The reason I enjoy RC-Monster forums
You guys need to check this thread out that's over on RCTech. It's the same kind of arragant ranting that you see with guys bashing on electrics.
http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthread.php?t=231705 So, I was posting to help RC4Fun with a buggy electric conversion and then a bunch of guys came on there and turned it into a rant about how much they hate electrics. Just about everyone that posted there had nothing useful to say and imho their comments were completely uncalled for. Here's a clip of what's going on over there. Quote:
I just recently joined over there, and now I know why RC-Moster is sooooo much better. Here, it's uncommon to see people bashing on others just because they have different ideas or preferences. Over there, it's almost as if they pride themselves on being rude and speaking without prior knowledge of the subject. (not everyone of course) Anyways, I've been trying to be the "better man" by ignoring all of the rude ill-intentioned comments but they're starting to push it too far. For example: Quote:
Be sure to read the post by TTR:EB4. It doesn't make any sense, and it sounds like he wants something bad to happen. I don't know about you guys, but the better my trucks run the happier I am. I don't get my thrills on knowing that a nitro engine could "blow up" at any moment or from the danger of the hobby. Needless to say, my stay over there was short and bitter but I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round. (btw, I'm still a member over there but I don't plan on visiting that site very often after that.) So, I just wanted to let everyone here know how much I appreciate the friendly environment here on RC-Monster, and I hope it stays that way. |
we will bash on each other but its all in a joking matter nobody takes it serious enough to be offended.....:-)

I feel your pain Motoman. I used to frequent the LHS and would always hear it from the hard core nitro guys. I eventually brought a brushless buggy up there and they were blown away. Needless to say they all bought mm systems and 10th electric buggies. Then I brought a 1/8 buggy conversion up there and they all wanted to buy it... |
i like both, if it was up to me, i'd pick brushless, just overall better, no buy fuel yada, its wait an hr and have a free rc run.

This quote from the other forum is priceless
"I need the VROOOM VROOOOOOM and smoke and stuff!" |
i posted :D
|
lol, love those quotes
|
I agree RCM is very cool, I am pretty new, but I've read so much valuable info the last few months, in no thread have I seen anyone get heated or offensive about anything. I guess this is just another Harley/Honda debate that might only go away if nitro goes to $300 a gallon. I owned only one nitro 1/8 buggy back in the mid 80s (think it was from Hobby Shack) with an OS 21, and it was utter crap. I think I had it like 3 weeks before I sold it and went back to the Tamiyas. I try not to use the word hate too often, but let's jut say I like nitro only a little bit more than I like Harleys.....

This one is my favorite:

If you need to rely on the audience to tell you that your truck has a problem because YOU didn't pick up on it then I would say that YOU are in need of a new hobby which will suit your ironically imperceptive nature. Batteries are just for flashlights...where the hell is this guy from? A cave? At least he agrees that we can beat him in a race with our supreme acceleration. It's just EVERYTHING else about electric R/C he doesn't like. He also stated that electric R/C is a trend, which would imply that he thinks it will fade out as time goes on.   Sorry for the rant, but BLIND IGNORANCE happens to be one of my buttons. :grrrrrr: |
Haha yeah numb. But the realism! Window shattering decibels!
The grown-up equivalent of baseball cards in the spokes. For real, the N heads must have seen a video on Youtube by now of a BL tromping a steamer, but still they deny. If you really do love nitro, fine, but to be ignorant enough to say nitros are faster... yeah back to that other debate I mentioned. Ahem. I digress. |
Luckily many voices of reason stepped in. It's amazing how uneducated some people are. As the old saying goes:
"better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt" |
I posted before but obviously never pressed the post button. There was a thread where we weren't that nice to a guy who asked about nitro crawlers.
If you love noise and smell get a baja, cheaper fuel too. Also when your up on the drivers stand you can't always hear how your car is running. One of the guys at the track on the weekend said my car sounded lean at the top and I had no idea cause I couldn't hear it on the drivers stand with all the other cars. I richened it up and re tuned the bottom end and it still ran fine so he was probably right. It was very cold and I hadn't richened it so it probably was lean. One of the reasons electric it so much better. There are guys at the track who have been racing for years and they all have RB engines and they still have issues with the engines. They love that though. I prefer to spend more time tweaking the car then spending that time just keeping the engine running. |
Hehe my fav quote from that linked thread: "I hate charging 3 batteries for something that doesn't even run on batteries" LMAO
AMEN. |
:sigh: Some people just don't get it. Nitro had its place in the days where you just couldn't get enough power/runtime/speed out of electric. Now with BL, lipos, etc, nitro is on its way out IMO. Oh, there'll always be a nitro or two kicking around for the "realism", but heck, even 1:1 cars are going towards electric. Just wait until batteries can pack the same amount of energy per volume as fuel and things will really boom IMO. Not to mention prices of fuel.
Tell the next gabbing nitro guy that if hates electric so much, he should replace all his servos and radio with nitro-powered parts because those are electric and batteries should be saved for flashlights. |

