Latest Money Pit! The XT8

I got the Truggy from a RCM family member :intello: and it’s in better shape than I expected, but since it new to me I did what I and everybody else would do, I stripped it down and gave it a complete overhaul, changed out the oil in the diff, re-lubed the bearings, changed out the front and rear caster & toe bushing to better handle my environment and incopreated the newest craze (Added (4) XRay 808 buggy Shocks)

It will have the following drive train / electronics
• Neu 1515 1Y F
• MGM com-pro ESC 8s compatibility
• 5s or 6s (still TBD) I need to PM (Cornolio, Rschoi_75 & Sower) for advise on this one
• JR Z9100T steering servo

So here is where I'm at with my new toy:

I just opened a new bottle of wine (for encouragement) and with any luck I should have it back together sometime in the AM hours. I'm trying to complete it before I take off for Vacation, we’ll see if that happens (?)

Anyway,
Thanks for your time team and have a great weekend / what left of it!..

Shaun.

Looking good Shaun! Can't wait to see the results. You burn thru these builds like nothing I have ever seen. You could finish off my projects in a month, easy...

I will never be done:diablo:

TDC57 08.03.2008 02:18 AM

To each his own. I palyed with 4 cars today, and sold a bunch of stuff..

The gtp got a new front diff and some play time. Put better shocks and another motor on the crt.5, and possibly cooked the mm??!!

Also got some time in on a rustler vxl and a pede...

Need to yank the tranny out of the new emaxx and get to work on the center diff..

Sounds like fun!!!

TDC57 08.03.2008 07:02 AM

Please…. :mdr:
All of your project are supper cool and a enjoyment to read a and follow along.. :intello: I just don’t have your finical support, your 600 Sq Ft shop with Mill, and or time you put fourth in the hobby that you do or your intelligence. I'm close but so are a lot of people, No one is Linc and we would have it any other way!..:na:

TDC57 08.03.2008 07:08 AM

Ok so forward progress continued until I some how managed to drink two bottles of wine over a 6 hr period of restoration. I'm tired and out of wine some I'm calling it a night.. But it’s starting to look like a Truggy again..

Thanks for your time team and have a great one

Shaun…

shaun you now offically have the nicest collection of "luxury" conversions........just awesome man thats all i can say, you should have the mount for the GS end of this week i hope. your gonna have to post a pic of the whole collection after you have this one done.

MetalMan 08.03.2008 01:01 PM

It turned out well! I wasn't expecting to seen an update so soon. If I may make a suggestion, you may want to position the shocks so you get more travel, especially in the rear. That will improve the truggy's ability to handle jumps.

jnev 08.03.2008 03:12 PM

Looking good! So how many trucks are you up to now...? The Revo, 2 808 buggies, XT8, GS truggy, and now a Slash? You're just flying through these builds... Does the wife know of all your new purchases lately.

entjoles 08.03.2008 07:24 PM

MMMMMMMM....Big Bores:yes:

glad you like it , looks great when its cleaned up!

now i just need to decide if i will buy a new truck or get rid of the rest of my stuff:gasp:

big greg 08.03.2008 08:01 PM

jayjay283 08.03.2008 11:32 PM

cornolio 08.04.2008 12:49 AM

WOW!!arent you coming to the next bash?its gonna be a lot of fun running with you and rschoi.all the same truck and same motors.lots of info to share.ive been running mine at rev for the past 2 weeks and having fun with it.its a very tough truck considering i havent been at a track in a looong while.nothing broken but a lot of things loosening up on me.specifically: center cvd(twice),center dif mount(stripped),cvd(lost pin).battery tray(flew after a hard landing),and my MMM shutting down twice for no reason at all.good thing it powered up again after a few minutes.but like i said, nothing broke

Thanks for the kind words and the Vote Ross, but I thinking that Dafni gets that title..

I’ve got several bodies out for painting now and should have quite a nice squadron of builds in a few weeks, I'm defiantly looking forward to running them all at once..

NO worries on the mount, I know you and Mike will not let me down..

Thanks for your time Sir and have a great one..

P.S.
We are still waiting for you to post vids of your track experiences

I love this hobby!, you truly get out of it what you put into it and from the TeamXray forum the big bores are just what the doctor ordered.. We’ll see if it was worth the $100 bucks..

Thanks Jay... Yes I was so impressed with rschoi build i had to have one.. I'm hoping at our next bash to give one to other member and doing a head-to-head comparison. It kind of hurts knowing what I spent on my GEVO and this one when it's complete. My GEVO is more than twice the costs, I highly doubt it's twice the build ??

we’ll see

Have a great week Jay..

Shaun.

Nope I can’t make it on the 17th, (sorry) I'm packing up the family and going camping / RV’ing for a couple of weeks. I'm defiantly looking forward to driving it with you and Rschoi I’ll just need to wait until next month..

That’s GREAT to hear your going out and racing it at the Rev..:intello: That place is way cool and will defiantly abuse your build and your got your MMM back online (that must have been scary!) and the fact that nothing has broken yet it quite impressive..

It’s great to hear from you cornolio, thanks for stopping buy and have a great week..

P.S.
Are you running 4s / 5s or 6s in your build (?)

TDC57 08.04.2008 03:43 AM

Well forward progress still continues:

With any luck I’ll have it completed tonight / before we leave on holiday..

ffactory666 08.05.2008 04:30 AM

Once again a nice clean build .

I asked in your 808 thread but you might of missed it , what is that receiver box you are using and how is it mounted to the servo mount ?

rschoi_75 08.06.2008 11:47 PM

Nice Shaun.... its a beauty. Are you going to bring it to the next bash?

