Savage motor mount
Hi
I have been talking with serum over on another board and told me to come here, nice place! I want to make my savage brushless badly but I need someone that can fab me a motor mount, I will glady pay whatever. I really like the one you made serum but at this point id take anything. Thank for any help! |
Hi Savage03!
Welcome to this forum, we will do our best to answer the questions you've got! There is a kit available here in the states, sold by rcboyz., streetprice is app. 160-170 dollars, it includes a special driveshaft, batterieholders, motorplate and i even thought it included a pinion. (MOD1 5MM bore) i don't know if this price is an honoust price though, here in europe the streetprice is app. 110 dollar, incl 19% VAT. What do you want? how fast do you want to go? are you a wheeliemaniac or do you like it to run low, fast and nimble? what's the speed you want to achieve? If you gave me some input on those questions i could help you make a list of needed goodies. Mike can actually hook you up with anything you need to make a BL savage. |
Hi again Serum
I have seen the rcboyz kit and think its way over priced and I love your motor mount! You already told me what I need far as the esc and motor, 7xl and 9920 was it? I cant stand wheelies! So I want some torque and speed, Im a basher so need a mixture of everything. Far as batteries, whats best? Do c cells or lipo's? |
Well, i don't know if you've seen the 6S video of an 8XL on a savage?
if you don't like wheelies, get a low motorplate! a drawing is published here on the forum somewhere. (incl the sizes etc) The good thing about the lipoly's is that you don't stress the drivetrain as much as with the heavier batteries. But i don't know if you're on some kind of budget? your looking at a rough 260 dolars per set of batteries (lipoly) and i don't know if you've got a decent charger? |
If your talking about your video, yes I have seen it along with a few others. So go with the 8 instead of the 7 then? Yes I want a low motor mount, I will pay anyone to make me one!!!
Which lipo's are you talking about buying? $260 is no problem.. |
It are FMA/Kokam 3200's i'm talking about.
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...&threadid=1338 this is the thread, the truck in my movie was powered with 16 GP3300's |
Ah yes I saw that one, very fast
|
So you know what setup to get!
The motorplate is rather easy to make. Just use an aluminum L-profile and the drawing from Joeling..! |
Yea looks easy but I just dont have the resources for it, easier for me to find someone to cut me one.
Where you get those batteries from? He ran 2 packs right? BTW I have a ICE charger... |
This motor right?
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...ao5408L&cat=36 |
No, it's the 8XL, that one is the 8L. please contact mike about this, i thought he had them in stock. Those two packs are 2X 3S packs= 6S (S means serial connected, so 6S = 3.7VX6=22.2Volts.
I think Mike knows where to get those batteries from, please contact him for it. |
Will do..
Is the store located in the US? when hooking up the lipo's what will I need? Also I recall you mentioning something about a voltage cutoff? |
Here is the truck as it is now that will eventually get converted.
The tvp's are made by a friend, http://www.twisted-toys.net/ THeir extended an inch and half, 1/2 in the front and 1' in the rear. The steering servo is mounted down low under the MGT tank so I could have a plate where the tank is for maybe placing a nice lipo? In other words I have lots of room compared to a stock savage! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...t/P1010312.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...t/P1010307.jpg |
Savage03, you know casey personally? I ordered a set of LCG and extended TVPs from him too (its 4mm 7075 Al) and fe other custom parts including the BL motor mount. But he is too bz i guess. Do you know where is he now?
|
Yes I know him personaly, just talked to him over the weekend. He is in the middle of moving to a new house and hasnt got his internet hooked up at the new house yet. How did you order a bl mount? He hasnt even started working on a kit yet....
|
Any idea what this BL motorplate is going to look like?

Welcom aboard there savage o3.
I like to see the truck converted as well. Do you like the longer version better over stock. Hope you luck on conversion. Keep us posted to. PLEASE! |
Serum, the mount I want is YOURS! lol any chance you could post a drawing?
Mothman, we talked about you actually, he is gonna try to start on this soon as he gets settled but I think he was gonna try to contact you this week to touch base, he hasnt forgot about you or anything. I mijght be gong up to see him the weekend after the one coming up. I love the extension, it eliminated alot of wheelies! When I put the pixcco .27 in it tho it would wheelie again! I really wanna do this brushless tho, just so much simplier and cleaner! |
Hey savage03. Serum has a drawing of his with the measurements on it. I try to find it. I think I remember.
|
I to late to edit. I did find the link. Here you go. Has the diagram of the mount.

This is the mount I would love to have!

OH okay. sorry savage can't help you there. I don't remember having a diagram close to that one. I tried.
|
Dont think I can talk Serun into putting up a drawing of his mount :(
|
It's no problem to post a drawing for me! but i don't have it..
I could make a drawing pretty easy.. Mike has got some drawings i made on the plate, but his mailbox is too large to dig them up.. (i lost them in a computercrash (raid 0)) I don't know the exact sizes anymore, but i can make it pretty easy, because i know the sizes of the gears etc. You want me to make one? But perhaps someone is going to sell them in a matter of time.... ;) |
If you could that would be great! Im am not sure if my friend is going to sell them any time soon and Id like to get started on this. Plus I still think your plate is better looking than the other one, just my preference, not knocking the other one.
|
I see that as a compliment!
Thanks! |
Hi Serum
Any luck with the drawing? No rush just curious  |
No, My guess is that Mike is able to get them in a month or so.. (not sure, not promising anything, just guessing)
|
You mean mike is going to sell them? If yes then I might be interested to have one..
|
Does any one making a mount yet?
I sure could use one of these right now. I would like it to fit a 22 series motor though. |
RCBoyz had one listed a while back. I tried to order it, but they said they were not in stock. It was quite expensive for a mount like $265 american. included pinion also. ( i don't know why it included a pinion). Well a few months go by, like at least 5, and they call me. They were doing some warehouse cleaning and found one. maybe worth a try.
I just fabbed mine. It is not real pretty but very functional. I just wish I could mill the slots better for motor positioning so I could change pinions easier. |
No, it was about 160 US dollars, i can get them here in europe for less.
And perhaps you guys can get them in the US some day too. I will Email Mike about it. That kit is no good for a 2250 though. |
Well I designed up on emachine last night. I emailed it to mike to see what he could do for me. I may start on a set of battery trays to. I can get a mount made up for under 50. It would be hefty 7mm thick. I amy hadd a few holes to something to cut the weight down. I have to see how it goes.

On my truck I just cut out the battery mounts out of an emaxx chasis and screwed them into the chasis. Works awesome I love it.
|
2 Attachment(s)
Attachment 1181
Attachment 1182Well i just receive my motor mount today. It looks great. Here is a pic of it to. |
Nice one Leroy!
did Mike made you one? |
Yep mike hooked me right up. I did make the hole to small for the bearing on the motor. I had to dremel that out some. Just a small problem. I got the 2250 mounted on it last night. I going to put a brace on it to. The motor is kind of heavy. If things go right I may see about a test run on it. Just have to find an esc for it.
|
I need a mount. Its either brushless e-revo or E-savage. And I'm thinking e-savage. but I need a mount that will work with the FLM ext. LCG chassis.
Any ideas? |
