Any failures with MMM V2 and ext. BEC?

Have the MMM V2's been burning out the internal BEC even when using an external BEC?

This would be with the red wire removed from the MMM throttle lead?

Cheers Andrew

That is how I am going to run my fifth one when I get it. Some people have smoked the whole esc but the bec failure sound far more common. My 2 I am pretty sure failed due to bec failure.

I've been running mine with external bec and fan since I got it, running 4s/6s no problem so far, check out my fan grill mod

i use DE SportBec http://www.dimensionengineering.com/SportBEC.htm

IIRC, there has been a failure or two with an external BEC. Using an external one sure can't hurt, but we are assuming it's a load issue. Maybe it isn't but simply a bad batch of switcher ICs. Anyway, it can't hurt, but just wanted to state that it may not be the end-all solution.

Given that some people (ie me) seem to be able to kill them with in minutes on multiple occasions my guess is that it does have something to do with load or voltage.

This isn't true. The esc bec is still powering the brains of the ESC, thus having some load still.

ptt81 09.03.2008 02:34 AM

i know that, I meant load from RX, servos and fan

No worries. I always imagined it's a faulty component that is failing even under a very light load.

BrianG 09.03.2008 03:07 AM

I am kinda thinking the same thing...

JaySki 09.03.2008 08:49 AM

Been running with a Novak BEC with no issues thus far... (Knock on wood)

got my two MMM v2 back and install one in my 1/8 jammin truggy without using any external BEc ran on the track with 4s and 6s lipo ,so far no problems and working flawlessly using NEU 1515 2.5 D

I have been running the CC BEC with my V1 since I got it and it is still running strong

entjoles 09.08.2008 10:47 PM

got my v2 back on sat. , got it installed and decided to use a ccbec to see how long it would last , bench tested and got about 10 sec. of running and my ccbec smoked , so i went inside and took off the ccbec and put the red wire back in the plug and bench tested it , went back outside and got like 15 sec. before it was acting like it was losing signal , and then nothing...............dont know what to say except i was hoping it would last as it will snow here in a month or so and i want to run

so when i get it back from repair i am not going to bother turning on the iron , i will hook it up and see how long it lasts

oh and a side note i did leave settings at default except i changed the lvc to 13.2v

MTBikerTim 09.08.2008 11:20 PM

Why did the ccbec smoke?

entjoles 09.08.2008 11:31 PM

well i have 2 things in mind

the first is i wanted to change the output v on the ccbec and it didnt work , i dont know if i needed a diff program from cc or ? although it was soldered to the esc. the batterys were not hooked up.........

the second thing i was thinking was that i plugged it in and left the esc. switch off , then i went outside , i live in an apartment so the ccbec was on because the batterys were hooked up and it took about 2 min. for me to put the body on and go outside to run.....??

dont know , i just hope that the servo and rx are ok , they seemed to work good the second time i tryed to run until the esc. quit??

ptt81 09.09.2008 02:30 AM

thats weird, if you managed to fry the ccbec, there is a chance you have fried the MMM bec in the exact same way, thats quite a coincidence, something must be wrong with your setup, like a short in wiring somewhere that you are not aware of may be. I've been running my V2 MMM flawlessly thru 6 packs so far with SportBec and fan wired to RX directly

entjoles 09.10.2008 12:06 AM

well idecided to try one more thing before i send it back and it fired right up!!!!!!!!!!

it links with usb so i left the red wire in and used a rx pack and it works

i hope i will get some running with it as is for awhile , and wait to send it back

Good to hear it's working!!!!

Did you plug the rx pack directly into the battery port of your rx? What about the fan?

entjoles 09.10.2008 12:11 AM

yes , i just hope it holds for awhile , i want to run my truck so bad

she will get beat but good asap:rules:
