So what are you all running? I have a partly disassemble iMac (to increase cooling when its 100 F in my room) and a new computer that I'm going to build that I just ordered. I also have a cheapy emachines that I found on the side of the road, but its fine for email and browsing/
I'll post pics once I get it built up, and I bet a few you you would get a kick out of my iMac. (and BrianG will have to see the fan I have blowing across the onboard graphics. My new rig will have an e8400, Ati 4850, 4GB of ram, maybe I'll get another video card for it to go xfire with it someday. I bet some of you have nice setups, so lets see them. And the not as nice ones of course. |

I do have 2 good size flat panel monitors for each of my two main desktops though, which is kinda cool. |

New machine, which should turn up this coming week (custom order - I wanted to build it, but my parents don't trust me for some reason): - Core 2 Duo E8400 - 4Gb Kingston 667mhz RAM - Asrock Conroe 1333-D667 mobo - 360Gb SATA 7200rpm HD - Zotac 512mb Geforce 8800GT - 22x DVD-RW drive - Coolermaster eXtreme Power 460W PSU - Galaxy III case - 19" Hannspree New York widescreen TFT - Vista 64bit Should be a nice upgrade.:yipi: |

I have two HP workstations both running 10k rpm drives. Can't hookup my eagletree brushless sensor on it though. Got one thin pc for the wife to do her accounting stuff, one in the kitchen, so she can check recipes and whatnot, and one hooked up to the tv. I think of it as my giant laptop.
Laptops...well, I have 3, my wife has two and my 6year old has one. I don't run vista on any of them. Worthless and slows all my systems down. I'll upgrade to windows 7 when it gets released. I have a modified Thin client laptop that runs full xp and take with me when I go racing for datalogging and programming my ESC. The thing can stay on for 8 hours straight. |
i'm only gonna post my two main systems.
just built a new comp: Shuttle SG31G2 barebones Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD 74GB 10000 RPM SATA 1.5Gb/s LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model iHAS120-04 PNY Nvidia 7600GS PCI-E (older card) 500GB Music drive via SATA 500GB HD video drive via USB WD external "book" 500GB TV drive WD external "book" 1TB Movie drive then my other computer's pretty old, but a mini server. ASRock mobo (don't remember model) 2.4ghz AthlonXP 1gb pc2100 ATI 9800 about 8 hard drives totaling ~1.5tb. this computer's actually down right now, (won't power on, possibly psu), when it's fixed, I'll move the externals from the shuttle to this computer, and it'll be ~3.5tb. kvm switched, and eventually i'll run vnc to control the mini server. dual monitors as well, w/ a hd lcd tv next to them :) |

