Center motor mount for hyper 8.5?

Does anyone know where I can get a motor mount for a hyper 8.5 that places the motor above the spur? I've tried contacting Mike, but I think his spam blocker is getting my emails, I hear he's usually pretty quick to respond.

Thanks.

I know BrianG has a motor mount like this in his Hyper. What Hyper model he has exactly, I can't remember. But have you tried all of Mike's email address's? He has quite a few actually...

e-mikey 08.21.2008 03:25 PM

I tried mike@rc-monster.com. I'm looking for one exactly like BrianG's actually. He got it from Mike.

Arct1k 08.21.2008 03:29 PM

I asked too about this maybe a week ago but Mike is very busy... Brushlessboy16 is mocking up a mount atm in autocad...

tc3_racer_001 08.21.2008 05:47 PM

i also asked him a while back. id still be intersted. i got the hyper 8 mount, which works if you get the hyper 8 diff post thingys - in my thread.

I know it ain't fancy machine work or anything but I made one for my MBX...

Just bought 1/4" thick Al and bent it at a 90, drilled and dremeled the rest. Works great but like I said, not fancy. :mdr:

like this one i made?

Great cad work! I am patiently waiting on one from Mike for my Maxx converison

brushlessboy16 08.21.2008 09:12 PM

thanks magman :D

BrianG 08.21.2008 09:38 PM

If it were me, I'd leave just a little bit more material to add strength. But nice CAD work though!

Arct1k 08.21.2008 09:40 PM

New version is being worked on ;)

brushlessboy16 08.21.2008 09:42 PM

indeed..

mxracer 08.22.2008 03:53 AM

i too am working on a central above spur mount , shouldnt be too far away either

tom255 08.22.2008 07:56 AM

I just made one on my CNC exactly same like on Cad drawings. I will make pictures. I made it for new Hyper 8.5pro project

e-mikey 08.22.2008 12:46 PM

I have 2 people I know with CNC machines. They both need to see plans before they tell me if they can do it or not.

Anyone feel like sharing their plans?

Also what type of aluminum are you guys using?

Arct1k 08.22.2008 12:49 PM

Contact B16's - his is looking great - Just need someone with capliers to take final measurements...

e-mikey 08.22.2008 12:52 PM

I have calipers :)

brushlessboy16 08.22.2008 01:33 PM

could i get measurements of the center-to-center distance of the center diff mount holes (where it attaches to the chassis)

also the distancece between the inside of the front and rear center diff mounts

tom255 08.22.2008 01:52 PM

Here some pics of mine motor mount

How does the top plate attach to the motor mount? - Any clearance issues with the rear brace?

e-mikey 08.22.2008 02:23 PM

I'll get that for you tonight with pictures so you can see if it's correct.

looks like it's all one piece.

Arct1k 08.22.2008 03:08 PM

Can't be otherwise you would have to machine LOTS and LOTS of metal away to get that shape!

e-mikey 08.22.2008 03:34 PM

I see what you are saying..

tom255 08.22.2008 04:49 PM

Top plate like a brace what is fixed behind with screw on motor side. I will redesign for simplier faster fix. With 12t pinion and hyper 8 default spur Medusa 60mm motor allmost tuch rear torque bar. Maximum gears are 18/52. XL motors (74mm) will not fit with low gears.

Hyper 8 have stupid diff mount what makes diff/motormount difficult to mill. I have only 3 axis machine so i need to do additional details (shims) or trimm it by hand to fit it.

tc3_racer_001 08.22.2008 06:40 PM

silly question. but would there be any way to mount it the other way? like to get it out of the way of the rear chassis brace? looks good though! keep up the thinking guys!

brushlessboy16 08.22.2008 06:50 PM

hmm elaborate on that, i dont follow?

tc3_racer_001 08.22.2008 06:59 PM

dont worry. im an idiot lol.

i thought if there was any way to mount the motor the other end of the diff, but to do that u would have to have a HUGE shaft... OR have a really HUGE pinion to clear the top of the diffmount. (i.e. a spur sized one! haha.)

edit: OR flip the diff round, then it would work maybe? u would ahve to cut out a slot in teh bottom though, not too difficult if you really wanted a longer motor...

tom255 08.23.2008 03:13 AM

On buggy if you flip center diff it will not fit under body. Two - three solutions to fit bigger motor, redesign rear torque bar or use bigger spur gear, place some spacers under diff or make new whole diff mount what is taller.
I designed mount for 60mm medusa motor its more than enough on buggy, no reason to use any bigger motor on that.
I will put 74mm motor to get gearing limits...

brushlessboy16 08.23.2008 07:10 AM

or just clock the motor to one side by 10 degrees or so

e-mikey 08.23.2008 09:45 AM

Will the motor mount in Mikes store fit a 8.5? I know it's to the side, but it seems like the only quick way to make this happen.

tc3_racer_001 08.23.2008 07:18 PM

see my thread in the buggy forum. :) (it does with some parts from the h8 diff)

e-mikey 08.24.2008 12:42 PM

Okay, this is my first time using calipers, not sure if it's right...

for the mount holes I have 34.70 front to back, 21.15 side to side, 40.74 criss cross.

brushlessboy16 08.24.2008 01:08 PM

hmmm 34.7? and 21.25. were your calipers zeroed? kind of odd

e-mikey 08.24.2008 01:18 PM

Should they all be like 35.5 and 21.25, or should they all be whole number?

brushlessboy16 08.24.2008 01:18 PM

i would expect a hole number or half, quarter etc.. just not .4 :D

Arct1k 08.24.2008 01:21 PM

Easier to measure the outside and inside of the holes and then split the difference rather than guessing the middle... :)

brushlessboy16 08.24.2008 01:25 PM

chris you have a hyperst, you can measure it ;)

What parts should I order?

Arct1k 08.24.2008 10:53 PM

I don't have calipers - sorry
