What are the strongest E-Maxx shocks?

I lost two shocks trying to keep up with truggy's at a track this weekend. I'm ready to get some good/strong shocks.

Are proline powerstrokes the strongest or front buggy shocks? also what will fit with the stock axles on my 3.3?

mkrusedc 06.24.2008 05:05 PM

I have used BigBores, PowerStrokes and UE SuperShocks. IF you are racing the PowersStrokes are more tunable and you may like them better. If you are bashing the UE or !/8 scale buggy shocks IMO would be better.

GorillaMaxx360 06.24.2008 05:16 PM

+1 for UE Shocks

notnodak 06.24.2008 05:26 PM

All I'm looking for is something that I can beat the snot out of and not have to fix as much as stock. Would BigBores work or are the 1/8th buggy shocks stronger?

also what buggy shocks are a good deal?

Links anyone?

mkrusedc 06.24.2008 05:36 PM

Associated RC8 front shocks would be your best bet.

suicideneil 06.24.2008 06:25 PM

I picked up the Losi 8T shocks, very nice too.

GorillaMaxx360 06.24.2008 07:32 PM

The UE shocks are much more durable than the bigbores. the bigbores are nice annd i use them on my other cars i.e. my firestorm, but i switched from bigbores to 4 UE shocks on my maxx and they are much better and more durable.

notnodak 06.25.2008 12:01 AM

So just 4 losi 8t shocks or 8? would Powerstroke be better

azjc 06.25.2008 03:10 AM

I have heard of a shock that Losi makes that there is a conversion kit for the Savage, I dont know what Losi truck that are made for but it sounds like it is bigger than a Savage

lol check out the size of them they are the LST2 shocks that are on the muggy too (these are actually chinese rip offs) the LST2 ones have threaded adjustment and are nicer

thats a traxxas big bore on left and a losi 8T rear on the right of the big blue LST2 monster

heres a http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...ay283/lst2.jpgmaxx with them on it

azjc 06.25.2008 03:31 AM

that looks like that is it...is that big enough? if not you could go down to the local 4x4 shop and get some Rancho nitrogen charged shocks that will do the job....:-)

4 Losi would be good but they are huge. You'll need to modify your arms and if you are a heavy basher that mey cause other weak spots. I bashed the snot out of Powerstrokes and UE shocks without a problem.

notnodak 06.25.2008 12:27 PM

Thanks for the help. I'm narrowing it down real fast.

Anyone have pics or testimonials of the shaft size on the Bigbores vs Losi 8ight vs Proline? I'm sure I'll have $$$ into this so I only want to do it once. How about a side by side of proline and losi 8 shocks?

mkrusedc 06.25.2008 12:55 PM

Sorry I did not label that pic. Those are BigBores and PowerStrokes.

jayjay283 06.25.2008 02:10 PM

8ight rear/powerstroke bypass/8ight front

best I could do unless Mark wants to sell me his powerstrokes :great::lol:

mkrusedc 06.25.2008 03:05 PM

Actually those are old pics. I sold 4 coil over PowerStrokes with a full set of springs to a guy in the traxxas forum.

Notnodak in case you did not know the PowerStrokes have been discontinued. Replacment parts are hard to find.

notnodak 06.25.2008 04:19 PM

It looks like the losi 8 front shocks are too short. How does it affect the truck? Anyone with a pic of good shocks an a E-Maxx?

suicideneil 06.25.2008 05:14 PM

Check out the pics in my Gmaxx thread near the end- picks of a 4 shock & 8 shock setup with the Losi fronts. They are fine for the Gorilla suspension, but the rears would be better for normal maxx suspension.

They look like real LST shocks to me. The original LST shocks look like that. The LST2 shocks are threaded and the aftershock shocks are threaded plastic which some people like as they are lighter and just as tough. Yours also have the Alloy caps. I just bought some big bores for the rear of the stampede. I didn't know that bugg shocks were the right length.

the rears are too long for my liking, about 10mm longer than big bores, I like level suspension arms, I had to use the Integy(yeah) adjustable towers to get the right height to handle well where i drive. Good thing is for big air contests with the nitro guys I just unscrew the 4 screws and slide the tower down and have massive suspension travel. But Id go for the fronts if I had it to do over.

notnodak 06.25.2008 07:37 PM

I'll be looking for a set of frony losi8 shocks then or some other front buggy bigbore shock.

notnodak 06.26.2008 08:07 PM

If you had to chose between these and would you have 4 or 8 of each?

Can someone check if LST shocks will fit without the springs on. Also does anyone have the rear buggy shocks on their E-Maxx? Pics if anyone has them

I over think things sometimes and I'm still considering things.

DiFabio42 07.02.2008 03:40 PM

Jammin' X1 CRT's shocks are strong! I would Buggy/Truggy Shocks with Aluminum caps and Mediumish springs. IMO

them next to lowered street maxx with big bores

anything else sir ?

notnodak 07.02.2008 08:28 PM

That answers my question. There is no way I can use them as bypass shocks. It looks like if I'm going to keep the towers stock or RPM them I'd better get front buggy shocks and skip the rears or would rears be good and fit fine?

suicideneil 07.02.2008 08:41 PM

I'd probably say fronts would be better for stock type suspension- same length more or less as standard maxx shocks- the rears are a little long..

notnodak 07.02.2008 08:46 PM

How would these work or is it worth paying a little more for threaded?

notnodak 07.02.2008 08:49 PM

I think I'm going to get these

SpeedAssault 03.28.2009 01:47 AM

What about
Ofna LX One
103cm front 4"
123mm rears 4.75"

a lot more travel than losi 8 eight

Be nice if we all had a place to start and compare
List your truck weight
what shocks
What oil weight
front or rears ?

how you like them ?

notnodak 03.28.2009 03:12 PM

I have the eight CEN Matrix rear buggy shocks on now for a while and they are so much better then stock it's crazy. My freind has Proline shocks and these are as good or even better

BP-Revo 03.28.2009 08:03 PM

I have a full set of PowerStrokes that I am selling. They are mildly used (about 3-4 hours run time) and were just re-bled not long ago (probably 45 minutes of run time since the re-bleed).

PM me if interested. I have the original box and different pistons as well. They have 35wt oil in them right now and use the standard Red/Yellow spring set.

mkrusedc 03.28.2009 08:56 PM

Currently I have a 10.5# plus E-Maxx using 4 UE RacerX SuperShocks Black springs rear and Blue springs front. Getting ready to try 8 UE racerX shocks Red springs 35 wt oil front and Blue springs rear with 40 wt oil.

Those arms are on a maxx they are made by FlexTek LINKY

gtxracer 03.29.2009 02:52 PM

I ran Ofna Big Bores on both of my CRTs and they were the best shocks I've ever had, hands down.

Glad you like them,
But saying their the best shocks you ever had does not mean anything
If you have only used cheap shocks or plastic bigbores then that statement would mean something
What are you comparing to ?
Do you like them better than Losi8ight ?

Are you using the stock rear springs on these shocks? Are they about the same diameter as the traxxas shocks (fit in RPM a-arms no problem)?
Any pics?
