1515 vs 1521 in a LST???

So i have had great succes with my 1515 1.5d in my erevo and was thinking of buying a neu for my Aftershock (lst based truck). Setup will be a MMM on 6s lipo. 4500mah 30c pack made of enerland cells. I have set the tranny up as forward only, and have a TDR single speed hub. So basically it is locked in 2nd gear, so I can use motor brakes and reverse. Gearing is 24/59, with stock tires and a 1500 kv motor it will be setup for around 42mph.

Sticking with the listed setup as i plan to try my hacker c50 11xl in it before I buy a neu. It specs out very similar to a 1521 1y or a 1515 1.5y.

So I am wondering which neu would be better. Having them geared the same, with very similar kv, I am guessing the 1521 would be a better choice. The aftershock is a heavier truck than the erevo, and the wheel/tires weigh more. I am looking for good temps, around 160f would be nice.

Maybe someone can tell me what wattage range the various neus are good for? Since the lipos are good for 120+ amps cont, what motor will be good? 3hp somds like a good number, which would be around 100amps at 6s lipo.

bdebde 09.01.2008 12:27 AM

Castle has the motors listed at 1250 continuous and 2500 peak for 1515; 1750 continuous, 3500 peak for 1521. I run a 1515 in my Muggy with motor temps of 150 -160, and plenty of power, but I think I would get a 1521 for that truck if it was me.

coolrunnings 09.01.2008 02:59 AM

I think the 1521 has an 8mm shaft plus the bolt holes wont line up.

wallot 09.01.2008 04:42 AM

1521 is same can diameter as 1515 (and as whole 15xx line) 8mm shaft is just an option for the 15xx line.

BL_RV0 09.01.2008 12:20 PM

I'd get the 1521. Why not do a ~8-10s setup though?

8mm shaft is optional on 1521 (5mm standard), holes line up but are 4mm instead of 3mm.

lutach 09.01.2008 08:46 PM

You can't go wrong with the 1521.

coolrunnings 09.01.2008 09:28 PM

Wow! Now I want a 1521 for my inferno gt single speeder that I'm going to run on 6s...bigger motor more power less heat right?

I ran my BPP a few days ago when I got my TC3 clocked at 65mph and the BPP ran for about 20 minutes with no heat issue at all. It went 46mph btw with gearing for 31mph, but I guess the extra little ballooning added the extra speed.

Hey Linc good to see that nothing is slowing you down. How many projects do you have in progress right now? I have no experience with either motor just yet, but from all the specs and your extensive experiences in R/C I would say why not just go with the 1521 and have some fun. After all 1515's have been used extensively and have been showcased on here already. Besides we all know how you love the speed and power above and beyond the norm. I am sure that you had already made up your mind before you posted, but sparking some jealousy and enthusiasm is just your way of keeping things interesting right? From my point of view I do not think that you would be happy with just the 1515 in the heavier truck. Anyhow let us know how that works out for you Sir. Have a good one Pimp.

I think that's what I'm going to do. I still have my MGM 9032. I have a 1515/2y (1100kv) but I'd really like to get one of the 80mm medusas for it.

That or get a savage XL instead in trade of the Muggy

I used my Aveox 36/38/2 (It's basically a Neu 1515/2Y) in my MBX5T with 8S lipos and it was great. So much torqeu that it bent the drive shaft.

Thanks for all of the info. I am currently saving for a 1521, but I will try the hacker c50 11xl first. Almost done with the lst motor mount, just need to make the battery tray and wire it up.

Now, another question... I acquired a neu 6s 3900 20c lipo. So it is good for about 80 amps cont. Would like to run my hyper st truggy with a MMM and this lipo. What would be the best neu to do this? I am leaning toward a 1515 2.5d... Or should I go to a 1512? It is atruggy, but I plan to run mtr tires with dish wheels, to keep the weight down. And it will be geared for 40mph. Or should I stick the hacker c50 11xl in it and just buy a 1521 for the lst???

Too many decisions!!!

