does any of you guys know if that lba10 balancer will charge and balance the lipo at the same time through the team checkpoint charger? or does he have to disconnect the lba10 and then charge the lipos? im asking this question to 3 other forums and noone seems to know.

BlackedOutREVO 05.26.2008 07:44 PM

IDK about that charger, but id imagine it would balance and charge at the same time

I use a Super Brain 989, with a V balancer, so I cant say

skellyo 05.26.2008 08:25 PM

The LBA10 needs a special harness for Trakpower Lipos. It can be purchased here:
http://www.allerc.com/product_info.php?products_id=3702

blueb8llz 05.27.2008 12:18 AM

thanks but hes not getting the trakpower lipos. hes gonna buy them truerc lipos

lincpimp 05.27.2008 12:31 AM

Ok, here we go. Let me know if I lose you on this!

The Checkpoint charger has 4mm bullet output. You can connect any charge-thru-balancer to that. Then connect the lipo to the balancer using the required harness.

I would suggest to use the lba10, as it can handle 10amps charge thru. Some balancer can only handle 2-3amps run thru them.

I think that true rc can equip their lipos with a hyperion balance plug. that way you can use the included adapters that come with the lba10 to connect it to the lipo. The balancer also has large gauge wire outputs. You solder a deans plug to them and plug the main lead of the lipo to them.

What happens during charging is that the large gauge wires from the charger go thru the balancer and charge the lipo. The smaller balancing wires are just hooked to the balancer to let it "see" what the individual cells in the lipo are doing. If one cell's voltage is too high, the balancer applies a small load to that cell in order to drain it down to match the other cells. That is what is called balancing the pack. The other benefit to a charge-thru-balancer is that it can stop the charge if any of the packs cells go over 4.2v. Plus you can balance the pack while you charge it, so it takes less time than charging the pack, then balancing the pack with a stand-alone balancer (astroflight blinky for example)

I always use a charge-thru-balancer while charging a lipo, it is the safest, and best way to charge a lipo. It gaurantees that overcharging will not occur, and helps keep the pack in balance while charging too.

blueb8llz 05.27.2008 06:03 PM

thanks lincpimp. you confirmed every question i had. ill tell my friend to buy the lba10. thanks everyone for helping us out on this!
