What charger do you guys use?
I'm looking for a new charger to do 8-10 cell packs, my current one (Novak Millenium) is brilliant but only does 8 cell packs :(
I've looked at the Duratrax ICE, but I think its overkill for what I want. Also looked at the Pro-Peak Supernova, but I think its a pulse charger, when I need linear as I use NIMH cells. I'm not aware of many other chargers on the market that can do high voltage packs so I'd be grateful for any recommendations! Cheers. |
I use the ice charger. It is a nice charger. Some time you better off getting more than less of what you want. If you upgrade to something else you may need it. I looked at the triton to. It charged a few more cells than the ice.
|
I too use the ICE charger. It is a good investment in the long run.
|
Don't know if you guys know the brand Graupner, i've got the duo pro 30, it can charge up to 30 cells, and 10S lipoly
|
I was down my LHS today picking up a Pro-Peak 13.8V 20A power supply and was offered a Hitec CG-335 at a really good price so snapped it up. It can do 4-24 cell, and although it doesn't have the configurability of my Novak (Can't adjust delta peak cutoff) it seems to be doing OK, my new charge setup is silent compared to my old PSU/Novak setup. It also has a secondary output for reciever packs, and a special glowplug thing (although as I don't run nitro I have no use for either).
So anyone have any experience with this charger? Have I just wasted my money or is it going to treat my cells nicely The only thing that concerns me is the box says "MOSFET drive control with pulse charging". Whereas I always use a linear charge on my Novak. Should this make much of a difference? |
No idea about that charger, never heard of it. I still use two MRC Superbrain 959's for charging duties, they get the job done and are cheap for the features they have.
|
i use the duratrax ice and an astroflight 109.
|
I use the Duratrax ICE, an MRC 969 SuperBrain Pro, FMA/Kokam BalancePro, and an Energizer 15-minute charger (for all the AA cells).
|
I use 2 Superbrain 959s. :o
Compared to everyone else, its like entering a rifle competition with a slingshot. I just can't bring myself to spend the money on a charger, and then have to buy a power source. I mean I'd be paying enough for the charger, they ought to give me the power source, or hell give me some money back on a combo deal or something. Or how about a underaged discount. |
I'm returning the Hitec unit when they open today, its not suitable for my packs. Kept false peaking on one 6 cell pack, and on an 8 cell pack it made the cells rather toasty.
Looks like one day I'll have to sink money into the Duratrax ICE, but until then, my Novak Millenium will have to keep chugging along. |

Returned the Hitec unit with only minimal problems, and guess what, used the money toward a 1/8 buggy! They had a brand new roller (Power Racing Swift) for £100, couldn't resist. I don't know the brand, and its a rip off car of other ones, but its got some really nice bits on, and I've seen the same type of car launched 25-30ft in the air over and over again so it can't be that bad. Naturally its going brushless :)

dabid, Does he charge two packs at once w/ it? W/ the right power supply you should be able to serial connect two packs and use a single charger, me thinks. The LHS has the 110 (1-20 Nicd/NiMh cells) for $99.00 (usually retails for $129). Seems like a good price...just need the proper power supply. |
He uses the suggested power supply, the one that Tower lists on that page. What LHS has the 110? Hobby Town is the only one I can think of, unless Hobby People got one recently and have been hiding it on the bird nerd side. I just checked HP's site, if they have one, it's not listed on there. Also checked Hobby Town's site, but I can never find any crap on there anyway......Hot Rod's maybe? :D

Yup, price reduced. $99 for the 110...hmm, hope that's not the old model. *scratches head I didn't look *that closely* at it. |
Hey, I gots connections with the guys there, might be able to get it cheaper if either of us wanted it. :D

I'll have to look at it again today and see if it calls my name. |
I use the good o'l Super Brain 959. No sence in me going all out on one of those Cadillacs, I'm just a basher anyhow. I wanna get the 969 to charge 2 packs at once. I'll wait for that when I get my EVX or somthing. I'm gonna be running 12 cells (maybe 14 later) in my Pede's. My soon to be power source for my charger is gonna be a car battery. Plain and simple, I'm gonna lug that sucker around everywhere and get some muscles while doing so :L:
Ray:D |
Ray, you might wanna go for the 977 when it comes out, it's more better than the 969. However, that said, I used MetalMan's 969 when we met up for a bash a month ago and it worked beautifully on my GP3300 matched packs, peaked both at the same time charging off my Accord's battery.......which might account for why it sometimes has a hard time starting now. :D

Great Planes Triton. :D
|
I looked at one of them myself nick. How does that do? I was thinking about getting one because I getting ready to exceed the Ices copacity of cells per pack.
|
I've heard only great things about the Triton, it'd be a serious contender if I were in the market for a high end charger.
|
I already have a 969 but it's not working anymore(don't know why). I'm going to buy another charger for my e-maxx. Here's my question:
I see that the triton charger handles up to 24 cells, is it possible to charge my 2 gp3300 in series with only one Triton? Is it possible? |
yes it is. Just build the y for it like you hook to esc.

Found a spare PC power supply...can't wait. |
The Integy Pro 4 charger I sell charges up to 15 cells at once and has its own power supply. This is an excellent charger that is reliable and capable.

Yes I'm pretty sure. I used it with two different powersupply(The 969 one and my PC ps). I will look for the integy pro 4, looks like it is a good charger...

Does Lipo too, think upto 9000mAh but don't know how many cells? Never used Lipos on it. It has a fan for cooling too. Loads of options, never even used them all yet. Worth the money. I've used the Superbrain and Propeak 2500VP and they obviously just can't compare. You also have a choice of 10 ringtones! :L: |
I use a either a Schulze 6-636 or a 6-330 the first can charge 1-36 cells the second 1-30 cells on one side and 4-5 cells on the other(receiver packs). They both charge just about any battery under the sun .20 mah-8.2 amps in a fixed or automatic mode. The can also do a whole bunch more.
