how can i make my esc run cooler

how to keep the esc cool

emaxx 3905

feigao 7xl

100a ebay esc http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/67G-Programmab...742.m153.l1262

stock emaxx spur what is the stock spur is it 64t or 68t and 22t pinyon

ive got a ubec and a fan

i have also taken the heat shrink off the esc

Add an extra cap - try to reduce gearing - change the motor - buy a better esc

bl-is-future 06.30.2008 02:51 PM

Or you could put it in the fridge and that will for sure keep it cool.
No what Arct1k said - there are many things you can do to keep an ESC cool just need to know what other variables there are.

azjc 06.30.2008 02:55 PM

run a higher turn motor and that ESC can handle a 5s pack...high voltage + low KV = cooler system but Feigaos will run on the hotside it the way they are designed. Good thing they are cheap and make sure your ESC timing is set at 0. You can try a Medusa motor they are better than a Feigao but not as good as a Neu.

5s with 10XL should be a decent system

Arct1k 06.30.2008 03:13 PM

Motor timing is normally for motor temp rather than esc temp...

I'm guess given choice of brushless components that this is a budget setup - the 7XL is probably the main problem - It's an Amp intensive "relatively" ineffecient motor... result - Hot esc and hot motor

I thought it was for the motor.....sorry...

wil a spur with moor or less teeth cool it down al so could some one tell me what this things mean in the manual AdvanceT (Timing): low, middle and high, default is middle and Freq=(PWM frequency)

thank you

Arct1k 06.30.2008 04:10 PM

I would go less (18) and try low timing to see if that helps with motor temp

petewalford17 06.30.2008 04:12 PM

the motor is ok but wil that cool the esc new to brushless but not rc

thank you

Arct1k 06.30.2008 04:17 PM

I think timing is motor but pinion should help both...

petewalford17 06.30.2008 04:19 PM

could i change the spur

Arct1k 06.30.2008 04:27 PM

no bigger spur - same effect

petewalford17 06.30.2008 04:29 PM

thank you all for the help

azjc 07.01.2008 02:56 AM

a smaller spur is gearing up and that will increase resistance against the motor/ESC causing heat

Arct1k 07.01.2008 06:34 AM

Sorry i need sleep!

Did you add a heat sink? Other then the heat issue, how does the controller perform?

petewalford17 07.01.2008 10:39 AM

it got a heat sink it performs well responsive just get the heat issue sorted and it should be good going to put my ubec on later.

petewalford17 07.01.2008 04:31 PM

i need any more help with keeping esc cool as its got very hot i mean fire my dad had to blast it with a co2 fire exstigirhser that got it cool but my maxx lived and mabery my spectrum receiver and my ace servo served.

Arct1k 07.01.2008 04:36 PM

Sorry but your best bet is to sell the 7XL and get a new 9XL for $60. Then invest the required $145 in a MMM when they come available again...

$200 (100GBP) will get you a solid setup... else I think you will just wii your money away...

petewalford17 07.02.2008 07:08 AM

also i need new lipo they are 5000mah 25c i guess i will just put the olde stuff back in my truck and get the monster max combo or maby traxxas release info on a emaxx brushless systerm and not a twin vsx

petewalford17 07.03.2008 10:32 AM

i will try but it did set on fire

petewalford17 07.03.2008 10:55 AM

ouch! that's a goner.

tc3_racer_001 07.03.2008 07:43 PM

how much did that cost in damages, if your lipos are dead! hopefully not too much, may have been worth getting the MMM after all, albeit impossible to obtain right this moment!
