Noooooooooooo! Not Number 4?!?!?!?!?
WTF??? I took my truck out for the first time in the dirt yesterday with the wife and kid. After about 8-10 min, it just stopped working!!! I figured I had a dead battery, so I went to swap, but no sirree; I now have ANOTHER dead MMM. Yes folks, this is my THIRD dead V2, FOURTH MMM total!! Maybe 5th time's a charm??
The only thing I can think of is that before running it yesterday, I dropped the punch control even lower (limits power more), changed the timing to whatever the next is below neutral for cooler temps, and raised cutoff voltage to 19V. Then I ran a few minutes and died. I thought this was over, guess not. No more smileys either. At this point in time, I think it's safe to say that the switch to brushless was EXTREMELY STUPID, and I should have stuck with nitro. When nitro breaks, you can SEE it, and FIX it. When an ESC breaks, you don't know why, and you have to send it back. And it's like a bad surprise when it happens. BL/LIPO sucks! There, I said it!! I want my nitro setup back! I'll take regular maintenance over waiting forever for parts that work anyday. What a waste of time and money this was!! Anybody want to buy my setup??? End rant. |
What's your setup?
Sorry to hear the loss of your MMM. At least, you were able to run it for 10 minutes. I'm still waiting for the replacement of my V1. I'm not thrilled about the MMM anymore. Good thing I still have my nitros to run with or else I will be here ranting about CC everyday. Do you have any plans of doing BrianG's mod? |

now nothing surprise me:yes:.... why we are the beta tester......???? |
Do yourself a favor, get a Novak for a dependable system. Then when your in between sending in the Monster you have something to drive.
|
I have had great results so far on #3 with a UBEC. Not the way it should be, but it sure as hell beat playing musical MMMs. :)
|
well there is always BL boats, planes, and heli's...I just found out there is a BL boat club in my area...I am thinking about checking them out, they meet on sundays @ noon at this golf course lake to run thier boats
|
Not to victimize the victim, but why do people continue buying these things when they know there are problems? I can see if someone bought one and had a problem, but after 4, I would think enough would be enough. People actually seem to be genuinely surprised when their 3rd+ MMM breaks. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."
Sorry to come across like this, but come on! It's not like this is breaking news! It should be painfully obvious by now that there are still some bugs to work out. |
He may have only bought one, this could be the 4th repair/replacement.

So people continue to buy MMM because it's just $169.00 and people hope that their new unit be more reliable than the previous one. |
It sound's like its getting to the point were they should just recall all MMM's since there seems to be a problem with MOST of the MMMs out there. For every person who owns two MMM V2's or more, more often than not both fail. I don't know if it has to do with the setup or not. Anybody have any problems with an MMM in a buggy? I've only heard of problems in truggies and monster trucks so far.

My v1 mmm I think toasted today..I changed from a 4s to 5s. I am running an external ccbec and it went up in smoke. I think the esc is finally toast too. Oh well, I will have to put my MGM back in.

I guess I get to join the 4 MMM club.
I lost #4 today. Good thing I have another one still new in the box. I'll put it in later this week. This is going to be the one I just know it. :mdr: |
lol Macr0w, sounds like Willy Wonka opening his last chocolate bar looking for the golden ticket

Hey, as long as the suspense doesn't kill him...

can the quark 125 monster run 6s?why dont more people run them?