JERRY2KONE 09.05.2008 02:20 AM

What The Hell.

What the hell, why not just go for the later choice. Use the Hacker in the truggy and get the 1521 for the lst. At least that way you can go ahead and have some fun now while you are waiting on the new Neu motor for the other project. But you already know this, don't you. I know it is nice to get some opinions from others once in a while. Hey Pimp do you do any racing with your stuff, or are you just a diehard basher? With all of your equipment you should be doing some cometitive racing. At least you have the spare parts laying around the shop to keep you moving. Wouldn't it be cool if someone decided to start doing R/C XGames for television? That would be fun to watch don't you think?

Hey Jerry, the closest track is about 1 hr away, so I have not tried racing yet. Plus I would be the only electric guy there. I would have a dead battery before most of them had even got their stuff started and tuned...

R/C Xgames would be cool, maybe someone could make a compilation of the the crazy stuff people have posted on you tube?

bruce750i 09.05.2008 11:54 AM

R/C X games like long/high jump, longest wheelie? Then maybe the 2012 summer Olympics! I think a r/c monster truck jam would also be cool. Freestyle or Head to head two lap races with obstacles and cones.

JERRY2KONE 09.05.2008 09:13 PM

You Bet Ya.

Yea that is what I am talking about. The closest thing that I have seen or read about is the annual monster jam at Diggers Dungeon. I would love to be able to attend one of his bashes, or any bash for that matter. With us traveling around the world in our jobs it makes it kind of hard, so I have to live these things through you guys. When we are in teh states it is only for like a week to two weeks usually. We only get a full month once every 3 to 4 years because of the work we do. Still seeing something like R/C XGames would be a real morale booster for me. It would be one way to pull all of the RCM guys into the same arena at the same time. Maybe Mike can pull something like that off. This website is surely one of the best and largest of its kind, and there is an incredible amount of talent in here for something like that. Oh well I guess it is just a dream.

So linc take lots of batteries with you, go to the track and kick some butt.:whip: Videos please???

Anyone that is still nitro hasn't driven a brushless, and has CLEARLY been thuroughly headf---ed by nitro. And is also one of these.

Dude is that one of those costumey bags that you pee in? I want one for my rc desk so I dont have to keep leaving my projects just to pee!

Kajman 09.07.2008 03:39 AM

Noo, it is something much more wrong I think ;)

Douche bag? Or a home enema kit?

killajb 09.13.2008 09:01 AM

Richard Pryor did a funny stint about these things a loooong time ago. I'm talking before Tamiya was into RC. For all the old guys in this forum, it's a "no-brainer".

lincpimp 09.13.2008 10:13 AM

Just picked up a 1521 1y for this beast. We will see how it compares to the hacker c50 11xl.

Good choice. I had the ION-X which is like a C50-13 or 15XL and the 1521/1Y is just a lot more motor then the Hacker.

I was wondering how well it would work. The 11xl has plenty of power for the setup, but runns a tad warm, getting close to 170f after 20mins or so. I was hoping that the 1521 would stay a bit cooler. Both motors have similar kv, so re-gearing will not be necessary. I always wanted an ion-x, they just look cool!

_paralyzed_ 09.13.2008 11:33 AM

i've never seen an ion-x, anybody got a link?

Yes, the Hacker will get warmer then the Neu. The Neu will have much more torque. I ran my BPP truggy for 20 minutes doing lots of speed runs and very hard stop and go. The Neu was not even warm. I ran the ION-X on the speed runs seen in youtube and it pushed the BPP to 59mph so it's a good motor and when not doing speed runs it was just as cool as the Neu, but the ION-X was in a 10S set up.

thanks lutach, was that a dinner plate or a schulze 40.160? man that thing is huge. that ion-x does look cool, nothing beats a pletty though, linc- throw a big maxximum in there, icare rc man, drop the coin,do it! get a big maxx!

No problem. Yes, that's my 40.160 and yes it is huge, but also it puts out huge amounts of power.
