Dremel: Corded, Cordless??
I've been doing fine with my cordless 10.8v but I've heard a lot of complain about it (here locally). I thought I just check with you guys what kind to you own so I can get the am idea what the general public think. :intello:

i have a craftsman corded one, but it was givin to me as a b-day present so i had no control over it obviously
I have a corded one but some of the guys have cordless ones they use at the track and they are very handy for that. What are the complains about the cordless ones?
I have owned both and the cordless one just lacks so much power, it won't stay consistant for very long. If you are just doing a quick cut on something the cordless is fine but any work that requires more than a minute of usage you will be dissapointed.

My cordless one was lame. :(
Mine is cordless
I use a Dremel Stylus, it lasts for a looooooooong time! Still if I am going to be doing alot of cutting or what ever, I use my corded one |
I use a corded one as well. I experienced the same loss in power when I used a cordless. I never have to take the dremel anywhere though so having to plug it in doesn't bother me at all.
corded with the flex shaft attachment always on ! I had a cordless one before they were lithium powered it blew bad so I stuck with corded. I just got a 259+ piece accessory pack from Harbor freight for $12.99 today LOL
I have both and I like the corded better. It's more powerful than the cordless.
It depends on how much dremeling you are going to do away from AC mains and how long your dremeling session will last. Usually, when I need to dremel, I'm at my workbench and the session is fairly long (long enough that I have to let it cool for a while), so I definitely need a corded one. A cordless won't have the power or longevity I need.

corded. but wait... if i can mod a dremel to run of a neu and FP 4-6s 5000mah we may have a winner. Any one at dremel listening?
Like others the cordless ones just lack in power and life. I have the XPR (the most expensive one) and it is the most expensive for a reason. I have the attachments for the saws and routers and it has yet to bog on anything i throw at it. |
Get the cordless one and strap a 3s 5000 pack to it! Then at least the runtime will be A BIT better.
I just have a cheap one that have been using now for around 4 years. I was looking at getting a cordless one but couldn't see the point. Since I renovated the garage I have powerpoints everywhere and a could right next to my rc work bench
I nearly bought a cordless lithium power. I'm glad I didnt now reading all this. I though 'hell yeah, lithium power!' but then just bought the 400 series digital one. Hasn't failed me yet. though IMO isnt all that much better quality than my old home brand $20 dremel-like 'rotary tool'. I got a few attachements for the dremel (vice etc) that just seem poor quality. What use is a plastic vice?
I use a corded one, but have used the cordless one somebody gave my Dad as a gift. Doing anything that requires some time, the cordless one's power seems to fall off. I'll stick with the corded one.
I use a cordless driver though - a 3v Lithium and its amazing. I've had it over a year, use it all the time and only charged it twice. There is no speed or torque difference with it fresh off charge stand or using it for couple of months. |
Mine is corded, but I think I need to invest in a cordless. Twice this summer at the track I noticed I had stripped screws and I had to go ask the guy who brings a dremel and a generator if I could borrow it.
For a primary dremel, I would say corded is the only way to go, for a travel, or light use, cordless should work. If I have any issues with the cordless (once I buy it) I will let you know. |
Sounds like you need some decent wrenches... I've never stripped a screw
corded. i have had both and every one is right it dies fast and wen you apply power to the bit by using it to keep the speed up it drains the battery quickly. I use a roto zip with a 3ft flexable shaft that acts like a flexable dremal tool only it had a tad more power.