Quarks only offices are in korea now.So cs can be a hassle.I use a Quark 80b modded for heat and extra caps and it does alright with a Medusa 2000,but I can overheat it in about 10 minutes if I'm not careful.
|
we want a 6 cell controller that's it...not a thing that we have to ship each week:yes:
|
And even when Quark had a US office, they only work reliably up to 5s. 6s is iffy, some people can get them to work, some can't, and some will work if some of the voltage is bled a little below the 4.2v of a fresh cell.
|
i havent lost faith in castle, but im waiting for the recall notice... even though mine is dead
|
it would be nice if castle would keep us up to date and maybe even be honest with us as to why there are so many failures
|
Whatever on the flaming of the MGMs. They are great controllers and really only lack the nice firmware the CC escs do. Ive had mine for over a year and I've never had a hardware issue with it, never overheated, and always got good replies on emails. I recently send it to CZ for the big v3.2x update. Total turnaround time was 3wks, and that's with them going on vacation. They also re-applied new waterproofing and heatshrink so it looks brand new.
Its a pita they are in CZ, but their service is still quite good as far as RC stuff goes. Most things are if it breaks, you are SOL. I have a MMM with a few packs on it, but the rate at which they are dying makes me keep my mgm around. Still not sure if I like more anyway. I need to run it now w/ the update. I've never seen the rash of failures with any other esc we've had around here (and they all have had their moments) |
dear mr. what's nitro: I am not looking for sympathy from you, or anyone; just the simplest thing possible here: a freakin' WORKING remote control monster truck that cost me well north of $1000!! THAT'S ALL!!! My post was not aimed at you, nor was it a personal attack at you, or anyone for that matter. It was me speaking (typing) out of LOTS of frustration that has been brewing over the past SEVERAL MONTHS. If you can't handle my point of view, then read another post. But honestly, you should do yourself a favor, and question/ consider where I'm coming from before you go off the deep end. It will get you further in life, as well as these silly internet discussion forums (I like this forum).
Bottom line: I've been sent 4 controllers, and only one has worked, but not for long. I have wasted my entire summer waiting for this disaster to get fixed. I sold off everything I had that was nitro for this maintenance free, far superior technology, and all I've done is imagine how great it would be if it actually worked. Then, when it does break, there's nothing I can do, because it's just a circuit board!! Don't get me wrong, BL/LIPO IS FAR SUPERIOR to nitro, BUT, when nitro breaks, whatever it is, you find it, and fix it. When BL breaks, you're SOL unless you're an electrical engineer. I'm not. |
I think everyone should relax a bit here. There's no need to throw flames at each other based on one general frustration: MMM's have experienced a high failure rate.
Each person that put $$ down for a MMM has a right to expect it to function. At the same time, I'm sure Patrick and company have multiple head-aches trying to resolve these failures and get the product they wanted to produce in the first place. V2's were shipped out to all who had a failed V1 first..and there will presumably be a V3 that further address the problems many are experiencing now with V2's. I am happy that Castle is actively working on a solution and should my ESC fail once I install it, I will provide as much helpful information as I can as to why it failed and leave it at that. I had an ESC from another company that burned up under normal operating conditions. I was told by that company to send it in for a replacement and have not heard from them since. It's like they didn't care at all once they had my money already. I felt taken advantage of, and will never buy a product from that company again. As long as Castle is willing to try to correct their mistakes I can't say anything negative about them, at least we have that option.. I don't mean to offend anyone, just trying to lighten up the mood here.. |
I bet Patrick does not want to go into the office tomorrow, id call in sick
|
of curse we cannot put all the blame on cc but its prety hard to not do that ...however v1 was the bec and the also the v2,,,, cc should have resolved this issue before release the v2!!???two version but the same problem...
this is the world of electronic.... |
Dude you keep buying mmm's WTF...just kidding listen everything gonna be ok. Brushless power is ten times better than nitro, your just using the wrong control that's all...give the mamba monster another six months or so and they will have the bugs worked out in the mean time grab a different esc its that simple, also I think something might be really wrong other than the esc but I could be wrong...breath in breath out...woo sa woo sa.
|
David lamontagn, are you for real dog? mgm does make a 6s control and it is twice the price but it is not the same thing at all and it does not fail as much. The build quality is twice that of the mmm...twice the fets come on man do a little research.

I'm kind of glad i stuck with my Quark's, i have three (1 80 amp and 2 125amp, no mods) all run cool and aggravation free. I understand the problems with wanting a quality esc, But you need to see most thing now-a-days are disposable. For castle to find replacable, quality components is tough, I'm beginning to wonder if this is the problem, low quality disposable parts. I understand its not castle's fault, I can imagine the scramble trying to make this right
