How is Plettenberg's Service?

I only ask, as I have a maxximum that has an 1/8 shaft. I would prefer a 5mm shaft, mainly cause I have broken a few 1/8 shaft motors (hacker, novak, etc)

I read here at some point that plett would change the rotor over to 5mm, just wondering if anyone here has had that done...

BL_RV0 07.24.2008 03:00 PM

Don't quote me on this, but I'd guess its on par with Lehner's service.

bdebde 07.24.2008 03:11 PM

It takes a while, and I am sure they will charge you full price of a new rotor (plus labor).

lincpimp 07.24.2008 03:28 PM

Probably not worth it. I guess I will find something else to do with that motor...

Anyone want to buy it?

Arct1k 07.24.2008 03:39 PM

$10 and a case of beer?

How about $15 and a case of cognac...

I'll trade for the motor: a box for an iPhone, a broken magnifying glass, and the game "Catch Phrase"? As an added bonus I'll throw in 3 purple crayons, if you write a 4 paragraph essay explaining how much you love hairy legs. Deal?

Heck, I'll get you 3 cases my next week! Deal?!

snellemin 07.24.2008 04:10 PM

Wish I had the money for the Plettenberg. 1/8 shafts is all I use so far.

So nobody here has ever sent a plett back for repairs...?

What's_nitro? 08.01.2008 12:06 AM

Instead of sending it back, why don't you just order a new rotor with the 5mm shaft from them and install it yourself? Then you only need to pay for the parts, and wait for shipping one-way.

BL-Power 08.01.2008 01:22 PM

I've already sent a damaged Maxximum to Plettenberg, ilpufxit had sent it to me from Canada and then i've sent it to Plettenberg directly from Germany. They were very friendly and told me within 3 days that the motor was completely damaged an a repair was impossible.
I could also ship it to Plettenberg directly from Germany for you, PM me if you are interested!

_paralyzed_ 08.01.2008 08:56 PM

BL-Power- that's a nice offer, that's why I love this forum, so many like minded individuals. Linc- let 'er buck man! I've only snapped shafts in e-maxxes or 1/8 scale. Surely you've got bigger motors for that stuff. Throw the pletty in a micro-t and do some speed runs!

I have.

Ran my Big maxx twice on 4s with MM, about 15 min total (about 130 max temp), and 3 times on 6s with MGM about another 15 min total (barely even warm), and the rotor demagnetized. I figured they would repair or replace it under warranty, since it was a high end motor and FD replaced a nemesis blue 8XL after demagetizing in less than 30 min no question asked. They blamed the problem on the MGM controller, there was no way it could have been defective ("each motor 100% checked before leaving factory"), and would not cover it under warranty. It would have cost nearly $200 to have it repaired (rotor, labor, return shipping), but after some begging and pleeding the guy checked with Mr. Plettenberg and I managed to get the price cut in half.

I would just order up the rotor, it will be expensive enough.

After examining the 2 motors, the maxx w/o fan is different than the maxx with the fan. The bearing recesses are completely different. So the 5mm shaft will not fit in the 1/8 shaft maxximum.

I may, looking at the motor, it apears to have a demagged rotor, and the windings look to be toast. I appreciate the offer, and may take you up on it, should I damage theother 2 pletts I have.

The plett weighs more than the micro t! It may go in my hyper pede, on 4s. That would be a beast!

Thanks for the info, very interesting. Sounds like the Plett guys may be a bitt arrogant...
