Super G-Maxx (Project M-23)

I thought might as well add my E-Maxx into the mix too!! :D

Here is the new dawn of a New E-Maxx separate from my Stock one.

A slew of Parts arrive!
Supermaxx and GorillaMaxx parts and those GA 7075 Bulks.
I still have a bunch of parts I didn't photo. I don't know how some of you do it, but I can't wait to rip into em and its hard for me to just grab the camera to take a pic sometimes before I rip into the packages.

http://www.juggernaut23.com/E-Maxx%2...arts%20000.JPG
Very Shiny.. I really like these arms.
http://www.juggernaut23.com/E-Maxx%2...sion%20001.JPG
http://www.juggernaut23.com/E-Maxx%2...%20Chassis.JPG

That E-maxx tranny is all aluminum.. No plastic at all.. Even the shifter..Just like my Juggernaut project!
http://www.juggernaut23.com/E-Maxx%2...nny%200001.JPG

I will be using Mod one Custom Spur gears and Custom Pinions made out of Hardened Steel to replace those 32 pitch gears.

There are alot more things I will be doing but I will update slowly!
I will be looking at more parts from UE, Gorillamaxx, Integy, HardCore, MIP, Plettenberg, Schulze, and others.

Chase023 02.15.2005 04:23 AM

I must say tho, I was such a Jugg2/TXT-1/Clod fan but after getting an stock E-Maxx and then upgrading it, I really like the E-Maxx.
I am still more of a Juggy/TXT-1/Clod fan but my liking for the E-Maxx has grown.
Well here is a mock up before some of the driveline parts arrived.

At this config, it only weighed around 5 lbs 4 oz.
http://www.juggernaut23.com/E-Maxx%2...M-23%20001.JPG

Here is the assembly right now, tho I do have the body mounted and drilled.
http://www.juggernaut23.com/E-Maxx%2...%20A%20000.JPG

As you can see at this config without batteries, one 8mm Steel CVD, body posts, wheels/tires, spur, and pinion gear, it still only weighs 7 lbs 0.5 oz which isn't too bad. A stock E-Maxx weighs around 10.8 lbs. Gotta see if I can keep this truck lower than stock with all aluminum.

http://www.juggernaut23.com/E-Maxx%2...%20A%20016.JPG

Here is the Extended F-350 Body I am going to use. I really like this body.
I am little sad that I had to cut into this body to accomodate the motor and the front/rear bumper mounts. Oh well.. I gotta learn to cut lexan better. (I'll post pics of the cut body later)

http://www.juggernaut23.com/E-Maxx%2...%20A%20035.JPG

I was gonna go all silver but why not try for a purple Super G-Maxx. Might as well.. I think it looks sweet.. What do you think?? I hope to get this up and running soon.

Gotta go get me some 40 series Mashers and Bow Ties. Too bad the Proline 40 series wheels are so ugly.. Mambo and Velocity 6.. bah humbug!!!

Chase023 02.15.2005 04:25 AM

Here is the Body!

I did some minor cuts to the body to accomodate the motor.
I really like this F-350 Extended body. I added a motor cover and a wing out of thicker lexan sheets.

http://www.juggernaut23.com/E-Maxx%2...-350%20010.JPG

You're probably wondering, why the heck doesn't he have any wheels and tires after all that? Its a story for another day. LOL
Anyhow, Yes they are on their way but I will have to settle with Proline 40 series Velocity 6 with 40 series Mashers until I get my Custom wheels. I did get an extra set of 40 series bowties just incase the mashers don't hold up and perform too well. I can't wait till I get some custom 40 series beadlocks and yes I will emphasize less weight on these compared to my Jugg2 and TXT-1 beadlocks.

The JuggMaxx/JumboMaxx custom beadlock wheels with tires on that I have are about 1 lbs 9 oz and the TXT-1 Custom Beadlocks with Tires on my TXT-1 are about 1 lbs 6.8 ozs, which aren't too bad considering I didn't care too much about weight and those are more traditional straight axle looking Monster Trucks anyhow.

I will duct tape the insides of the tires to help it from ballooning up. It might help but not sure if it will cure it.