LOL Brian I can see it now...
"I have a pullstart on my transmitter! Top that you geeks!" "Also my servos do full transit in .00000008 second- but there's no proportional with a servo clutch, so it has its drawbacks" :) |
I have my share of being beating by nitro guys. RCTECH is one of the famous RC forum here Singapore and its the best way to get into the RC community. My previous RC here was a Savage X (nitro) and I sold it half the original price to get my MAXX1. A lot of guys PM'ed me saying Im wasting my money on BL setup. Even on the local truck, some nitro guys say..." NO ELECTRIC RC ALLOWED HERE" i usually answer, then your RX packs shouldnt be allowed, they just turn their back. That doesnt end there, apparently majority are buggy user here, convince me to let go of my truck. Apparently they dont get my forum ID. But I dont care that Im the only brushless truck driver here, I can bash anywhere.
Ohh i forgot to mention I'm a foreigner in Singapore (i think that's the reason im Alienated) |
"I don't want people to think i have a Radio Shack toy."? Who here has a radio shack toy that goes 60mph? A brushless car can sideline him anyday.

I just couldn't resist and had to reply to that thread. That whole nitro "racer" attitude really pisses me off. And honestly, I really can't understand the love for the noise. I love the sound of an uncorked V8 or turbo'd 4, but a weed wacker? I've heard lawnmowers that sound better than that. And when there's 10 of them on a track I just want to shove pencils in my ears!
|
My two cents:
I always find it quite entertaining / funny that then when a group of nitro guys together who know absolutely nothing about the power and simplification “E” talk smack, yet they are usually the one who come over to me at the park or wherever and ask all the questions and comment on how cool it is and he had know idea it worked that way, etc. I personally have never walked over to them and said wow is that a NITRO :oh: how cool, how fast does it go, how long of run times do you get, etc, etc. |
This is just to funny! I started out electric and picked up some nitro's just so I knew a little bit about them. Wanted to see how fast they were compared to my electrics. What the pros and cons were of them. I've had them a few month and I'm already getting tired of the hassle with tuning, the noise, and the exhaust burning my eyeballs out of thier sockets when I am trying to tune the the sobs. I still enjoy them at time cuz they are RCs but just love the way my electrics run. What's funny is I still get asked by people if my evo is gas when they see how fast it goes. I mean come on people! Gas engines make noise and smoke comes out of the exhuast. You can only hear the gears meshing on the evo and they want to know if it's gas.....
It does seem that the electric rc world is fill more with logical people that have the ability to think about what they say before they actually say it. We just know WATTS up and were not telling you nitro guys how good we got it either. Why bring the coyote into the chicken pen. |

Personally, I love the smell and sound of a nitro motor. It is pretty cool, kind of a more realistic race car
How ever, I WONT EVER buy another gas car. The power of a BL car is crazy, and going back would be like buying a Ferrari and then driving a geo metro. It would be stupid. |

People who are die-hard nitro fanatics are going to have to MOVE ON. Simply put.
This goes on to even full scale. Those stubborn gas burning guys of the past who think the noise and smell are what automotive enthusiasm is all about are going to have to get over it and move on! I'm sure they grew up with that stuff and are used to it, but the fact of the matter is that the basis of everything, the earth, can't take it anymore!! In 50 years they better damn well not expect to be driving a petrol burning machine, rather they will be driving probably an electric car, hopefully. |
You said it. :yipi:
|
I think I'll stick a baseball card in my rear wheel to make the nitro guys feel better about the noise of my truck.
What's not talked about is how many people start then quit the hobby because they hate the fiddly little nitro engines. I talk to plenty of people at work, or people see me out bashing, or wherever who used to have an RC but gave it up because they could never get it to run right and/or was too much trouble. They see my truck run, ask what it is, see its elec and fast and are blown away. If people like nitro, good for them. I driven a few, and there is a degree of fun w/ making a bunch of racket, but I'd never ever want to own one. I prefer BL in every way (including being able to go out at midnight and run it around after I'd been up tweaking it, and not spend the night in prison.) There will be a nitro class for a long while. But having an elec alternative is only a good thing and will grow the hobby and bring down prices even more. |