As for voltage... I'd say stick w/ 4s for now. You can borrow a 5s pack to try out if you want, but it may be too many rpms based on what others have experienced. I can ship one to you and you can give it back when we see each other at the bash.

big greg 08.07.2008 12:20 AM

wow what a guy, lol you can ship me some packs, lol jk, i wish i was down there to meet you guys~!

feistyacorn 08.11.2008 03:16 PM

Hi Shaun!

That is one awesome looking build! I love the 808 shocks and the bad land tires on the beadlocks. I was thinking about picking up a pair of badlands for bashing (once I finish my truck). My only problem is that you have to have a speed control to drive the truck. Mabe next year I will have a MMM.

What MGM is that? I like how it is the "cube" design. Where did you get it from? I saw that RCM sells MGM, but I wasnt sure if it was the cube design. The thought of getting a 16024-3 vs. MMM has crossed my mind several times. Do you still have any MGM for sale?

I noticed that you have a BEC. I was wondering if it was necessary to use one with that speed control or of there is another reason.

Sorry about that one, I'm using the Traxxas 3905 waterproof RX box, it was a whooping $4.50 on ebay..

Have a great one and thanks for the compliments 666

Hay Rich, thanks for the offer that’s kind of you!.. But I have a 5s and ran it last week at the lake on it!, couldn’t keep the dam front end down on the ground.. It runs much better on 4s.

I'm looking forward to hooking up soon, I'm in your neck of the woods next week, mybe we can get togther if our schedules allow (??)

Thanks for your time Sir and your compliments..

Have a great one

Feisty!.. What happen innnnn Sir..
Thanks for the complements big guy.. I do love the badlands and they worked outstanding at the camp grounds and the lake.. Good luck with your build, they are fun to work on assuming you can find the time, money and parts..

The MGM is a 16024 it’s good for 8s or 24 cell, it works real good and was purchased off a fellow family RCM member, No sorry I don’t have any controllers for sale at the time, I’ve got two into MGM for software updates but I also have two builds waiting for them.. I'm (like everybody else) am waiting for my MMM that was paid for months ago, so I feel your pain, but I do own (4) MGM controllers and can vouch for them 1000%. Worth every penny..

Thanks so much for your time and have a great one Sir

Shaun.

TDC57 08.13.2008 09:49 PM

First Run..

First run on the XT8 Truggy.. :yipi:

I took it out camping with the family and had a blast until the pinion gear fell off (RRrrrr) but I did lean a couple of valuable things.:oh: Dam this thing hauls butt on 5s (just a wheelie machine), it handles and runs much better on 4s and defiantly takes a beating!.. So if you have the time check out the Video of its first run on 4s, no video of the 5s sorry, I didn’t think it was anything special, just wheelies at all speeds, dam front end was never on the ground..

cornolio 08.13.2008 11:18 PM

nice vid.need your help on this,i always bottom out on jumps, keeps slapping the rear chassis to the ground.im already using losi 50wt all around,no leaks.i dont know what else to do.thanks

TDC57 08.14.2008 12:16 AM

What springs are you using and what did you set your rebound / damping at (?) are you using the 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5 shocks valves (?)

I'm using 40w in the rears and 45 in the fronts, but I'm also using (4) of the 808 shocks so my setup is a little differnt then yours.

Hope that helps (?)

Best of luck Sir..

cornolio 08.14.2008 12:39 AM

im using the stock blue springs.1.4 valves.the fronts are doing fine but the rears are not doing to well.im a newb on building shocks.

TDC57 08.14.2008 12:43 AM

What did you set your rebound / damping at (??) I've got mine set at about 45%.

You might want to try a little lighter oil or go to 1.5 valves and defiantly set you shocks damping..

TruckBasher 08.14.2008 12:46 AM

Nice Shaun, I almost bought this XT8 at my LHS but too expensive for me at this point. Like you said, need time and money...

Great vid too...

TDC57 08.14.2008 12:57 AM

Thanks TB.. It really is a great Truggy and I thank Rich (AKA) rschoi_75 for introducing it too me.. But unfortunately like everything in this hobby time and money are a necessity. The good thing is X-Ray will be coming out with a NEW model in 09, maybe you’ll be able to jump on that (?)..

Have a great one Sir..

Shaun.

TruckBasher 08.14.2008 01:01 AM

Maybe..we'll see. The good thing on XRAY is that my LHS carry everything even the smallest part so replacement/spare wont be a problem but I am still yet to make a move on getting XRAY's. I have M18, if that is considered a small start

TDC57 08.14.2008 01:21 AM

I would LOVE TO GET a M18... you lucky Guy... that is one RAD little truck!!! What motor are your running in it (?) did you post it here and I missed the thread (?) if so please let me know, I would love to see and read about it!!!

and How in the hell do you have a LHS that caries X-Ray parts (??) i have to order everything online! again you lucky guy.. :intello:

TruckBasher 08.14.2008 05:21 AM

Ohhh not the M18MT just the M18 on-road, although I wish I got the truck instead. just that time when I was buying they dont have stock. Also my friend wanted me to try the on-road but I never really got the hang of it. Still prefer off-road :diablo:

Here in SG most RC drivers have buggy or on Road cars. Thats why most LHS carry XRAY, Ofna/Habao etc. But im unlucky that I buy most of my Traxxas parts online we got LHS carrying them but not all parts and still need to order, so online purchase is still faster specially with an extra on shipping.

The M18T Pro looks nice, CF chassis I might get it with a mamba micro pro but it will ahve to wait need to finish my E-Revo :whip:

I would have to agree with the awesomeness of the m18t. You should most certainly get one. I have a m18t pro and I love it. I have the 8000kv mamba micro with 2c and it is insane! One of these days I can start a thread on it. I just figured that there wouldnt be that much of a interest on this forum. Even if your LHS dosent carry it would be a great truck to own.
