My New Big Baby "Pics Inside"
Just ordered an MCD Monster Truck clone from ebay. I got it for $575 shipped to my door step. All the parts are compatible with the real MCD MT at half the cost. Ive heard mixed reports about it so I decided to give it a try for myself. It should be here somtime within the next 5-11 days. Ill let you guys know what happends.
Here are some pics of the clone... http://www.oversizerc.com/UserFiles/...%20monster.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...nRCU/mcd-2.jpg Now here is a pic of the real MCD MT... http://www.kooltoyz.co.uk/images/truckred.jpg Let me know what you guys think. Im really excited to receive it.:yipi: |
its funny. when i clicked this thread i was expecting to see pics of an actual baby.
anyways the truck looks like it should be indestructable wish i had the money to go 1/5 they have always interested me. |
I too jumped ship to 1/5 gasser. I got the RedCat Rampage. It is mostly a MCD clone also. Suspension arms are different though.
Did you get the 4WD truck? Have you heard about running Coleman Camp fuel instead of gas? Runs just as good with no stink. I did run my brushless LST2 today and once yesterday. |
How is the quality of those Redcat's? I've seen a few buggies/truggies show up on our local craigslist for really low$$$.
|
he got the 2wd model,
ryan, whats your fascination with quotation marks? |
hmmm takedown is that 4wd? If so i may be doing a conversion this winter myself.

Its the 2wd version. The 4wd version is $100 more but you can convert it to 4wd for less than $90, go figure... I plan on getting the 4wd upgrade kit right when we get our first good snowfall. Then 4wd will serve a good purpose for me.
|
Ill be sure to get a video with my friends XTM Grizzly 25cc 2wd MT. His name is Pedebeater here from the forums. Here are a few pics of his...

can you convert these 1/5 to be brushless?

Not bad for a new truck. Their 1/5 scale stuff is new. Only JetPro is making pipes for them.
The stock GWS servos are junk. The dog bone pins come loose but not bad over all. http://mysite.verizon.net/tbtjsnyder...up%20small.jpg |
Please be sure to snap some shot of that one when it comes in.. what are the dimensions (?) and how much does that bad boy weigh (?)..
COOL NEW TOY!! |
Ill be sure to get many pics of the box it comes in and little corner shots of the truck. No Im just kidding, Ill get plenty of good pics and vids of it running. The dimensions of the truck are 32in "long" x 21in "wide" x 18in "tall" and weighs 29.7lbs.

WOW..:surprised: :party::party: |
The stock pipe on these arent that great so I decided to put the good ole trusty x-can billet pipe on my list of what to buy. Here it is- http://www.davesmotors.com/store/product1086.html
I will be getting the black can with the optional 6 inch black exaust tubing leading out to the back so that I dont get the gas all over the chassis... |
Should add a couple mph and alot of low end power.
|
The x-can is a high-end pipe... NO TORQUE. (As I was told by a baja owner)
|
Its a low end pipe... I dont know who you heard that from but id doesnt add much speed at all. Only 2-3mph is whats said.
Heres a quote directly from daves motors site... "The X-Port gives the X-Can canister type muffler a header effect and in turn gives the X-Can better low end power than a standard muffler." |
Test it with both. I'd assume that the stock one is a complete piece of crap, so I don't know if it'd even be a comparison.
|
Judging by the vids the stock pipe isnt as bad as it could be. It will still burnout and do donuts but with the xcan the low end really increases a substancial amount. Pedebeater is running a Bennett pipe "xcan knockoff pipe" and compared to his stock pipe the low end power increase was outstanding. Well worth the $80.
|
hmmm i may be on the 1/5 scale train pretty quick
|
BL-is-future, have you ever driven a 1/5 gas?
|
yep a baja rtr and loved it. Just the size is amazing. Only thing that was holding me on the 1/5 is they were all 2wd and for a decent 4wd it would run me like 1500. It appears this is not the case anymore.
|
Ya they are a blast for sure. 4wd in 1/5 scale is overrated IMO. You have to have a powerful engine and strong drivetrain for it to even be worth it. Their selling the MCD 4wd clones on ebay for $600 shipped. You might want to take a look into those.
|
yep that is the plan.
|
Be sure to replace all of the bearings on the truck. Ive beeen hearing thats the only thing you have to replace. Im buying a good set of ceramic bearings inplace of them.

So you planning to run this thing on gas or convert to BL?
I was looking at these 1/5 a few months back when I got a 2250 LMT motor, but based on their weight I don't think a motor that size could push 25-30lbs around. You may need to go with a 2215 or 2230 BAM from Neu if you convert to BL. |
Im keeping it gas until mid spring around april because thats when it starts to warm up substancially and almost all of the snow is gone if now all.
