1st Brushless Conversion
Hi,
New to the forum but not new to rc. I am working on my 1st brushless conversion - went with the Jammin CRT.5 I have the RC-Monster electric motor mount on order (should be here tomorrow) but I am having a hard time trying to figure out what brushless setup to use. Our track is pretty big but but its technical so blazing speed will not be required. I was thinking about running something with low kv like a Traxxas Velineon. Do you guys think the Velineon has enough power for the CRT.5? Here is a quick pick after I stripped everything out of the RTR CRT.5 http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...i/IMG_2216.jpg |
what voltage do you plan on running?
|
I was planning on running 11.1v packs.
|
It'll run hot but it'll work.

With 3s, I don't think you can beat a Mamba Max ESC with external BEC and a Feigao 9L motor. This will give you speeds in the mid thirties depending how you gear it, and should run well for you. If you have the money though, go try to go with a Medusa or Neu motor. Neu motors are the best motors around, but the price also reflects this... The Medusa motors are kind of in between the Feigao and Neu in terms of performance and price.
|
Nice little truck
Can't go wrong with the Medusa especially for the price and i havn't heard one bad thing about them. |
The only reason why I was going to try the Traxxas brushless setup is because the LHS I work at has a few in stock. The Mamba Max ESC is on backorder thru our distributors until late August. I want to get this truck on the track ASAP.
What Medusa motor do you guys recommend? |
The medusa 50mm versions will work best for your setup.
The velineon on 7.4V will run cooler most likely, but you just won't have nearly the power that a 9L could give you on 3S. If you want to spend an extra 40-50 bucks or so on a medusa, it is well worth it. |
I went with the Velineon system. All that is left is mount up the battery box and install the Rx.
Can't wait to see what this truck can do on 3S !! http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...i/IMG_2355.jpg |
Looks nice but can you get a body on that thing? :mdr:

Joe the truggy looks great, is that the stock chassis
|
Thanks! It is the stock chassis that comes with the RTR. It is extended to fit full sized servos. I made a battery tray and took it for its 1st run today. The VXL is an animal on 3S!!!!
Very happy with this choice. A 1/8th scale conversion is next on my list. |
doing my BEC CRT to brushless ordered the kit from Aldo think UPS lost it  still not here, thinking of getting the CC mamba monster esc combo, comes with a BL motor and go with a 5S lipo
|
Do you have a tracking number for the kit?
Mamba Monster looks hot. We have the new Novak HV in stock at the store. Swamper + 5s = The MAN !! |
no tracking number, Aldo looked it up last week and said the UPS F'd up and it should be here Monday but never showed up hope it's here today if not I'll let him know and see if he can kick some UPS butt :whip::whip:
|
Nice crt Sir, by any chance do you know the weight of it, pre-vxl system or après ?
|
I don't have a scale to weigh it. Sorry.

I believe that is called the Pro chassis. * Lookin' good Joe |

I have to move the ESC location. I put it right above the center diff with double-sided tape but it only held up for 3 packs. Do you guys have any suggestions on where to mount the ESC? A 1/8th scale conversion will def be next. |

Check his rig again, thats the new vxl with the wires direct soldered. Traxxas listened after 4 years and fixed it lol |

I made a plate that attaches on top of the center diff to hold my esc and rx. The location isn't the problem, it's the double sided tape! make a plate out of aluminum and transfer the mounting holes for the top of diff onto it and drill them out, then put the screws through everything. I used velcro and a zip tie for my mm esc and just velcro on the rx. 20+ runs and no problems!

My current setup with the stock chassis just wasn't working out. Picked up the RC-Monster brushless conversion chassis kit - the best mod you can do to the CRT.5 in my opinion.
The Orion Carbon 11.1v 3200 was pretty much made for this battery tray. No more ghetto setup for me. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...i/IMG_2419.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...i/IMG_2420.jpg |
Looking good nitro_joe. Where did you get the battery tray from?

LOL - I am in my workshop thinking of what I can sell to fund a 1/8th scale conversion. The Hyper 8 in the store is calling me :intello:
|
bring it on B. Sell the crawler.

The brushless CRT.5 is probably my favorite car to run at our track. Here are some pics from last weekend.
