Bashing, Cops, Heart Attacks and Lost Wheels
Just thought I would share the entertaining evening I had with you guys.
I had to take the car in for annual inspection sticker after work tonight, so I got that taken care of and then boogied out to one of my old bashing grounds (huge park area by the Charles River up here in MA just outside of Boston). Was planning a long evening of bashing three of my models (even packed everything up the night before), but the evening started off on a low note with rain and drizzle coming down on my way out of work. This already set my expecations low for having a good time. Luckily by the time the car inspection was done the rain had stopped and the ground was drying up a bit. I went to a huge parking lot that was nearly empty and took out the E-Revo with a new set of the HPI Phatline tires on it - gearing was good, temps were in check - and then I lost one of the nuts holding the wheel on. Wheel went rolling across the lot (LOST WHEEL). Luckily I found everything except the pin for the hex nut, but that ruined that fun for the night after about 10 - 15 minutes. Decided to move up the road to a smaller parking lot that had a nice huge grassy area just off the road (BASHING). Grass was a little thick but took out the CRT.5 just to have some fun. Ran that for about 10 minutes and wasn't enjoying too much because the grass was thick and had a lot of moisture in it and I was just slipping around a lot. I put the CRT.5 back in my bag and took out the XB8 and just as I was bending down to plug in the battery 3 State Police trooper cars (COPS) and an unmarked Saab came outta nowhere and drove up on the grass and all of a sudden 4 troopers were coming forward towards me with their hands on the top of their guns in the holsters. They told me to put down what I had in my hands (remote control - see where this is going?), step back and put my hands where they could see them. I thought they were going to bust me for boogying around the park with an RC car, but they were way more serious. Asked me if I had any weapons on me, looked through my RC bag and checked my ID on their computer. Appears that some people driving by must have seen me with the remote, not seen the RC car, and in the evening dusk on a grey day called the police that someone was in the park waving around a gun. I just about nearly sh*t myself (HEARTATTACK) when this all went down. They were real cool once they knew what was going on and told my I could keep playing around if I wanted. I decided the best thing to do was pack my stuff up and go home :oh: - wished them a safe night and shook the whole 20 minute drive home. |
That's a great story. At least you got that out of the night even if you didn't get to have much fun driving. Also what controller do you have so I can make sure I don't get one.

Sounds like fun to me. I love messing with the local cops!!!
Since I own a auto body shop, and my employees are worth ____, I ended up painting a car late one night. I had the entire shop closed dow, and was sparaying a car. I heard someone banging on the wall (metal building) and figured it was a friend of mine. I walked out of a side door with a spray gun and a paint mask on and there was a cop with his gun drawn pointing it at me. He was shaking like a leaf. As soon as I saw him I ducked and split! He chased me a bit (he was a dognut style cop!) and I finally pulled the mask off and he saw who I was. It was very funny!!! Luckily I did not get shot. What de he think I was doing? Did I decide to break into the building and paint my car!!!!???? Some people... |
LOL..
My parents own a fabrication/tool store and it consumes a block, we have an alley that runs through the middle where we own each side.. I went blowing in there late one night after the alarm went off. The cop followed me and came after as i was running up the door try to suprize any one that was there. He did the same thing to me I had show me ID yada yada.. I guess I was running away from him and breaking into the store right in front of him to get away.. I dunno.. |
Nice story Vintage!

