9S1P A123 Rustler in the works

I finally started working on my Rustler again. Was on the backburner for a while, when I moved over to those little pan cars. I started with 6s A123 and it was good with a lehner xl3100. But I wanted something new and exciting, so I put in a B50 L11 Hacker in there with either a 7s or 8s A123 pack. It just didn't do it for me, so 9s1P went in instead. After testing it a bit, I figured I just might have invented a RC lawnmover. The little testing I have done, made a big impression on me. Acceleration is just crazy. I'll post more as I finish this insane setup.

looks awesome, what speed is it geared for

snellemin 09.08.2008 03:11 PM

It's geared for 45mph for now.

MetalMan 09.08.2008 03:51 PM

Jeez, that's the same power that's pushing my ~12lb. Savage to the upper 40s. Couldn't imagine that sort of power in a truck half the weight and only 2WD!

suicideneil 09.08.2008 04:17 PM

I didnt think you'd fit 9 A123 cells in a rusty, but, they fit alright!

Should help keep it on all four wheels too when you punch the throttle....

brushlessboy16 09.08.2008 04:27 PM

gear that bad boy up for about 110 :D

snellemin 09.08.2008 04:31 PM

It launched straight with the custom(7075) 0 degrees rear arm mounts. The 1 degree FLM ones got bend pretty bad on 6s A123. Waiting on FLM for replacement cost.

1. NICE!
2. Ouch. :bad:

Takedown 09.08.2008 10:29 PM

Damn, nice to see atleast a few "gifted" individuals can break flm parts.

lydiasdad 09.08.2008 11:07 PM

Awesome, I ran 6s a123 with a 9xl in my rustler. It was fun. I can't imagine 9s.

TruckBasher 09.09.2008 12:35 AM

OMG you are giving this baby a power house that go push my 13lbs truck....How does those beadlock hold up...they look nice....

BL_RV0 09.09.2008 09:32 AM

It seems like they'd hold up about as well as they look. Solid chunks of alum can't break too easily.
BTW: What MGM is that?

snellemin 09.09.2008 10:11 AM

That is the 16024 with the old 3.12 firmware. The dirthawgs are belted with ductape and hold up well on the beadlocks.

Those beadlocks use to hold the roadrages just fine................The tires just didn't last long.

TruckBasher 09.09.2008 11:30 PM

what the.....

Ill order pizza let's cut it....

snellemin 09.10.2008 03:15 AM

Argh!!! The MGM let it's magic smoke out on 6s A123 with the same setup when I pulled the trigger, right after I plugged it in. Now I have to email MGM and hope they fix it for me.

that sucks, verry sick rustler, i thought my twin vxl powered 4wd rustler was over powered

snellemin 09.22.2008 12:05 AM

Got the MGM replaced with the 10S ESC from Lutach. This ESC puts out more power to the wheels them the MGM did. I blew the old slipper setup, that the MGM could not melt. After some suggestions, I upgraded to the jato slipper clutch and it can't hold the power either. Current gearing is 17/56 with a tight slipper.

Snapped a dogbone again this morning after swapping the spring on the slipper clutch. Putting in a beefier setup today.

lutach 09.22.2008 10:56 AM

That might be the baddest Rustler I've seen. Man 9S1P A123 is nice .

snellemin 09.22.2008 11:07 AM

Thanks to you Lutach. I have the urge to add another cell.
I peaked at 70+ Amps this morning.

bruce750i 09.22.2008 11:16 AM

I guess you need more power?

Man, you're having fun. I'm going to post something up in the ESC thread real soon and you'll see what happened at the end. The graph will tell everything . It just basically let me know the 10S ESC is very capable of powering a dragster for 2 sec. or less at a very unreal AMP rating for the 10S ESC.

lutach 09.22.2008 11:23 AM

How are the temps on your ESC?

snellemin 09.22.2008 11:31 AM

For the little bit that I have ran the ESC for, is was slightly warm and the motor last nite was 119F I believe.

snellemin 09.22.2008 01:29 PM

Just finished a run cut short by a busted up shock and snapped axle. Power is immense. Datalogger showed 126A peak and 2434 Watts.

lutach 09.22.2008 02:15 PM

:surprised: man, I might buy a dragster to see how the ESCs does. You're having too much fun  with your Rustler. I still have to finish my SSG chassis/FLM hybrid Stampede.

snellemin 09.22.2008 02:31 PM

Rolling wheelies don't get old. I got too much air underneath the body causing me to cartwheel. I'll fix it up tonite. It's tons of fun now.

These were the calculated numbers

BL_RV0 09.22.2008 10:46 PM

What a moneypit! Too fun...

snellemin 10.11.2008 11:27 PM

Lutach's ESC is kicking butt. It's dragrace worthy. It was able to pull my A123 cells down to 2V per cell(about 76C discharge).

These are the calculated peak numbers.

Awesome snellemin, keep those numbers coming. Lets see how much more abuse the ESC can take.

BL_RV0 10.12.2008 12:13 PM

Why are you running 48p?

snellemin 10.12.2008 12:30 PM

I run .8 mod, 32P and 48P gears depending on the setup. I have more gearing option with 48P then with the bigger gears. The 48P handles the 6s1p quite well. I wouldn't try it on 9s1p though.

BL_RV0 10.12.2008 12:42 PM

Yeah... I ran steel on steel 48p gears on my rustler at one time and the pinion was literally GLOWING red after speed runs with a 6xl on 4s. The motor didn't like the setup too much either... Melted my tranny case. Temp was between 260 and 280 on the motor's final run.

snellemin 10.13.2008 11:24 AM

That must of been a site to see the pinion glow.
