Your opinions...

First off, this is rustlerboi1052 on all other forums BTW...
Been doing alot of research on my MBX5-T electric conversion and I don't feel like waiting another 2 months for my MMM. It seems like there are still bugs in the MMM to work out, and i'd just hate to keep waiting. This has been on my mind for awhile now already.

Anyways I was thinking about running a MM speedo with the castle BEC instead. I'd be only running 4S lipos with...i'm not sure what motor yet. Is the performance good with the MM and the 4S, or will it burn up most likely? And what modifications do you do to the speedo in order to attain the capabilities of running a 4S lipo without burning up? I'm just bashing for now, but there is a possiblity I will race this setup.

Also, what decent motor do you guys suggest that will run very well with a
4S lipo? I want something with power like the Neus, but not that expensive. My budget isn't anywhere NEAR that of a Neu, although I'd kill to have one.

Just want your opinions on everything.

Thanks in advance,

steve

i believe everyone is liking the medusa 60mm motors they are twice as expensive as a feiago xl but only half the price of the neu and are inbetween in performance also.

azjc 06.03.2008 09:14 PM

if you are having budget constraints I would go with a L can feigao I get good results with a 9L and MM ESC in a Rustler

dirt101 06.03.2008 09:21 PM

I wouldnt use an L can, you will see severe overheating

Steve Krug 06.03.2008 09:30 PM

I've heard about the Medusa's, somebody told me the 60mm motor will be slightly small for a truggy, and will heat up also...And the highest KV rated motor for the Medusa 60mm is 2000kv, which I would think would be slow on a 4S lipo...

Steve Krug 06.03.2008 09:32 PM

Whooops, also, anybody by chance have and used gear they can sell for cheap? I'm a HS student just so you know that I can't afford much LOL.

oh..its a truggy I thought it was a buggy I would go with a 8XL than just under 2100kv..avg price for one is $80

If it were the MBX5 (Buggy), the 9L would be a decent choice on a budget. While it will run a little warmer than an XL can setup, it still performs well on 4S. I've run a 9L for a bit in my MBX5 with good results.

entjoles 06.03.2008 09:57 PM

i have a heatsink/clamp for xl series motors i will give you

i have ran 4s and 5s in my mm and it does very well, 4s for track use should be fine with a 8xl

the mm "should be fine" but as with any component check temps and gear accordingly

Steve Krug 06.03.2008 10:30 PM

I may put my order in now...

Feigao/Nemesis/Wanderer "XL" Brushless Motor $80.00 $80.00
wanderer xl wind: - 8xl - -

Electric Motor mount for Mugen $55.00 $55.00

5mm bore, mod1 pinion $12.00 $12.00
pinion size - mod1 -5mm: - 13 tooth hardened steel - -

Castle Creations Mamba Max ESC $137.00 $137.00

Castle Creations 10 amp Switching BEC $22.00 $22.00
Sub Total: $306.00 Delete
Shipping Estimate: $9.79
Grand Total: $315.79

And my gosh 15 bucks over the amount i've got, meh.

entjoles,
Seriously??!?! That would be so incredibly awesomely awesome. You can't imagine how much that'd help. I see you live in MN? Where you located? I'm in SW Minneapolis lol.

BlackedOutREVO 06.03.2008 11:03 PM

Good to see you over here man!

Sounds like a good list, you can always swap to something nicer if needed, but still BL is way better then nitro! Haha

Still going for True rc lipos, or no?

Steve Krug 06.03.2008 11:05 PM

I WAS going for truerc lipos until I found out they are out of stock with ALL of their 4S lipos. I have a feeling members from here bought all of them LOL.

entjoles 06.03.2008 11:06 PM

i live in eden prairie, and yes you can have it , i have no use for it and you seem like the right person to get it

steve krug.....pm me your address and ill try to get it out by the end of the week, no cost to you

BlackedOutREVO 06.03.2008 11:11 PM

Haha yeah, true rc packs arent always in stock, there a darn good deal for what they are for sure!

jnev 06.03.2008 11:11 PM

That is an awfully kind thing for you to do entjoles.

Welcome Steve! You may want to try emailing or calling TrueRC. Often times, they don't have time to update the webpage once they restock their stuff...

entjoles 06.04.2008 01:25 AM

thanks , jnev , i hate to take business away from Mike , but i think its the right thing to do , need to grow the sport , and i have no need for it and i can only hope that he will order parts from Mike for his build......:rules:

jhautz 06.04.2008 01:33 AM

another decent budget lipo option is the zippy packs from hobbycity.com

I have a couple of the 5000mah packs and they are dang good for the $$$. But they are usually out of stock also.

tc3_racer_001 06.04.2008 04:30 AM

wow, im also a HS student and it seems most people seem to leave us behind! great to see someone helping us out :)

im slowly managing, with everything paid for my build... yay :)

i got sick of my esavage (cheap way to get an e monster, but i paid 2x more for upgrades and brushless... which ended up being the cheapest thing!!)

so ive gone with a neu, mamba monster and a123 cells, and if this doesnt work ill be very annoyed and will ahve a $1200 usless pile of electronics!

azjc 06.04.2008 07:59 AM

you could go with Zippy packs.....they have gotten very good reviews from other users I have not used them myself since I have plenty of FP packs already. Here is a link for a 4s 5000 pack for $85

I just wanted to say the amount of help I am getting here is overwhelming. A nice guy with the alias of Dafni sent me a PM saying he'd help me with anything I need. I can't believe it. And also enjoles saying he'd send me a heat sink for FREE? I've never been treated like this at any forum i've ever been a member at, which is ALOT. Everybody should really give themselves a pat on the back, because it is the members here that are motivating the sport and helping people out to a point that is nothing short of AMAZING.

Thank you all!!

I ordered the MM, CCBEC, 13t pinion, mugen mount, and 8XL late last night and hope to get it by this weekend to start building. I'll post a thread about the conversion!!

Peace

-steve

Arct1k 06.04.2008 06:09 PM

Grab a novak HV cap and a 25mm fan for that MM - It helps no end...

If you ordered it last night, Mike will probably have it shipped out you so you have it by Saturday if you selected Priority Mail. Mike packs and ships stuff faster than most any other online retailer I've ever shopped with.
