Something new for me......

First, I became a moderator on URC, that was life changing and great. Then R/C Car magazine does a feature article on a project vehicle I did, even better. What pwns both of those? Today being my first day on the job at Hobby People!!!!

Truth is, I'm a temporary employee at the Santa Clarita HP store, brought on for "holiday help" basically. I've been good friends with most of the guys there anyway for the last few years, so the manager had no problem hiring me, and it was almost a given. Today was pretty boring, lots of sitting, and telling jokes......and being sent on missions to find random stuff around the store, to help me along in getting to know where junk is. I did get to field a phone call from a kid who had his Bandit's throttle trim screwed up (couldn't think of the reason why it was acting screwy at first), and even that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

NICEE!! convince them to stock up on some bl systems! CHANGE TEH WROLD FROM NITRO!!

dabid 11.02.2005 01:10 AM

I am a bit of a electric geek, don't know much on the nitro end and it showed today. However, the couple of E-dudes that showed up were easily taken care of, and given ideas for future stuff......but not just BL. ;)

I still have my Six Flags job, but that'll be for the weekend because they've gone to Friday, Saturday, Sunday only. All the other days I'll be at Hobby People.

Tomorrow is shipment day, which I'm actually looking forward to, because the guys said it'll help me get more aquianted with where stuff goes. I've always hung out in the cars section, so I know that pretty good, but it's all that darn "bird nerd" junk that messes me up! :D

MetalMan 11.02.2005 01:20 AM

Awesome! Maybe I should apply for a job at the HP near me. Only problem is school... Maybe during the summer.

It's too bad you haven't had any nitro experience. That sort of thing actually helped me learn the basics of car engines in general, and is great knowlegde to have.

dabid 11.02.2005 01:30 AM

Well, my nitro knowledge is a lot more general than specific, like I could probably tune or break in an engine........if I had to. Of course, I would probably be the last one to attempt it, as well as the last one to be called upon to do it. :D

i'll second that, as much as nitro and i don't get along -lol- Although i didn't learn too much (considering it got converted after about 3-4 months of it being nitro) i did get alot of basic info i had never bothered learning before :)

omg - isn't that place like a pretty big theme park??? Are they trying to make it exclusive or something? -lol- I dont get why they'd only be open 3 days out of 7! They must be too rich already -lol-

Well, when one has a RC helicopter with a 12 year-old engine that is mounted upside down, there can tend to be problems:
-overloading glowplug because fuel is directed down onto it
-gummed up parts from sitting for 10 years
-tough tuning

I did get it running back about a year or two ago, but the last time I tried it about 6 months ago, the engine would cut out at 1/3 throttle, so the helicopter wouldn't get off the ground.

Then there were the nitro car engines... I have gone through 3 of my own, and worked on my friend's TRX 2.5 quite a bit.

David, I think some time you should try nitro, just for the experience. That way, you can actually say that you like electric over nitro. Maybe with the employee discounts that would be easier :L:.

More like because it's getting cold now, kids have school, and people have no vacations.......everyone's gone back to their normal lives. There's no demand to be open during the week anymore, because they'd just lose money trying to pay the employee wages and operating costs.

EDIT: Travis, I know without even getting into it, no need to actually go so far as blowing money on one.

wow!! that kinda surprises me hey - but i spose everything is alot more spread out than it is here - i have like, 4 or 5 major theme parks all about 20-30 minutes away from my house, and they're all open every day of the week - Although we're prolly tourist capital of australia too -lol-

Well, it's good to hear u still got funding for the addiction then man! And what a place to work with an addiction as such! -lol-

dabid 11.02.2005 02:11 AM

I'm about an hour away from several other theme parks, Knott's, Disneyland, and Universal Studios. You guys are also opposite land as far as seasons go, right now we're going into fall, and it's cooling off.......you're about in spring and then summer, right?

danhfvcsd 11.02.2005 02:16 AM

ahh - i keep forgetting - winter here is still nice, warm and sunny, clear skies mostly -lmao-

yep yep - we're in Spring now - summer starts december here..... (i think - been so long since i been taught that stuff, and had to refer back to it -lol-)
We also get bummed out on white xmas's too! Always wanted one of them! -lol-

dabid 11.02.2005 02:21 AM

I wish it was like that here, be nice to have a warm and sunny December instead of the freaking 36" of rain we got last year!

Dafni 11.02.2005 06:56 AM

You're still lucky! Imagine knee deep snow for weeks!

Congrats on the job Dabid. As I already told you, I hope it goes well there.

nbcaznmaster 11.02.2005 07:17 AM

lol, its been a perfect 65 degrees over in my area!!

dabid 11.02.2005 02:51 PM

Well, cooling down is relative......it was 110 this summer, so even a 85 day like yesterday is cooler. Today's a nice 70, really good day to do junk outside.......like drive BL cars around! :D

Dafni 11.02.2005 03:08 PM

Yeah, driving BL RCs is a nice thing to do
Have you had your buggy running?

dabid 11.03.2005 02:03 AM

Nah, no buggy, they haven't seen that one yet outside of the magazine anyway. I did do some 14 celled Twin Force wheelies in the parking lot though, that was pretty fun. :)

Today was day #2 for me, and I was lucky enough to be there to help with the new shipment of 4 palets of junk! We had 5 guys (including me) running back and forth to get the stuff inside, and then the fun part began: putting it away! I did a lot of "on my feet" work today too, so I was less than enthusiastic to remember i had a night class tonight.......but the class wound up being kinda cool for a change, so it wasn't that bad.

Gotta love Southern California!

dabid 11.04.2005 02:20 AM

Getting a bit more familiar with the airplane stuff, that's the only section that's going to give me a hard time.........buncha darn confusing little widgets on that side! :D
