G3R Buildup Pics
Here are some pictures of the progress I have made so far. A guy on ebay was parting out a Revo Platinum and I ended up buying alot of parts from him. I plan on using the MMM combo in it once castle releases it. What oil and springs work well in a truck like this? All advise is greatly appreciated.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/raddeering/SDyv...0/P1040468.JPG I am currently using the smallest lunsford turnbuckle that my LHS stocked. I think that it might be a little too long. What should I be using here? http://lh3.ggpht.com/raddeering/SDyv...0/P1040469.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/raddeering/SDyv...0/P1040470.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/raddeering/SDyv...0/P1040474.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/raddeering/SDyv...0/P1040482.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/raddeering/SDyv...0/P1040476.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/raddeering/SDyv...0/P1040477.JPG |
Looks good, do you plan or racing at track with it or bashing? What rockers are you using?
|
That is a great looking set up! What voltage do you plan on running the MMM combo at?
|
I would say that you need the stock servo horn from a revo. It is much shorter than the blue al one you have. Plus I would think that the g3r kit would use the stock 2.5 revo link that connects the servo horn to the steering linkage, but I ma not sure.

DRIFT BUGGY - I am using P2 rockers rockers right now. I think that I might end up switching to P3. On paper it sounds like a good idea but I am not for sure. I will use it for racing and bashing.
jnev - Right now I have some old MaxAmps 2s 6000. I think that I will end up purchasing some 3s lipos. I want the truck to be faster than the nitros and last run for atleast 20min. What should I use? Lincpimp - I bet that would work alot better. Thanks for the link. |
Welcome to the forum Feistyacorn!..
Looks like you've got one hell of a project going.. I've always been a big fan of those center slippers, I never had one but they COOOOL, do you know how it will work yet??.. Have you figured out where you’re going to mount the MMM, Just curios.. Thanks for sharing your COOL build and welcome to the team, you taped into some of the most knowledgeable gentlemen on the wed.. (Not me mind you):lol: but others here are great!! Have a great one.. And thanks for sharing.. |
Thanks for the nice warm welcome!
This is my first brushless MT conversion. I took a few year break from the hobby and when I came back I was shocked to see how things have progressed. Its amazing! :surprised: I bought the slipper from a guy on ebay. I think it was someone from the forums. It seams that the sprong is actually some sort of harder plastic. I thought it would be softer. Hopefully it will work out. If not I would really love to have a center diff. I was planning on mounting the reciever so that the antenna can go right into the antenna mount. And the MMM would be mounted where the second servo would go, probably on a piece of CF. Last night I was looking at my drive shafts and I noticed that the Traxxas appear to have a little wobble. I was wondering if yours were the same way. I also have a huge amount of play with my front Gorillamaxx drive shaft. It was soo bad I ended up going to Dorn Hardware and getting some springs to use in the drive cups. Thanks for the help! :mdr: Quote:

Either way Nice build and please keep the team updated with future progress. Have a great one.. |
My driveshafts have alot of slop in them too (diff to wheel shafts), its right around the UJ area, but its hasnt caused any problems to date- very sturdy shafts to be honest.
Small springs (from a pen?) or some fuel tubing usually cures the center shaft issue by centering them in realtion to the drive cups at each end, but if they are too loose they can tend to pop out sometimes- time will tell. |
I'd rather use small o-rings to take up some slack on the center shafts. As for the Strobe sprong, I was about to buy one for $25 but I chose to use a hard rubber gasket for kitchen faucets that I bought from the jJpanese hardware store for $2 and inverted a stock 3906 slipper metal holder to keep it in place. I have not run it yet but it looks like it would work. If not, $2 is nothing to worry about :).

