New Chassis..but which one.....????

I've decided to redo my E-revo conversion this winter to go to the 3.3 length chassis. But, as with all things in this hobby, there is a decision to make. Do I go with the blue anodized chassis, or try to do it with the new E-Revo Chassis. The latter is cheaper to start with (only 25 bucks)...but then there are quite a few add ons (skids, covers, etc), and I'd likely have to convert to the new tranny. I'd also have to fight the battery tray issue (I currently run A123's).
Personally, I'm leaning towards the metal chassis. Anyone else have any thoughts on challenges with the new chassis?

I prefer the plastic chassis, but since you are going with a123 packs, the metal chassis with something like a tekno battery tray sounds like the best bet...

gorillamaxx - they seem to be going cheaper and work great with A123

I'll probably reuse the battery trays I made for the 2.5 (I make jets for a living - so I'm fairly good with aluminum).

The G2R/G3R is too high of an investment for the type of driving I do (hard bashing). I have the G-Maxx, and I'm afraid to drive it at all.....my B'in law decided not to purchase it from me (wifey put the clamps on him!).

Sounds like a plan, I have not purchased a g-maxx truck for the same reasons...

I went with plastic erevo chassis, plan to run 6s2p in the form of two 6s 'side by side' a123 packs, one will each fit in each tray, and stick out one or two cm, which ill just run a velcro strap over. Just need to get some more cells to rig it all up :)

Did you start a thread on your build? Looking forward to seeing your setup.

Sammus 09.04.2008 09:15 AM

Not yet.. I'm half way thru it, got a bit carried away and didnt think of making a thread about it :P. I'll add some pics to my original revo build thread when I get home (couple days).

why not just run the vantage 3.3 chassis?

Sammus 09.04.2008 11:28 PM

why not? carbon fibre is stupid on a monster truck, not to mention its made for nitro, and you would have to mod it to work with electric, then finally it costs over 5x as much. Plennya reasons :P

well for me, my truck is a conversion the carbon chassis is stronger and half the weight of stock, thats enuff for me

JERRY2KONE 09.05.2008 08:49 AM

But???

Yea but like he said he is a hardcore basher and wants something that will hold up to the punishment. We have seen a few people use the carbon fiber stuff on an MT project, and they have ended up braking the rig in half due to a big air jump. Carbon fiber is great for really lite weight applications, but when you put any serious weight to it you end up with a shattered build. It is an expensive risky investment, when there are better materials for what he is trying to do.

My reason for not using the Vantage is that with using the 3906 EMaxx tranny, I have to do a bunch of grinding on the driveshaft "tunnel" area - and that will be more detrimental to the CF strength (compared to AL), and much more detrimental to my resperitory system!

Dafni 09.05.2008 08:53 AM

If you look for a stock revo chassis PM me up. Got a couple of new 2.5 and 3.3 chassis lyin around. Wouldn't mind passin them on P-I-F style.

daf

Sammus 09.05.2008 08:55 AM

To each their own :) I'm sure its a great chassis, I still think there are a lot of answers "why not?" - its ludicrously expensive would be the main one. Not to mention that yes its lighter, and no its not stronger. Good for a racer maybe.

bustitup 09.05.2008 11:47 AM

I like this style of conversion due to its "more balanced" configuration...the one you see here that I built has the 3906 tranny but I would suggest the 3905 tranny (with e-revo motor mount) due to its brushless ready gears...note the aluminum esc perch over the rear shocks...I can send more pics if interested in more detail

the chassis is a 3.3 that has been de-anodized and polished

sorry i didnt know it was just for bashing

i did strengthen my vantage set up by adding a hardcore racing one peace Ti skid plate

why not use the platinum chassis since it has suppousedley been strengthened in critical areas

Has it really? I couldnt find anything on the Traxxas site (from Traxxas) that states that.

TexasSP 09.06.2008 10:20 PM

My new conversion has the platinum chassis but I don't see anything different on it vs the 3.3 except length.

im pretty sure the platinum is the same length as the 3.3,my body holes still lined up after changeing from the platinum chassis to the vantage 3.3 chassis

I'm about 50 percent done with this swap over. I got a "standard" 3.3 from one of the members here. Everything is moving over quite easily - 'cept I've run into a little issue with the center shafts. I have the 3906 tranny with the Gmaxx single speed conversion. On my 2.5, I think I used two of the 2.5Revo front shafts (whichever one was the longest). I ordered the half shaft set for a new E-Revo, but they are the same dia as the driveshafts, and at least going to the rear, they wont clear the fwd corner of the bulkhead. What did you guys use for the centers?

BTW, I also picked up an E-Revo chassis to play with. Just from an initial look, there seems to be decent possibilities for aftermarket battery trays.