Chase023 02.15.2005 04:26 AM

Finally some pics with wheels on. Only thing missing is now the Spur and pinion to run it. I could just slap on the strobe and use the Ofna for now but I guess I will have to think about it before I buy another set just to test my E-Maxx. (The First set was sent out to get it modified to have custom single piece spur gears)

By the way I am still waiting on my custom 3D beadlock wheels so we will see whenever that gets done

Anyhow here are some new pics I took..
I might have to lower the ride slightly, I will have to see.
I also put a slight toe-in in the rear, like 1 degree or so.

I am still waiting on my Skid plate and wheelie bar.

I need to take some new pics of the completed Super G-Maxx with the new G3 Suspension Upper A-Arms I just got from GorillaMaxx.

I have some vids and I will post em later this week!

Chase023 02.15.2005 05:55 AM

Here is the Video Clip.

Its actually one split into 4. The original was like 590 Megs.

My Stock E-Maxx and my Super G-Maxx is running in the videos. In the clips there is a good amount of footage of the Stock E-Maxx as well.

Enjoy!

Super G-Maxx Test Run Part 1 (4.7 Megs)
Super G-Maxx Test Run Part 2 (8.3 Megs)
Super G-Maxx Test Run Part 3 (8.0 Megs)

I have to say - candymans truck got nothin on you - That is one absolutely awesome GMAXX - And for sure an incredible set of pictures to go with it - You guys are gonna make me build another Sweet A$$ G-Maxx. Not to run mind you - Just to bring around to the tracks and have people ( and myself mostly ) Drool over.. What else can i say - completely awesome.......

As for the ballooning tires - you might wanna try those Trinity Low Roll Foams - They work awesome - No more pizza cutter tires for me....

MaxxFusion 02.15.2005 10:40 AM

Chase023,

Glad to see ya here.

Any luck on those Deans? Also where did you get your tranny grears? There is only one place I know of that made them and no longer do.

rc4x4nut 02.15.2005 02:09 PM

Nice to see you here Chase. I honestly was going to stop working on my maxx but after seeing your truck again things change. I just got to get me a big maxx now.:D

RC-Monster Mike 02.15.2005 05:24 PM

Impressive! I have built and seen quite a few sweet e-maxxes, and that is without a doubt one of the nicest I have seen. It is pretty fast, too (although I would like to drag race it with one of my Feigao setups on the same cell count).
HotnCold - the low roll foams don't fit in the 40 series tires to my knowledge (well, they will fit, but won't be as effective:))

HotnCold 02.15.2005 05:27 PM

didnt remember they were 40 series - it was quite early in the morning when i posted - :-p

Chase023 02.15.2005 06:02 PM

HotNCold, Thanks for looking. I actually had the G-Maxx chassis and the Plettenberg BigMaxximum when Candyman was building his BlingMaxx. He got his first then after like 2 weeks I got mine. I had it almost a year and now I am using it. My tires aren't balooning due to my duct taping those tires hehe..

Netman, I am still looking.. All I remember is that I bought those deans accidently when I bought something else. I bought two sets of the Ultramaxx gears when it first came out from Dan, the guy who started the project to make em. During that time I was thinking about getting them made out of stainless steel or hardened steel instead of aluminum.

RC4x4Nut, thanks.. I am glad I could be of any help to get you back on Maxxing. hehe.. I must say tho my first is the Juggernaut and my Juggernaut project actually dwarfs this, isn't that funny? It is still going on tho.. Custom Custom Custom.. takes so long to get parts made and done.. phew..

RC-Monster Mike Thanks..
I do need to change the 72T spur gear I was using in the runs. Right now I just put in a 65T after I installed my new G3 Upgraded Upper A-Arms (I replaced the original G3 arms the other day because they got bent a little), so I hope it works well until I get my Module 1 spur and pinions. I hope to have between a 45-72T module 1 set of spur gears and a good range of pinions to help match good gearing for this.

Great group of people here..
I'll have to post my other project on here for fun one of these days hehe..

RC-Monster Mike 02.15.2005 06:33 PM

I have a Jugg2, but I bet it doesn't compare to yours! I was into the crawlers a couple years ago, but the e-maxx is my ride of choice lately (well, for a couple years!). I would love to see your jugg project. It may just put some spark into me to get something done on my jugg or clodzilla.

Chase023 02.15.2005 06:47 PM

Where should I post a Jugg project?