Update
Hi Guys! It has been a while since my last post. Things have been really busy around here (not RC related unfortunately:oops:). I took some pictures of my Revo this weekend. I am getting really anxious for the MMM to finally be here. I am wondering if I should purchase the Castle Creations 2200kv motor or if I should get the Techno Neu 2.5d/f. I have noticed that most members have a lower kv motor for 6s. I want good run times but I also want the truck to be capable of 50mph. Hopefully I will have this truck running by next year.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/raddeering/SJZP...0/P8030305.JPG I finally bought another 3ghz receiver. I was thinking about mounting the MMM where the second servo would go. I am still undecided on what I should do for a front bumber. I was thinking that I might trim up the stock one to fit under the body. http://lh4.ggpht.com/raddeering/SJZP...0/P8030307.JPG You can see the spring that I used in the drive cups at this angle. I like George16 idea with the o-rings and will end up doing that. http://lh6.ggpht.com/raddeering/SJZP...0/P8030312.JPG Some old lipos that will have to work untill I get some extra cash for two 3s packs. I was looking at the Trackpower TPTXX49003S. Does anyone have experience with this pack? http://lh5.ggpht.com/raddeering/SJZP...0/P8030308.JPG Another picture of the Strobe Slipper. http://lh6.ggpht.com/raddeering/SJZP...0/P8030309.JPG Brand new Proline LPR Bow-Tie tires on black rims. SEXY!!! http://lh4.ggpht.com/raddeering/SJZP...0/P8030310.JPG I got photo happy and took some pictures of my other "baby". Awesome for me that this one has a speed control. http://lh6.ggpht.com/raddeering/SJZQ...0/P8030314.JPG |
I have a couple recommendations for you:
Wait on the MMM esc, and get a Tekno Neu 1515 2.5d, or a normal Neu 1515 2d, that's a good motor for 4s and 6s. Also, check out the Trackpower 3s 5400 hardcase packs. And a comment: IT LOOKS AWESOME! |

Your truck looks sweet!! On mounting the mmm where the second servo would go...it is too big. It will be in harms way if you mount it there, just my .02$ worth. Can't wait to see a vid of that on 6s...it is gonna scream...
|
Motor on order!!!!!!!!!!!
I decided that I couldn’t wait anymore. You know, they could sell out. :mdr: I just bought the Tekno Neu 2.5D/f. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
On a side note… this motor is more expensive than my first hobby grade RC. It better be the most awesome of all awesomeness. Does anybody know if this motor still needs a rear endbell cover? |
Sealed can= no endbell cover.

My baby is finally alive!!!!!!!! :yipi: I made a plate for my MMM. Here are some pics. Sorry for the crappy picture quality. I will upload some better ones soon.

