How did your MMMv2 die?

First one - Calibrated, lined up the motor, hit the throttle in the basement(lightly), truck rolled about ten feet, touched reverse, then touched throttle again. Truck stuttered and then a small puff of smoke from right where the LEDs are.

Second one - Ran it on the street for about ten minutes last night... beautiful!
pulled it out tonight, got about 5 minutes and it stopped rolling. No throttle response, but steering still was operational. about 10 seconds later as I ran down the street to get to the car, it tried to roll again, like it initially tripped something and reset, as soon as it tried to roll again, it stopped and then no power. No lights, no steering, nothing.

Nothing hot what-so-ever.

In a spectacular ball of fire. http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../332272918.jpg This was in my buddies truck.I convinced him to get a MMM,well told him it's the 1 he wanted. The second run on 4s with a 8xl.10 minutes into the run it was 115,15 minutes into the run the body started giving off an eary light.

more and more mmmv2 died....the situation look like the mmmv1.....v3 it is possible!!????

mtfly2000 08.28.2008 11:17 PM

I would like for Castle to take some time, get copious amounts of feedback, and then release a v3 later on down the line. Or maybe an HV Monster that may make this one obsolete.

Can we keep this thread to what happened to your MMMv2?
I think it would be useful to all for seeing any patterns or any commonalities between these set ups.

Dragonfueled 08.29.2008 11:05 AM

Mine ran good for 10 minutes. Punched it from a stand still and it started to stutter then the truck stopped. Moments later smoke and flames. Everything was cool beforehand.

4s Neu 1515 1y E revo

Seems like they either die one of two ways... Smoke and flames or dust unresponsive..

coolrunnings 08.31.2008 03:49 AM

I have to know...when these things flame on like this does it short out the lipo pack? If anyone knows please tell me thanks.

Sammus 08.31.2008 04:08 AM

Dragonfueled: how was your car geared? from what I understand, smoke and flames is pretty much always bad setup.

For starters A 1y on 4s is running quite low rpm, and you would have to gear it quite a way up to compensate.

coolrunnings: in the billion or so reports I've read of dead MMMs I'm yet to hear anyone mention a dead lipo, my guess would be no. In the fire and smoke death scenario, perhaps it shorts for a split second from the initial component failure, but the onrush of current kills everything else and any chance of there being a short.

brushlessboy16 08.31.2008 08:20 AM

BEC failed on mine after 10 mins, smoked
was running 5s and 8xl

2 dead v2's

#1 died during calibration sent it to castle last tues. heard nothing.
#2 died yesterday at the track after about 10 laps, car lawn darted over a small double, no throttle or led's but servos work what the hell!!!

Sent a pm to patrick but he will not respond. No mods were performed on either v2 only thing i did was pull the sticker off the bottom so i could mount it securley. Very impressed with the controller when its running, i think the nitro guys realized how outdated they were yesterday when i passed all of them down the staright with that silent car.....

mine died after 1 min...i open the case i saw a foam glued on the lid...i remove that foam and i do a groove on the lid to prevent component issue (i was thinking it was my problem)i closed the case and my v2 work good for 3 minutes and it really die.....:whip:no rx,no servo nada.. the only thing that im able to do is to setup on my pc(castle link)

Definitely a BEC issue there. The Link supplies the 5v power for the brains, so it makes sense that it works then. But when you hook it up to batteries, the brains are no longer powered so it doesn't work.

Me thinks Castle should forego the switching BEC thing altogether. They can use a cheap linear regulator for the brains (not much loss because of the really low current), and package a CCBEC in the box for a few $$$ more. Worth it IMO.

brushlessboy16 08.31.2008 01:29 PM

or remove the bec, make it opto and have an external connector for a UBEC (as said previously)

slimthelineman 08.31.2008 01:37 PM

so if i use a ccbec will i be able to get a whole pack through my next v2?

e-mike 08.31.2008 02:11 PM

mine is died if i try a external bec it could be work????no way i buy a controller for use it without ubec.....:whip:

and sorry if i use this tread but if i have to return my lovely V2 it is necessary to complete the REQUEST FORMULE or i can ship my esc without this

killjoyken 08.31.2008 06:14 PM

Damn! Now I don't even want to put my new replacement V2s in my Savages!!! V1s dying is one thing, but smoke and flames is unacceptable! I think most of us have been extremely patient and understanding with Castle, but I'm really starting to lose faith. Most of these are not extreme setups. In fact, the MM/CCBEC combo is proving more reliable on 4s setups.

Patrick....HELP!

Try using a UBEC. I am on my 3rd MMM and the third I installed with a UBEC and it's running like a champ.

CRTIM 08.31.2008 09:22 PM

What UBEC are you running JaySki ??...thanks for the help

The whole purpose of the MMM for myself was no need for an external bec and having the possibilty to run 6s . Most set ups so far that have failed have been quite mild just like v1 .I myself will run an external bec when i receive v2 just to play it safe but i think i have finally lost faith in CC , this is unacceptable:no:

Now please guys don't want to hear the crap about there will always be failures with new products , this is v2 should of all been sorted by now .

Maybe v3 will be sorted but i don't think as many people will be hanging around for it this time .

right!!!! this is why ive buy this controller...no external bec...and 6 cell power:whip:

and now like some guy's i loose faith:yes:

Webwiesel 09.01.2008 01:18 PM

Recieved two controllers last Week and one died after 10min (BEC). The other one runs good so far. Thats 50% failure here !! Know about 4 other Guys who orderd the monster an they last max 10 to 20 minutes (not in this Forum). :grrrrrr:

How bad was the MM when it came out.... 70% failure?

I am using a Novak BEC, but that is on a new MMM, not one that the BEC circuit failed on already.

ptt81 09.01.2008 11:45 PM

I've just got a new V2 MMM and Im running mine with ubec and my own fan right out of the box, it seems to hold up fine so far. I have ran thru 1 pack of 4s and 1 pack of 6s with Neu 1515 1Y, total about 40min. I did a little mod on the fan grill as well just to make sure fan blades dont get caught on it or anything getting in it, check it out here http://monster.traxxas.com/showthread.php?t=435810
