my weekend is ruined!!!!!!

so, I've posted many questions (lots of stupid ones too!), and i've done all my homework. I sold off my entire parts bin of nitro stuff one by one on ebay, along with some random extra stuff to help fund my new BL Muggy. I ordered tons of stuff from many vendors. I kept track of the orders, and I spent LOTS of money. Then, I put it all together after putting my son to bed every night for a few weeks (had to wait for parts to trickle in), and had to make a bunch of stuff that doesn't fit, fit. But it was fun, and I was excited; I knew the payoff would be worth it! I've seen the videos on youtube!!

So finally, last night, I charged my 2 packs. I got done making all my solder connections, and I checked every single thing multiple times. It was ALL ready to go. All I had to do was calibrate the MMM (I had already programmed what I wanted through castle link!). I had some trouble making it work, and, then, NOTHING. It died. Yes folks, another dead MMM. Drives me nuts; so much went into this whole project, I waited so long, and now, I'm gonna have to wait a FEW MORE WEEKS!! My little boy was dying to see it run too (daddy's monsa truck!).

This, my friends, SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sure over half the members here on RCM can relate to what you are going through myself included my Revo project was pushing a year to complete

TexasSP 06.07.2008 11:47 PM

Sometimes I love this hobby so much it hurts!

It is how it is with rc. You win some you lose some but keep on fighting another day.

brushlessboy16 06.07.2008 11:52 PM

took me 10 months to finish my raze project

BP-Revo 06.08.2008 12:29 AM

If it makes you feel better every single part I've ordered for my G2R ever has been on backorder and I've had to wait for it...

But its always been worth the wait.

MetalMan 06.08.2008 12:51 AM

We all can share your pain. Prior to the release of the Mamba Max ESC, there wasn't a single solid option out there (at least for me). MGM ESCs were okay, but had crappy driveability, and had bad service. BK Warrior ESCs couldn't handle more than 2pole motors and had crappy service. Schulze ESCs worked well but were (and still are) super expensive and had (still have) a tendency to burn. Mtroniks ESCs worked pretty well, but were prone to smoking, although they had good service. And so on.

I probably spent a good $800+ on BL ESCs that ended up dead, prior to the release of the Mamba Max, when I was too young to have a job, and was getting maybe $20 a week.

another mmm died! sorry for you mk351e.the 30% of failure look like 50%,,,and for cc are not able to fix the issue,i guess that im a very very lucky guy:yes:mine still run nice so far,,, me too i put a lot of month to assemble my maxx like i would .....and a long wait for the release of the mmm...now i become more afraid to see my e-maxx stop running and have the same issue of you guy's the death of MMM

sleebus.jones 06.08.2008 01:18 AM

Ehh, my emaxx and eHyper were both close to a year in development. Patience is key to the high-powered end of this hobby. When you're trying to put the power output that is more than most home appliances into a battery powered vehicle, there's gonna be some bumps in the road. We are regularly treading on paths that we wouldn't have dreamed of a few years ago. The electrical engineers at where I work are amazed to see the power curves from my R/Cs.

johnrobholmes 06.08.2008 01:28 AM

Yep, projects can have snags. Try being on the development side of it! I spent a good 6 months getting parts for a custom motor and a factory pulled out on me. Lots of time and money wasted.

e-mike 06.08.2008 01:29 AM

my neighbor to is impressed o see the actual rc car!!!(he's 58 years old)..is a electrical engeneer and he dont believe that in 2008 we are able to make a battery pack who handle:yes: 120amps continuously :lol:and also that we pay a lot $$$$$ to see a esc in fire or die or have some issue:lol:

Jeremy1976 06.08.2008 03:15 AM

Sorry to hear bud! Castle will take care of you and you will get it up and running.

Serum 06.08.2008 03:29 AM

can you please post this info in the sticky in the castle creations subforum?

If you think putting an RC together take ages, try building a cnc controlled machine..