My previous computer fell victim to a nearby lightening strike. I knew the UPS passed a surge because it began squeeling like a stuck pig.
I thought "no problem, APC has equipment protection!" BUT.......that's only IF you fill out the card with the exact equipment that you have plugged up to it. Well I didn't do any of this. So.........enter..........my new computer. It's an HP. WidowPC no longer makes my exact model (big surprise, it's almost 4 years old). It was TOTL when I bought it. The first dual-core laptop, I believe. After it's all paid off ($) I'm going to put a custom liquid-cooling system into it. It can be done, I've had it apart a bunch of times already to check things out. The only reason I don't do it now is because should anything go wrong, I don't want to be making payments on a busted computer. |
My desktop:
Coolermaster Stacker 830 Case with 5 intake fans, 1 rear exhaust, 2 slot exhaust fans. Total of 300+ CFM moved through my case. Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 running at 1333mhz FSB, 3.0ghz Core clock and 4mb of L2 cache. This is a 65nm core. Cooled by a Zalman 9500. 2x 1GB Dual Channel G.Skill Ram running 4-4-4-12 timing declocked to 667mhz Foxconn 9800GTX+ Video Card 512mb (738mhz core clock and 2200mhz RAM clock) 4x 160gb 7200RPM Western Digital HD's paired into RAID arrays. First pair running RAID 0 (stripe) and second pair running RAID 1 (mirror) resulting in two virtual drives. Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Gamer 7.1 Altec Lansing 4.1 Speaker System (8 years old now and still working great - its a wonder how older stuff has better, longer lasting quality than newers stuff sometimes). Saitec Eclispse Blue Backlit Keyboard Logitech G5 Mouse Samsung 22" LCD - WSXGA 1680x1050, 3000:1 Contrast Ratio, 2ms response time (really a great monitor) (PS. I read someone posted "WSXGA 1920x1200" Thats incorrect. 1920x1200 is WUXGA). My Old/Current laptop thats about to be replaced: Dell Inspiron 8600 1.7ghz Pentium M 1GB of Ram (2x512mb stick - not dual channel). GeForce FX GO5650 128mb (really a great card considering) 80GB 7200RPM Harddrive 1920x1200 WUXGA Screen - 15.4in New laptop that ships out tomorrow (can't wait to get it!) Dell Inspiron XPS M1730 17" WUXGA 1920x1200 screen 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo T8300 - 800mhz FSB, 3MB L2 Cache. This is the newer 45nm core. 4GB Ram (2x 2GB Dual Channel) at 667mhz. Dual GeForce 8700M GT 256mb Video Cards in SLI (total of 512mb) Windows Vista Ultimate (will be 64-bit) Creative Sound Card 2x 160GB Hard Drives (yes, this laptop has 2 hard drives, thats no typo). Blu-Ray player and full DVD Burner combo disc drive The new laptop is for college. Part of its purpose was replacing my desktop (which I'm not taking with me) so it had to be powerful. I worked all summer to pay for it. Definitely will be my baby for a while. To go along with the laptop I got some Bose Over the Ear headphones so I can drown out noises when I study (and so I can have sound without disturbing other people). Truly great headphones. I also got the Dell XPS Backpack designed specifically for my laptop (this arrived already and its very sturdy). |

Yeah...from Newegg a pair of 1GB sticks in Dual Channel is about 45 bucks (those are how much the ones I have are). And I paid over 100 for those a year and a half ago...how technology moves...

Oh I see. Yes, 184 pin is different. That's about right. If it was 240 Pin then it would have been a lot.

Pc Info
Well I guess I am like some of the other guys on here. We have 7 PC's in our household right now. 4 of them are laptops (2=Dells, 1=HP dv1000, & a Dell mini laptop, two of the desktops are Dell, and Compaq, but the main PC is one that I built from scratch three years ago. At this point none of them are all that special considering how technology keeps moving forward, and in fact we are thinking about purchasing one of the new Mac computers with the PC built right into the huge 30" screen. We can get them tax free at the PX at relatively good market prices loaded up with software. It seems that no matter what you buy today it will be outdated in less than 6 months, and resale values are never worth the trouble of selling them. We have donated like 5 PC's in the last 4 years to charitable organizations. I can do all of the A+ stuff just fine, but the programming gets a little complicated and tetious for me. I am getting to the point now, that I just want to purchase the newest top of the line PC ready to play with.

I just bought 2x2GB of DDR2 1066 for 104. Pretty good deal I thought. |
I cant believe that GB of DDR is $16, I was a VAR (value added reseller) for HP, Cisco, Compaq etc basically all the companys that distribute through Ingram Micro etc. around 1998-2003, A GB of ram was $1200 and would only fit in a server. Im 36 and feel retardedly old these days and far behind the times LOL. $16 for a gigabyte wtf. I had 768mb in my 800mhz PC and it was more than the office server, I was king !

Exactly.
That is exactly my point. All though it kind of pisses us off as things advance past what we have just purchased for top dollar it is nice to see just how far we have come in the last 10 to 20 years. Remember the original car phones? That was the coolest thing that we had ever seen at that time, and now that is such a joke. My kids were asking me about televisions when we were kids in the 60's and they flipped when I told them that there were no remotes yet. My 12 yr old asked how in the world did we change the chanel then:rofl:. They are so happy to be kids in this day in age and not back then. One of my sadest fears is not getting to see some of the truly ingenious inventions coming in the next 50 to 100 years down the line:eyes:. It is kind of funny when you compare the predictions of people back 50 years ago or more, and a lot of the stuff that they could imagine is now part of our every day lives.
