What would you do (??)
Since my son got straight A’s in school I owe him, so today we reveiwed what his choice’s where for a reward
$500 cash he could blow on whatever he wanted Or This setup!. http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3213.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3214.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3215.jpg So what would you do now and or @ 12 years old and being put in the scenario? Would you take the 5 one hundred dollar bills for whatever (??) or the build (??) P.S. I was surprised by his response (remember he is 12) |
Id take the truggy, but I have $500 cash, and though worth more a kid wouldnt have resources to sell the truggy for profit LOL Knowing how greedy kids are these days (especially So Cal kids if anything like my Nephews out there) he took the $500 for an Iphone or a surfboard. On that note what in the he77 are you giving a kid $500 carte blanche for. I give the turds that live with me a friggin applebees dinner if they are lucky, then again they would never get straight As.
|
I would take the truggy but being 12 years of age would probably want the money to get Yu-Gi-Oh Cards
|
I'd take the truggy hands down. It is definitely worth more than 500 bucks.
Though, for a 12 year old, the lure of 500 bucks is very tempting. |
i hope you are getting him a motor to :)
|
I would choose truggy!>!>!>! lol that looks awesome with those badlands on there, and im pretty sure he already has a Nue for the truck he is just waiting on the motor mount from mike.
BTW shaun i forgot to tell yea i would put some loctite on the wheel nuts as i they dont make it all the way through the nylon portion on the nut. |
id take the truggy... well if he doesnt take it Can i have it? :D
|
Being 12 if he is at all into RC he would take the truggy. when i was 12 i was trying to find RC's i could afford. 500 really isnt that much for RC stuff. So it comes down to does he like RC or not. If he likes RC he will take the truck. Some kids just are not interested in RC.
|
I'll choose the truggy.
I was in the same predicament a few months back. My son(8 years old) wanted to have my supermaxx for getting straight "A's" but I didn't give it to him. Instead, I had him help me build his own supermaxx. I know his supermaxx is more than $500. Oh well. |
If I was 12 I would take the cash. It's going to be about 25 more years before I get into RC's.
If life was different and my old man was into RC's when I was 12 I would want to hang with him so I would take the rc. He was into chasing women and hanging at the local pubs. So I started chasing women until I could hang out inside the pubs myself. A couple of real nice rewards to choose from for straight A's. Way to go old man and congrats to your son also. That's great you guys can get you kids involved into rc. Something to do together and actually enjoy it also. |
If it were me I'd take the cash. Dad is into RCs, so you know trucks will always be around and I could drive them quite a bit. Now $500 to a 12 yo is like $1M, and you could do anything w/ that. win-win.

Now you talked me back into taking Dad's cash instead of the Rc. |
I would take the money and buy a cheaper 1/10th truck and use the leftover for whatever....
Dang... shaun.... if I show you my old report cards, can I have $500 too? Do you want to adopt a 28 year old kid? |
Quote:
I get straight A's too... I'll happily split the $500 between me and rschoi? :mdr: |
I'd take the money probably, and spend it on whatever I was interested in at the time.
Porn then... |
I would take the truggy, and probably would have at 12 too. Man that thing would have been a blast to bash in Asheville, NC where I lived when I was 12.
|
I never got anything for getting straight A's. I graduated with a 4.0, and my graduation present was my mom's favorite movie on DVD. I get no respect. (to be read in the tone of Dangerfield...)
|
From what you've posted about your kids and their interests they sound like great dedicated kids.
I would think it therefore fairly logical that he would want to continue to be interested in something his Dad was interested in - Hence I think he'd take the car so he can get Dad time... |
Def would take the money.
I was "allowed" to use my own money and buy a motorcycle - all I had to do was make all A's for the all of the 9th grade, Civics, Latin, Algebra II, English and PE. My Mom and Dad later admitted they would've never made the offer if they had really thought I would be able to do it, lol! Congrats on the hard work and excellent grades!! |

Did he say: "I'll take the truck and put it on eBay!"? Because that's what I would do! It's worth a lot more than $500.
-OR- Did he say: "Gimme the $500 bucks and I'll build a better one and race you!". |
so what did he ever do ?
|
Little bastard took the F&@#^@!!@# money!!:surprised: He knows he can beat on all of mine builds all he wants, so he went out a got another dam video system! the P3 (??) I think..
Hudge disappointment… but hay he’s 12 so I need to cut him some slack.. :mdr: Kids!... |

looking back to when I was a kid...I was heavily involved in Baseball and Football when I was in Jr High and High school and because of that I wasnt expected to get straight A's but the talk I got from the old man was "get good grades and I wont beat your ass" well I did average a 3.5 and I am alive now so I guess things worked out......LOL

At 12, I probably would have taken the money. I didn't really get a grasp of how much things were really worth untill I was 14 or so. I remember one Christmas (I think I was 10 or something) and I received 100 bucks from my grandma. I was so excited because I thought I had enough to buy a real car with it.
I've come to realize through the years though that gaming systems are pretty much a ripoff. If a PS4 ever comes out, that PS3 will be almost worthless... but BL power is eternal! :yipi: |

yep. ps3's are expensive, 300 buxs to run around? haha. i have over $2000 worth of audio video crap in my room that i never use. kinda pisses me off, kids get money and crap for getting good grades, my mom nor dad buys me ZIP. i bout my own 2 snowmobiles, my four wheeler all my games, my laptop, they only buy me like games around christmas, idk how i afford all this with no job

How did you buy those things if you have no job and your parents dont buy them for you either?......I was just wondering.... |
