Jato Vs. Havoc
What’s going on everyone.... I'm brand new here I ran across this forum as I was doing a google on the Jato Vs. the Havoc. I was at the Traxxas website and was reading about the new Jato I went to Hobbytown and the manager was telling me about this new truck from Schumacher called the Havoc. Like the Jato it is RWD and is running 50+ out of the box. They're calling it a "stunt truck" I'm a fan of Traxxas but this Havoc has me pretty intriuged... It has a .28 engine one speed trans. It looks pretty tough. Has anyone drove one of these yet or can anyone give any opinions?
Thanks in advance! |
Havoc.
That simple. :) |
Yeah i'd say Havoc too.useless on a race track but then the jato isn't legal without mods so you'd get a losi or associated for that anyways.
it's alot of power for a light rwd truck though, traction will always be the limiting factor.easy out drag a jato though if you can keep the thing straight. I'd like to try the 11 port Sirio in that thing.Has a ball diff i think though which would concern me a bit, although if you keep it tight it should be OK.If it must be nitro though i think i'd get the losi AD2 for the handling or the HPI MT2 since it's 4wd. |
I saw that truck at the IHobby Expo in LosAngeles last week. The guy at the booth gave a pretty good presentation about it. It looked pretty impressive. Me and my brother were both impressed. I told the guy I may have considered it if it were 4wheel drive but he said they were going for more of a stunt truck with it and it performed better with 2wheel drive.

I'm also hearing very possitive things from the jato, it's very fast.
My guess is that it's lighter than the havoc, though the havoc i powered with a bigger engine. |
i would go jato...or get left behind. i think the jato will have much more after market items than the havok and it would be easier getting parts. although, i am not familiar with the havok. im assuming it will do about 80 or so knowing schumacher.

It could be geared higher than 50 i'd say with the right big block.(50 is plenty though)My LST can hit 45 with a sirio 11 port and that weighs 5.5 kg.You need to buy 3 gears at a time though i guess.i think the shumacher are not an internal 2 speed,it's multiple spurs and pinions isn't it? Jato you can change gearing by just a different clutch bell i think.
I think the sensible money goes on the Jato though,it's a known quantity and you can't really go wrong with it,and i guess the sirio .23 fits? if you feel the need for more power,i'm guessing it has as much power as traction on most surfaces already though. |
I too am a big fan of Traxxas. I have 3 Maxxas' (1 T & 2 E's). Having never driven either car, I can't say whch is better. I can tell you though I prbobably would have bought the Havoc on the spot if it were 4wd. It appeared to be a little more "beefed up" stock vs. stock over the Jato.

I have a Jato and despite some growing pains (new to nitro), i haven't regretted the decision to buy it.
I'm planning to run it on a dirt oval this weekend. It is supposed to be a big track (A friend of mine said about 200ft straights), so this should be fun. It won't be a race, but a test and tune because the track just got finished and they haven't set up the rules yet. We'll see if they throw me off the track. |
The Havoc is 1 speed (not 3 as some people think) maybe 3 speed will an option later on :-)
It's classed as a Stunt Truck & 1/8 scale... was originally 1/10 until they beefed it up, bigger engine/tyres etc Was supposed to be out this week but there been 1-2 weeks delay.. more info @ http://www.racing-cars.com/main.asp shummy homepage :-) & check: http://www.racing-cars.com/forum/for...841&PN=1&TPN=5 details of the tranny components... excellent quality imo compared to others :-) I dont plan on buying a Havoc simply because i already have 2 XTR's & just splashed out on a new FG MB Pro :-) |
Thanks for the info, drivetrain looks beefy to say the least, guess there's no need to worry about the ball diff.
Here's a linky to the video: http://www.cs-electronic.com/Schumacher/Havoc/havoc.php |
Here in Holland it is sold as a three speed, according to as far as i know schumacher, i thought it was likely they would make it a three speed. That's why i stated the three speed part.
That balldiff is something special! many balls and preformed rings. Looks like it uses large balls as well. here it is, for the Dutchies among us.. A little translation help; They say that with the drieversnellingsbak (three speed transission) it is able to pop the 80 km/h I read the article on the schumacher site too, it comes with a ONE speed. |
Hi again :-)
I think originally the Havoc was designed with 3 speed which is capable of 65mph+ from stock (my XTR's with 1 speed reches 50+) However they are not rleasing it at launch with 3 speed, some people say they had probs with the transmission etc but shummy have said nothing about why they are not releasing it with 3 speed at launch...heres my opinion: Havoc was designed from ground up with the 3 speed gearbox in mind, Tried & tested.. Schumacher are not new to the 3 speed gear box thing as they have successfully already released offroad models which use it (XTR3-e & Menace) So why would they not put it on the Havoc at launch...simple really... Keep initial cost down of the kit, which atm is about £250 which imo is a damn good price for a top-end 1/8 truck Also gives Havoc customers something to look forward to in the near future...a 3 speed hop-up for there Havoc... which has already been tried/tested so its 1 less thing for schummy to worry about, all they need to decide is when to release it. Lets face it, Customer buys a Havoc, They think it's great...they are deciding what to buy to hop it up, Shummy release a 3 speed gear box...Havoc customers buy it asap...nice profit/turnover for shummy on the financial side & keeps havoc customers happy...no idea on price of the 3 speed if/when its released but im guessing it will be around the £100 mark (maybe slightly less).. Its a good step shummy have taken imo... keeping the initial cost down of a quality 1/8 truck/MT is a good call as there is much competetion for this type of RC atm such as LST/Savage etc but Havoc is the cheapest out the lot but imo not the least quality, As said earlier Havoc is classed as a stunt truck (something new i guess!) we all know how strong the savage is but looking at the build quality of the havoc its going to give the savage a run for its money in terms of strength... its a very simple design with top end tranny... excellent combo for stunts/jumps. This aint the 1st time shummy have taken this step, the 1st off road they released (XTR) was also single speed at launch, then they released a 3-speed gearbox, I myself own 2 XTR's but have never bothered with the 3 speed, reason being is i mainly use them offroad & hitting 70mph+ offroad is not a bright idea :-) Also the fact that even with single speed on tarmac, the XTR's are damn fast...so i didn't feel i wanted more speed :-) I can bet with even the 1 speed the Havoc will go fast with ALOT of power as its only 2WD. This is another thing people were suprised about, why not 4WD? ...Because they already have a 4WD 3 speed (Menace) The XTR's are now discontinuned but all the parts are still available for them directly from shummy. The Havoc will be the next XTR with better technology/stronger/bigger..XRT in its day was (imo) the best 1/10 truck there was..nothing came close in terms of speed for a 1/10 truck.. Some people say they were weak but from my own experiance with the 2 i own they are a damn tough truck, if you hit a solid object at even 40mph+ (XTR's could reach 50+mph with single tranny) you can be sure no matter what truck it is..something will break! I used to run my XTR's regulary & believe it or not they are still in the same form as they were from when i bought them! ..no hop-ups (apart from slipper clutch) & no alloy etc, only thing ive had to replace was a header pipe..& this was because a REAL car ran over my XTR during break-in! :-( other than the header being bent the rest of the truck was fine! Anwyayz imo shummy are onto a winner here, good quality/strong & big with a nice price tag & id be very suprised if shummy dont release the 3 speed option within a few months after launch :-) |

I am seriously thinking about getting one, i couls toss in a large motor.. It has got a nice drivetrain, and i always liked the products from schumacher, they are a little different..
|
Honestly, compares more to the Stadium Maxx than Jato. It is very impressive.
