Here's some good smokin' pictures....
It had close to 35-40 full packs ran through it... It was working great!
THEN I let my girlfriend drive it, and look what she did within 10 min.... http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/784/ersmokinguq9.jpg http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/9...ofsmokenh3.jpg http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/6347/mmmsmokewv0.jpg My outlook on everything, is that these things happen, and that if you get mad at everylittle thing, then nothing will ever get done... Plus I know that CC has the greatest customer service in the RC world... |
one more...!!!!but next time dont give the control at your girlfriend:lol:
|
I'm sorry that THIS had to be your first post! Welcome to the forums! :yipi:
CC does have great service. Unfortunately it may take a while to get your replacement. They are somewhat swamped right now. P.S. - That is A LOT of smoke! :oh: |

What did the gf do to it? |
Yeah, it's a pretty big amount of smoke... Oh well....
I've actually been over on the Trx forums for a while, and could never quite seem to get my account over here working, so I made a new one... Thanks for welcoming me! Ugh... I don't know... Mabye I'll call and speak directly with them on Tuesday... That way I'll get in before anymore might fail... EDIT: The girlfriend drove it around the yard for a while... the it starts smoking, and the first thing she says is "I swear I didn't do it" |
Dude your girlfreind is HOT!!...lol.

 Looks nice! A little blast-from-the-past, huh?
|
looks like she backed it into a corner ,it got stuck and she has mashed the throttle with the wheels locked and overloaded the esc. that usually creates smoke .

Naw, I was standing there watching, and it just rolled there, she was trying to turn in to a opening and it rolled straight... And there's a slipper that isn't really tightened down all the way, so the wheels wouldn't have locked... |
Haha, well I guess you can't blame her then! I bet she freaked out when it started to smoke.
|
I remember my gf watching me run my brushless mini inferno/quark 33 setup when it smoked and caught fire. She screamed like it was a horror movie (kinda shocked me in the process).. but I laughed and watched the carnage.

wait a minute...
...how many days?  |
Yeah,I knew what he meant, just looking for humour about these things anywhere it can be found.

Dude, sorry to here about your loss. I like your outlook on life. I try to live my life the same way...things happen so you can either get upset or roll w/it, learn from it and move on. Life is WAY to short to get upset over little things.
Not to rub anything in...so please don't take this the wrong way, but, those are some pretty cool pics of the truck smoking. |
Welcome over here Texas-Pete. Now the guys can't just abbreviate my name as Texas or confusion will abound.
Texas-Pete has always been a level headed guy on the TRX forums in my opinion and should be well liked here. Sorry for the loss man! Guess it goes women are just bad drivers all around. It doesn't seem to matter if it's a car or RC! |
Wow, does she feel bad?
|
Texas pete, are your lipos ok?
|
Yeah, I just ran my TRC packs in my Villain EX, they work fine...
The pack that was under the MMM smells like horrid burnt plastic though... My whole E-Revo smells like that crap... My guess is that when the MMM dies, it probably does short out the lipos for a split second, but the MMM melting then breaks up the short circuit. |
I have heard that when a lipo is shorted even for an instant the are f....ed up. Thats the only thing I'm scared of ....ruining one of my packs otherwise I would try one of these things. Anyway let us know if your battery pack stops working ok thanks. Also you can get the smell off your truck by setting it in front of a de-ionizer (or a negetive ion generator) for a few hours...it deadens the oder molecules. I know because I bought a rare leather holloween mask from the ukraine and it smells like cigarette smoke so bad I almost gagged going near it....it works.
|
Nah, that must be an old wive's tail- I've shorted my packs before for a split second by touching connectors together accidently- no harm done. Many others have dont the same, with A123 cells too- a momentory short wont hurt the batts, but keepinf them shorted will cause them to puff and probably 'brew up'.
|
It depends what you define as a short. To me, a short it touching the + and - terminals together with a solid connection. And no, that's not good. However, when something happens to an ESC that "shorts" the leads, there are a number of resistances to consider; connectors, length of wires, PCB traces, FET internals, etc, which all limit current to some degree. So, it really is not a direct short. And when something does go wrong with the ESC where something burns up, the connection causing the short opens quickly so the short is no longer there anymore. ESC fireworks can seem to be really bad, but they are not designed to dissipate anything over ~30W. When an ESC shorts a battery, it is forced to dissipate over 1000W.
Besides, our setups can pull well over 200A+ of instantaneous currents for a very brief moment. That is pretty darn close to a "short circuit" in my book if you want to get technical. |
Well I could can shed some light on this subject lol . My v2 when up in flames a couple days ago and i was using the True rc 8000 15c lipos. One lipo died a horrible death and one survived. When I opened the pack out of curiosity the tabs on the lipos had obviously been seriously heated and you could see burn marks. The pack had no voltage. Somewhere in the connection of the cells went bad and opened. I tried jumping the tabs also to isolate the wireing and no good..... So yes a shorted esc can kill a lipo. Im so scared it will kill my enerlands next but i figure they can take the heat better then the true rc's
|
Thanks guy's for the input, I run polyquest packs and I would hate to lose one. But I feel a little safer now. I have another concern about lipo's (something I heard) if you get them wet they are f....d, so I dip the ends of my packs in plastidip you know that rubber tool handle dip to seal and water proof them. It's realy not that messy and it looks kinda cool when I'm done. I dont know why water kills the cells either.

If you like, run your truck into a pond, then yeah, you might kill your lipos, but you would also kill your MM/MMM and brush less too... I run my gear in wet grass a lot, and haven't had any problems with any of my gear.... EDIT* Not soaking wet rain-grass, but dewy morning grass. |