The nut coming off of the wheel happened to me 1 time and now I blue loctite the nuts on, I havnt lost one since...and I think I would have stayed and run the buggy, especially with the short run with the other vehicle...I lived in Lowell, Ma in the 80s and I knew some cops there that were pretty cool, I had a roommate who was an asst manager at a Burger King who when we would be out drinking we would go by the place after closing hours and he would fire up the fry and burger stations and some times cops would drive by and see the lights on and it was supposed to be closed and they would investigate and they knew my roommate and we would get them food and coffee and hangout with us... |
Wow! What weapon um Radio TX were you waving around? I guess some of them look like something out of a sci-fi movie. I need to paint mine tx orange.
I always think I look like a predator or perv being a 30 year old male alone driving by parks and schools looking for a rc driving spot without a lot of people. That sucks about your Phat line, I hate looking for small r/c parts that get lost, makes you look crazy swinging your head back and forth studing every little thing on the ground. |
Never in my days would I have thought something that extreme would happen driving rc's in the park. Luckily for me my run ins with cops while bashing has always been positive. Most just want to check them out and ask questions.
The only thing I hate is like bruce above said. I hate being in parks when kids start to follow you around. It's not bad when my wife and son are with me because I have an alibi but it looks damn strange when by myself and a hoard of children are following my every move. It makes me feel like the pied piper. I had one little girl follow me about a 1/8 of a mile across a large park one time. I finally went back to were the group was she belonged to and got their attention to get her. They hadn't even realized she was gone. Freaked me out because what if I wasn't a good guy? These are the freaky stories you hear about on the news. |
Yeah - kinda felt like a 33 year old nut playing with toy cars. I told this to you guys and my fiance, but I don't think I would admit it to the people I work with.
Radio was a Nomadio React - be careful, you'll shoot your eye out........ The Phatlines are really sweet - awesome traction and handling for street running - and no ballooning at all. I was using the 17mm adapters that come in the box with the pre-mounted HPI rims - they kinda suck but are easy enough to take off to o back to a 14mm hex if needed. Blue loctited all around first thing when I got home and found a spare pin in my parts bin. All in all I just have to laugh - I think I'll go back there this weekend. |
Wow, what a day!
Just gotta be careful. Some cops may be a bit nervous around people they suspect have guns and might shoot. Good luck, and bring your Kevlar vest just in case. |
Funny story in hindsight. People have been shot before in similar situations esp. if they were black.
I also had a wheel (same setup) come off on a speed run. Darn thing rolled probably over 500ft before bring stopped by a concrete barrier. |
Wow...
Put the Gun down. It's a fricken R/C Car! LMAO! |
Lol Awesome story, unfortunately my run in with the cops is usually urban riding, but they usually they just say get outta here :yipi: and we ride off  because we didn't get in trouble, :na:
|
"Stay back Coppers, i'll drive this bomb under your car!!!"
|
wanna see one of our run ins with the cops, type in Go Skateboarding day in youtube and check out the video in hotsprings, of the crazy cops itll have the most views. me and austin were still in the parking garage of the arlington hotel getting drinks out of the car and were going down to catch back up to everyone and they got arrested, not a fun weekend but when you see robbie bust and run off in the video we were standing right over there and he ran by us and we headed back for the damn car.
here is a link http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...q=go+skatebord watch the videos by toymachine16 (casey) very screwed up |
oh and if your wonder what happened they were in court for a long time and nothing legaly happen to the POS cop, everyone arrested got 40 hour of comunity service,
BUT karma has a way of coming back around that cop was working traffic in front of the horserace track and someone just plowed right through him and ran him over, i think it broke his plevis, both legs and some other stuff and, they are trying to prove the reason he got ran over was he had a deal go bad with some drug ring or somthing, so it turned out he really was a crooked ass cop. |
Thats awesome!!
ive gotten caught for speeding on a 35mph road with the Raze |

I guess I shoulda gotten a ticket for doing 40 in a parking lot too. |
Vintage....in today's day in age I am not surprised it happened to you...sorry you got harassed though. I sometimes run at work in the p-lot and/or track in the back pit area. Once in a while a cop will give me/us a hard time if he/she is new and we have to prove ten ways to Sunday that we work there. They usually feel pretty stupid when I go open the door to the shop and shut the alarm off.... Although they sometimes get upset when my friend runs his 1/8 onroad in the p-lot hitting almost 60mph and we yell at them to move.

A friend and I got harassed by a local cop a while back. We were running our stadium trucks out on the street in front of his house. Out of nowhere a cop pulled up in the middle of the street and he was down right rude. He yelled, "GET THOSE THINGS OFF THE ROAD,(pause, nasty look):diablo: YOU UNDERSTAND ME", or something along those lines. Then he just sped off after a few seconds. You would think that they would have more important things to do than harass people that are just minding their own business in front of their own house.
That's the only time I've come across a cop that was rude about rc stuff. Most cops think it's cool and say, "have fun", and drive off. Sorry to hear about your run in with the cops, were you using those big RC duffle bags? That may have been what they were worried about, people tend to be scared of the unknown ie: not knowing what you had in the bag. |
Pah, none of this would've happened if you had a nice thumb-stick radio like me....
