My Slow Project

Hey guys, I know most of you guys are Monster Truck people, but I thought some might like to see what I have been up to.

Mike has been a big help on the project. Just wanted to say thanks. :)

coolhandcountry 09.26.2005 05:17 PM

It looks like it could be slow. :D Have you done any speed runs with it? How does it handle? Man that is nice. Got a video?

PerformanceRC 09.26.2005 05:35 PM

I did have time at a drag strip, but I had lithium polymer problems. Its running on 6S BTW. Then I bent my motor shaft, but it was a 1/8 shaft and I ordered a 5mm shaft. I do have another run on the 6th of october. I will have video and speed.

stampy 09.26.2005 06:34 PM

holy crap look at the gearing on that  bet that thing is all top end :p

PerformanceRC 09.26.2005 06:47 PM

Heh, figured someone would notice those gears. Those were custom machined by Cold Fusion Racing on short notice. Its running a 32 Pinion, and I have two spurs, a 32 and 28. Cold Fusion is working on some more gears for me though.

squeeforever 09.26.2005 06:47 PM

what in the world is that?!?

stampy 09.26.2005 06:51 PM

its a hpi of some sort

MetalMan 09.26.2005 06:53 PM

Which motor are you running?

PerformanceRC 09.26.2005 06:59 PM

Its an HPI Super RS4 with a temporary chassis, the real chassis is being machined.

Motor is a 10L.

dabid 09.26.2005 07:03 PM

How do you not instantly nuke the belts and stuff? I'm amazed at the gears alone, can't wait to see that thing HAUL!

BTW, it's a RS4 Super, the top deck gave it away.

MetalMan 09.26.2005 07:03 PM

What material will the "real" chassis be machined from? I hope CF :).

RC-Monster Mike 09.26.2005 07:12 PM

Looks pretty sweet, Jack! I am looking forward to the speed run results!

PerformanceRC 09.26.2005 07:15 PM

Real Chassis will most likely be CF. I was considering aluminum though. It would look cool polished, and weight isnt necessarily the worst thing when travelling insane speeds.

As soon as I have my foams made, and my gears from Cold Fusion, and the new 10L from Mike, I'll make a pre-test run, and then on the 6th of October I have a run at a drag strip.

Serum 09.27.2005 01:22 AM

SWEET!

How many cells will it drive around?

Dafni 09.27.2005 02:03 AM

NICE! Is this 8th or 10th scale? I once saw those 8th scale onroad nitros, and they were really really fast. Guys told me they go like 80mph.

I like your project. This is a sensible platform for insane speeds!

Serum 09.27.2005 02:45 AM

True, anything is better than an emaxx on 48 cells!!

Dafni 09.27.2005 03:01 AM

Or a AE RC10 with a Lehner 22 ......

:L:

Serum, you got me right.
btw, he said it's 6s Lipo.

The RS4 Super was actually between 1/8 and 1/10 scale, so it'd be like 1/9. I saw one in a hobby shop down by my grandma's house when I was down there for the summer, it had a Lambo body, and looked like it'd never been run......beautiful car that one was. Someone airbrushed the body, and I would have loved to take it off their hands.....that and the Tamiya F-150 on the shelf next to it, as well as the numerous other cool cars they had!

PerformanceRC 09.27.2005 06:08 AM

Its running on 6 Kokam 3200 Cells.

The HPI Super RS4's were always classified officially as like 9th scale or something odd like that, but 1/8 Nitro bodies will fit it.

crazyjr 09.27.2005 08:30 AM

Nice car PerformanceRC. I think i might have tried a 8 or 9XL myselfwith that gearing

Serum 09.27.2005 08:49 AM

It's superlight crazyjr, it will do fine! remember the KV range on the feigaos is without any load..

crazyjr 09.27.2005 10:01 AM

I know, but the thought of all that power, yall are corrupting me.

coolhandcountry 09.27.2005 11:45 AM

We getting you there crazy. Should have suggesed a 2240. :D
I like the looks of the car. It just wouldn't do me no good. I don't have no place to run that car. Put some 40 series dirt hawgs under it and we could do something.

dabid 09.27.2005 02:06 PM

It's only got 12mm hexes, but keep in mind that you can put 2.2" buggy tires on the Super Nitro wheels, and then you can have some fun! :D

Serum 09.27.2005 02:14 PM

With this weight and 6S lipo, it WILL be fun...

PerformanceRC 09.27.2005 03:44 PM

I ran this car with 22/44 Gearing on 3S, and it was way undergeared. So I figure double the power, and double the gearing should be OK. Minimal weight gain. RTR weight of the car is around 4 1/2 lbs.

Serum 09.27.2005 04:10 PM

Got a video camera??! (if it's a yes, you know my next question...)

PerformanceRC 09.27.2005 04:13 PM

Video Camera...Video Camera...

http://www.rpm-photography.com/Galle...tudio/XL1s.jpg

Yep, theres one.

Dafni 09.27.2005 04:17 PM

Gosh, this is alot of camera!

Do you wanna come over and make a vid of my RC's?:)

Your onroad rocket is awesome! Do you plan to race it on tracks, or just drag races?? Either way, have fun dusting some nitros!

Serum 09.27.2005 04:27 PM

Someone with more than 1 hobby!

What did you used as white background for the pics you made?

PerformanceRC 09.27.2005 04:44 PM

The car will be used for a couple of top speed runs, and then will be retired to drag racing for the people who still think their nitro is faster.

Yeah, I have a small photography business. I just used a large sheet of paper, I don't have a permanent studio yet. The picture of the video camera wasnt very good actually. Was over exposed and soft focus resulted. The pics of the car are much better.

Dafni 09.27.2005 05:04 PM

Yeah, the pics of the RC are AWESOME!!

And you're right, the one of the camera is horrible. A disgrace, could hardly tell what it is.:p kiddin

Hey, you could loose a bit of weight by installing an UBEC. (one less thing to charge, too)

Don't know if I already told you, but thanks for sharing. (I'll think twice before I post a pic ever again;) )

PerformanceRC 09.27.2005 05:07 PM

Thanks,

I was considering a UBEC, but the RX Pack is only 650 mah batteries, it hardly weighs anything, and it helps to balance the chassis. So I think it will stay.

Serum 09.27.2005 05:10 PM

who needs balance at 90mph...+ ?

Nick 09.27.2005 05:12 PM

Although the faster you go, the more important balance is? Physics multiply?

(No scientific mumbo-jumbo like the helium wheels post please. :D)

PerformanceRC 09.27.2005 05:17 PM

90+, Feeling conservative today?;)

As for the balance, I'm not sure. Makes me feel better though. :)

dabid 09.27.2005 05:56 PM

There was a TC3 made by Hardcore Racing or somebody like that a while ago....reason I bring it up is because they had it soooo dialed that you could balance it on two golf tees, one at the front, one at the rear, and it'd just sit there. Oh yeah, it was a nitro one too if I remember right. :D

PerformanceRC 09.27.2005 06:38 PM

Bleh...Hardcore...Bleh TC3...Bleh Nitro...:p

I'm already there. I would've suggested that but was concerned about belt and pulley clearance, otherwise i would've suggested a 3080

nitrostarter 09.27.2005 10:44 PM

Are we trying to break records here? either that or a leg if it got out of control.