RC-Monster Mike 02.15.2005 06:50 PM

Good question! How about in the general discussion section.

rc4x4nut 02.15.2005 07:38 PM

So is your jugg project running yet? I have been tracking for a long time and I have never seen it run. I would check RCMT but supposedly I have to sign up again. I dont think I will go to that forum again. I have found a home here.:D

gorillamaxx 02.16.2005 12:05 AM

Jay - I'm so glad to see your post here - Awesome!
Thanks for taking time to share - I cant wait for more!

Chase023 02.16.2005 06:00 PM

I will post my Jugg Dread Project on here soon in the General Discussion or the Brushless Discussion area. Oh yeah Mike, the Juggy isn't really a crawler, its more for Power :D
I hope you guys will enjoy that one!

RC 4x4 Nut, The Jugg isn't running yet because a bit more custom parts needed and I am still waiting for my spur and pinion gears.

Thx George, so this is where you hang out eh..hehehe..

I hope to get some more videos with the New Beefed up G3 Upper A-Arms I just received from George and thank you very much for such a great service (The New beefier A-Arms only weigh 0.1 oz more than the first version).
Next Video will be using 65T spur instead of the 72T I was using for the first video, so I hope it will be slightly faster.
I eventually will be using the Module 1 spur and pinions but for now I am just using the 32pitch while I wait for those custom gears.

ryanvm777 02.16.2005 10:27 PM

That is a really nice truck. I wonder what it will do on the street in a speed run with the 65t gear. Watch out for curbs!!! I purchased the venom speadometer for testing different gearing, I just need to install it.

Chase023 02.22.2005 01:05 PM

Here are the new Beefier Upper A-Arms for the G3 Suspension.

Thanks George.. I'll test em soon.

http://www.juggernaut23.com/E-Maxx%2...x%20A-Arms.JPG

I need to take some new pics with the new A-Arms and the wheelie bar.

The weight went from 7 lbs 0.5 oz to like 13 lbs with wheels and batteries.. Phew.. the body alone weighs like 5-7 ozs.

I think my G-Maxx will be okay at 13-14 lbs, tho I might think of putting it on a diet maybe.

RC-Monster Mike 02.22.2005 07:00 PM

Holy heavy! My aluminum race G-maxx weighs in at just over 8 pounds with 12 gp3300s. I think I can get it in the low 7 pound range with LiPos.

Chase023 02.22.2005 07:07 PM

LOL lets see a picture of it.. I would like to see what parts on mine makes it much heavier than yours..LOL

RC-Monster Mike 02.22.2005 07:11 PM

I am currently performing a little maintenance, but will post pictures when it is all back together. I may sneak under 8 pounds with the 12 gp batteries!

RC-Monster Mike 02.23.2005 11:04 PM

Here are a few things that jump out:

Bulkheads - I use Integy (not the strongest, but the lightest aluminum bulks I have seen)

Tranny - Mine is plastic (case AND lower gear), and only has one set of gears in it (2nd gear).

Shift servo - see tranny!

Chassis - I use the CF upper plates with the aluminum bottom

Wheels/tires - I use plastic wheels with cut down bowtie tires (trim some out of the middle, as well as some of the circumference). Cut about an ounce or so from each tire.

Motor/controller - Quite a bit of weight savings here. the schulze is pretty heavy compared to a warrior, and the Plett is a heavy motor, too. This is probably worth 3-4 ounces Lehner basic xl is under 8 ounces)

Skids - G-maxx skids are 33% lighter than the stock plastic, and stronger. Your skids (front) are no doubt heavier than stock.

Bumpers - I don't use them!

Shocks - lighter weight means I can also get away with 4 shocks (depending on the track), which means even lighter weight!

That is what sticks out at me. there may be a few other small details as well. It all adds up!

RC-Monster Mike 02.23.2005 11:10 PM

Yours is definately prettier than mine, though!

Chase023 02.24.2005 02:21 AM

Sounds about right..
Tho I do like mine as is and it is pretty tough from some of the tumblings I have done.

I don't mind the truck being close to 13 lbs with everything on it and with 18 cells. I wanted a tough truck that would withstand bashing so I guess being little heavy aint too bad heh

rc4x4nut 02.24.2005 10:42 AM

13 lbs:eek: that is a beast.

Megazone23 02.24.2005 12:27 PM

It may be heavy, but in the immortal words of Shaft...

He's one bad mother...
Shut yo mouth! :D

Where'd you get the aluminum tranny case?

Chase023 02.24.2005 01:20 PM

Thanks..