Hi everyone! I took a few shots of my baby last night when I was installing the latest Castle Link software. :yipi: For the time being I am using some old Maxamps 2s 6000mah lipos. Next spring I plan on purchasing some Trackpower 3s 4900mah 25c lipos. Right now I get about a hour of run time with the 4s setup. I am starting to not like the RPM stuff.:whip: It is way, way too flexible. The rear arms flex so much that I have popped the drive shaft out of the cup several times. One time was from a dead stand still. I mashed the throttle to do a wheelie and the shaft popped out. I was also jumping the truck on a small jump (the smallest that I have) the truck landed on the left front wheel and pulled the pillow ball thru the hub carrier. I was looking at the Flextek arms and the new Revo hubs, if I get them it would be after I get the batteries. I can’t wait to switch it over to 6s! Then we will see some carnage! Anyways... here she is. Thanks for looking!
http://lh4.ggpht.com/raddeering/SQCF...0/P1040540.JPG I used a lighter to heat up the antenna tube to bend it. The Receiver is sitting on a leftover piece of Lexan from the body. The MMM is sitting on a plate that I designed in AutoCAD (I have attached a 1:1 drawing of the plate; It may need some tweaks to fit). I used the Gorillamaxx ESC mounting post with a few washers to help support it. I used 3mm cone washers where the top deck connects to the “X” braces. I hate the counter sunk crap, especially when it isn’t needed. http://lh3.ggpht.com/raddeering/SQCF...0/P1040541.JPG I didn’t like how high the body sits on the chassis. So I shaved the crap out of body posts. That wasn’t low enough so I re-drilled the mounts and shaved some more. Bumpers? We don’t need no stinking bumpers! http://lh6.ggpht.com/raddeering/SQCF...0/P1040542.JPG I ended up switching over to P3 rockers. My girlfriend bough them for me as a surprise. She is the best!!! http://lh4.ggpht.com/raddeering/SQCF...0/P1040544.JPG http://lh6.ggpht.com/raddeering/SQCF...0/P1040545.JPG |
Nice, so clean, hehe. What swaybars are u using?
|
Quote:
|
Thanks, I thought so too, but wasn't sure about the rear sways.
|
Just as a FYI the rear sway bars could have been designed better. I had to add washers under each or the ball studs to make it work properly. The rear ball studs use a T10 driver, I thought that was strange. Another cool thing that I found was this. :yes:They were meant for the jato, but they work awesome!
|
Hehe, nice.
Im trying to make my mind what swaybars to get to my G2r. Traxxas owns or Tekno rc's ones.. With traxxas I could keep my esc top of the rear shocks. With tekno's it is just drop in, no tuning what so ever needed. But then have to do new place for esc.. Your esc is nicely mounted, maybe I have to think something similar :intello: |
The Traxxas ones have worked awesome. I love the way this thing drives! Your ESC plate looks nice, so I might get the Traxxas ones if I were you. They werent that bad to install. I am also running Traxxas Variable Damping Shock Pistons from the Revo Platinum. They are also suppose to help with the trucks handling.
One of my friends knows someone who can machine CF and he is local. I might have him make a ESC plate out of 3mm CF. I also want to get rid of that hole where the second servo would go. Mabe Gorillamaxx could hook a brother up. |
Looking good feistyacorn.:intello:. got any Video of it bashing, jumping, crashing you the know the usual
Have a great one Sir. Shaun. |
Hi Shaun! I was looking at your bad ass builds. :surprised: You have been a busy guy! I dont have a video yet. I might make a video one of these weekends. It is starting to get cold here in Wisconsin and it is usually dark when I get home at night. I will make some videos of it on 6s next spring for sure.
|
Thanks for the smile Feisty.. I'm sorry to hear winter is starting, it's still a rough 81 degrees here in So-Cal. I'm looking forward to see the video's so please do post, nothing puts a smile on one face more than see and GR3 (electrical) whomp on some nitro.. (Goo Feisty) LOL.LOL..
Have a great one!.. |
Update
A lot of things have happened since my last post. As it turns out brushless + 6s lipo = very, very, very powerful... My fiance and family members pooled together and bought a pair of thunder power 3s 4900mah 40c lipo for my birthday. Because of the new batts I spent most of the summer replacing the drivetrain. I also had a lipo go bad on me (thunder power replaced the batt under warranty) so I really didnt have a reliable truck until the end of summer.
I had problems with the roll pin in the top shaft of the transmission always breaking. I replaced it with a solid steel pin. So far so good. <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/DxAc3KjtXfMuTJ-bJQCmvg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_IUC4TstN9Gg/Sy_crpjMUOI/AAAAAAAAAxE/TQQshyIwVKM/s400/P9070362.JPG" /></a> I also made a pin "cover" to protect the gears just incase the pin snaps again. <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/EHsV_DeBsv11I3WeAJTeIA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_IUC4TstN9Gg/Sy_crEkwJ9I/AAAAAAAAAxA/BZX4sZy2yUI/s400/P9070361.JPG" /></a> <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/nh89PUwkxEZku_2wwiT0SA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_IUC4TstN9Gg/Sy_csSPcTSI/AAAAAAAAAxI/oS0Cic2hmnY/s400/P9070364.JPG" /></a> <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/rxBxpFgtkpk324PJWAejmw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_IUC4TstN9Gg/Sy_cs2d6CeI/AAAAAAAAAxM/YMr6cbdzv_E/s400/P9070365.JPG" /></a> I also upgraded to a ue steel idler. <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/muygOVRJupOuSRBv4rtAqA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_IUC4TstN9Gg/Sy_ctj42RdI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/dIAIjmqzH0U/s400/P9070366.JPG" /></a> I will post some more pics of the chassis and upgrades later this week. |
So its update time again... :intello: This truck has gone thru a lot of changes since my last update. I am now running a Slipperential with center diff mount and custom lipo trays from RCM. I also picked up a 1520 when Castle had their sale going on a while ago. I thought the 1515 had torque, I was wrong. This thing is nuts! I'm running 10k in the Slipperential and it will still pull wheelies from a roll!

I almost forgot, my Neu 1515 2.5d needs a good home. Anyone know someone?

Where did you end up finding your CD mount at? I am always keeping my eyes peeled for one to pop up. I really want to get rid of my strobe slipper
|
Available from rcmonster store.
|
Specifically for the G3R revo? I was under the impression that he didnt have one for it. Will take a lookey!
|
It's the universal cd mount. V easy to install and then look for suitable dog bones.