DRIFT_BUGGY 06.08.2008 05:41 AM

Yeah, been 4 months now in my project which I should have going in 2 - 3 days and hoping that the MMM will hold out for a little while. What sucks with long projects like these is that you never know when new stuff will be out which will make your current gear which is all new and worth alot outdated

JThiessen 06.08.2008 01:55 PM

I'm feeling your pain!

I also have seemingly constant issues with the brushless motors, and especially the ESC's. In two years of owning them, I probably have a total of 30 hours run time. And as I sit right now, I have two HV-Maxx systems that dont work (one bent rotor, one bad esc), and one MGM/Fiego that doesnt work (esc bad), and a MMM on backorder at Tower. I had thought that going to the HV's was going to get me a little more reliability, while sacrificing some performance. Yeah, right.

I think the only thing one can do is to buy a set of Titans and a ESC. Have them on hand for when the brushless stuff doesnt work. Probably will wear them out!

NovakTwo 06.08.2008 03:29 PM

The Novak items can be sent in and replaced:

Novak Brushless Motor Replacement options

We also have the HV 5mm rotor upgrade kit available.

I just sent the one with the bad ESC off yesterday, and put the order in for the rotor upgrade kit.

The one with the bad ESC has already been replaced once (different issue). I purchased it new last May, and still have yet to run a complete set of batteries through that truck. (part of that is my fault since I dont get time but every three months or so to work on these - so the replacment one actually sat for about 4 months before I finally got around to wiring it up).

George16 06.08.2008 08:41 PM

It's taking me awhile to get my gmaxx complete too. At least you're back stateside where different shopping options and LHS are readily accessible. I'm in the military stationed overseas and just imagine what I go through waiting for parts. I'm just hoping my MMM won't die on me when my motor and batteries arrive sometime this week. USPS Priority shipping takes between 8-14 days to arrive. I'm a happy man when I get a package within a week.

killajb 06.08.2008 09:49 PM

I think at times we all have to remember that this is a hobby. It's easy to be disappointed after money is spent and problems still arise. At the end of the day, patience always wins over frustration. I just set fire to my Quark Pro Car 33 after running it in my Mini Inferno ST on 4s. I've got a full carbon fiber chassis conversion, a sweet chrome outrunner and pretty much every part is aftermarket aside from the hub carriers. Still, I chose to see how fast it would go and ended up with a few minutes of fun and then flames..

bl-is-future 06.08.2008 09:57 PM

I feel extremely lucky! It took me 1 week to build my flm savage then waited a week for MMM and it is still kicking hard and fast (knock on wood) It is my first bl conversion and it ran with an 8xl but that did blow apart and my luck came too and a guy was selling a neu and got that so only had about 5 days down time form that. I couldnt be more happy.

andy85 06.09.2008 12:29 AM

Bloody hell!! i feel for u dude. Same thing happened to me while i was building e-revo.. but now i'm quite happy with this setup. Just need to upgrade the esc n motor soon so it can handle 10s =]

I'll admit to not reading all the posts.. but did you consider getting a MM esc w/ a BEC until you get a good working MMM? Granted you're limited to a 4s config, but that is still plenty for most motors :) Then you always have a spare, for any problems :)

TDC57 06.10.2008 12:59 AM

Hay mk351e,
I feel your pain.. I’ve been fortunate enough to perform several ground up builds this year that have costs me thousands and thousands of dollars, the parts usually end up in boxes until enough of them have arrived to actually get excided and start building them. Hours are spent carefully assembling them to you actually achieve your build. (That’s a great feeling) what NOT is being unable to do anything without properly working components, (past example) I just completed a 47hr $3,500 E-Revo build and my new controller wont work (RRRRRRRrrrrrr) I ended up sending it back to the manufacture and 3 weeks later the problem was fixed and it’s been great ever since. It sucks… but for what it’s worth, it all works out in the end!..

Bust of luck..