I bought that aluminum E-Maxx Tranny case a while back from GPM. If enough people want one, I may just get me a small bulk order but I would have to see what colors I should stock as long as I can get enough people.
I might even have some of these little servo holders as well. I have 3 types for now made due to the difference in servo tabs from Airtronics to Hi-tec and etc.
http://www.juggernaut23.com/Misc/Servo%20Clamp%202.jpg

I am thinking of getting a small aluminum spur gear/motor pinion cover for my Super G-Maxx so I can grease up the spur and pinion to keep some of the grease within the casing to keep it smooth due to the fact that it is a metal to metal mesh.

Also using 4030 heat treated steel for the spur and pinion. It is a very hard metal but we will see how it goes. Yes I do know and hear alot about the negatives of metal to metal on spur/pinion.

Below is a PSI rating for each of the different types of metal that is commonly used.

4340 heat treated 210,000psi
plain steel 63,800psi
6061 aluminum 45,000psi
Brass 55,800psi
303 Stainless 100,000psi
6AL4V Titanium 138,000psi

Anyhow...
13 lbs.. well its not that bad.. Even at that weight, it flies and is really quick due to the Monster Motor (BigMaxximum). Oh by the way I have slightly bent my Savage wheelie bar set up from Integy on my E-Maxx (slightly modded to fit my E-Maxx). Even if it is Integy, its still a slightly thick piece of aluminum but with all that power on tap it still bends.

Sylvester 02.27.2005 01:04 PM

MaN Thats one nice looking truck! Someday i might have the funds to do something like that. Good job man .

Chase023 03.03.2005 03:23 PM

Last week, I made another run and dang in 5 mins I stripped all 4 hexes on my Velocity 6 40 series wheels, unglued all 4 tires, and put a bunch of bumps all over my suspension arms due to spinning out on a small pebble road. I also damaged my batteries and I have to take apart and resolder and re-shrink wrap some cells.

Even with the 65T spur and 24T pinion, its still a monster and very violent especially on the launches if you don't watch the throttle. The pinion never stays on so I will be happy whenever I get my Module 1 thick pinions made.

Oh yeah, I also detached my rear wing, but one good note is that the new G3 Upper Beefier A-Arms held up in a few crashes. I will still have to see how it does on my next run after I fix a bunch of small things.

I really gotta get a ramp and jump this and see it fly. I am assuming I can probably do 30-35 mph+ on first gear and in the mid and high 40s in 2nd gear. That is just a guess but it is really quick in either gear. I need a radar gun or GPS to get some real actual MPH but I must say its fast regardless.

Chase023 03.23.2005 04:46 AM

Cleaned up the Super G-Maxx, Replaced the A-Arms, replaced the Wheelie bar, replaced stock with purple HardCore body cross braces, and etc.
I need to go create a custom wheelie bar because I don't think this one will hold without a brace on the bumper. It fell apart a few times due to the power of the P-BMaxximum.

Anyhow here are some new pics.

It will be a while till I get some Custom 40 Series Beadlocks.

These are my custom TXT-1 Beadlock and my JumboJugg Custom Beadlock. The 40 series is gonna be really sweet.

One hell of a truck, great job and thanks for the vid, and to think i had to give up the machining course this year.

Chase023 03.25.2005 03:24 AM

I just reweighed my Super G-Maxx and it tops out at 10 lbs 11 ozs with the batteries and body on.

Only thing missing is the wheels/tires which probably weigh between 2-4 lbs total.

Dace bulkheads are lighter. I think the VBS towerless aluminum skid is even lighter (actually according to their site it is 50 grams lighter than the lightest competitor! Which is Dace Mfg.)

RC-Monster Mike 03.27.2005 10:48 AM

I truly doubt the Dace stuff is lighter than the Integy stuff. I have the towerless VBS on one of my trucks, and the Integy setup with Maximizer diffs and Integy cases is slightly lighter as I recall.

Serum 03.27.2005 11:53 AM

do you use the towerless VBS with 1/8th diffs or with the traxxas sizes diffs?

RC-Monster Mike 03.27.2005 11:54 AM

1/8 diffs. I don't think the vbs is available to use with the traxxas diffs.

supermaxx4190 03.27.2005 12:25 PM

wow thats quick

Serum 03.27.2005 12:40 PM

Wrong forum?

What's quick?

I'll look for a pic of a scale:) Do you run plastic shock towers?

The vbs can use stock differentials
