IFMAR off road worlds

So who has been watching any of the racing on LiveRC of the 1/8 off road worlds .

Apart from the first three days with the rain problems , today seems to be getting alot better .
I'm currently watching ( it's 11.30 pm over here ) on LiveRC but have to get some sleep for work in 6 hours .

I realy like the track with the changes in surface and different obstacles , wish they would build a track like that down here but we follow US trends and our tracks are supercross style / blue groove.

gixxer 09.18.2008 09:52 AM

I haven't watched any video but I have seen pictures of the track. I really like it too. I am not really a fan of the huge jumps we have for 8th scale over here.

BlackedOutREVO 09.18.2008 10:05 AM

Im loving the thin tires there running/were running

GO Team HotBodies!!!!!!!

I bought the special subscription to the video feed and it's amazing. Worth every penny. SO cool to watch the best in the world deal with that crazy mud track! And now the drive-line is hard and slick. Gotta be versatile. They are amazing to watch. The word that comes to mind watching them is relentless. They never let up. When racing is on, it's all the way, all the time.

magman 09.18.2008 09:27 PM

Anyone got a link to the races?

Back to the wide tires today since the track has dried out .

The narrow tires were used in the mud and they cut and chopped them through the centre to get them that narrow , similar to what we have been doing in rc crawling.

cornolio 09.21.2008 04:18 PM

WOW!!!4 hotbodies on the a main!

cornolio 09.21.2008 05:40 PM

hara/D8 hotbodies wins it!!!

DRIFT_BUGGY 09.21.2008 05:44 PM

No, I didn't really mind who won aslong as HB or AE weren't the winning buggy

BlackedOutREVO 09.21.2008 07:07 PM

HB's RULES!!!!!

That right there proves, the price of every other buggy out there is stupid, and there is no reason to buy a 900 dollar K car, or really anything else!

Hara RULES!

rootar 09.21.2008 08:31 PM

i wouldnt take it that far, the D8 is a great buggy, and i agree that all the other buggies are over priced, but come on Hara is just an amazing driver he could win under any brand.

BlackedOutREVO 09.21.2008 08:53 PM

Exactly, drive makes the car. So why does a more expensive car make you faster? If you suck, then buying a expensive car wont change that. Im not saying thats anyone here, just in general...

rootar 09.21.2008 10:03 PM

http://www.hotbodiesonline.com/news/en/2008092101.html

they are ready have their site updated, i would too if i was them thats big news.

i agree if i were to by a new buggy itd be an 808 or the D8 because they are simple, they do what they need too do and are mostly plastic (which is lighter and more flexible, easier driving)

anyone else notice how LIMITED the D8 is for adjustments? there are no ackerman options, very shock mounts, i think only two camber options front and rear i might be mistaken tho but i remember it being extremely simple.

tc3_racer_001 09.21.2008 10:05 PM

theres a guy on a local forum who insists xray is the only way to win. anything else is outdated or heavy or weak or something else. it pisses me off alot, as every thread he usually comments, saying something like "an xray would have been better" or " ud go faster with an 808" bla bla bla... im sure its a great car but dissing others thats just hilarious. im glad the d8 won. where there any hypers there? had a browse through the photos and didnt see any.

BlackedOutREVO 09.21.2008 11:16 PM

Yeah its funny, Wheeler, or anyone Xray didnt even make the A.

I know there was some hyper 9's there, Im pretty sure none of them made the A. This was a cool race, it was pretty much the first time out for alot of cars, HB's, Losi, Mugen, Kyosho, Hobao, Big bores on the AE cars, Jammin ETC....

Now I need a buggy to convert to BL LOL

fromdaboz707 09.21.2008 11:56 PM

the kyosho guys have had the mp9 for about a month the other drivers have had there cars much longer Ty was running his d8 at he nats i think. the mp9 is going to be a great car yes it is a little bit high on the price but once you drive a kyosho you will never go back. I have been racing mine for almost 2 gallons of gas and i have not broke anything yet!!!!!

BlackedOutREVO 09.22.2008 12:01 AM

Been there, done that...

No I havent had a MP9, and never will. No way in hell am I going to spend 900 bucks on a K car, For what its worth, I could have 3 D8's for the price of one K car. Not saying it isnt a kick arse car, just WOW on the price tag...

rootar 09.22.2008 12:27 AM

alot of people are brand loyal and then for some cost doesnt matter they just want what they want and you cant tell them other wise. i dont care what brand it is as long as it works and works good.

yes you could have 3 d8's but u would you would use 2 of them for parts.... With the kyosho you can just buy one and unlike most buggys out right now it comes with all of the hop ups..

I would only recommend the mp9 to a serious racer.

ffactory666 09.22.2008 05:07 AM

My D8 is in transit and should have it next week , i pre ordered it over a month ago :yipi:
It will be the base for my CORR truck conversion , i couldn't get past the price and knowing HB/HPI have some of the toughest plastics in the buisness so don't let the price put you off , the buggy will be durable

Don't forget a lot of people doing brushless conversion use the HB diff gears in there diffs as they are known for being some of the toughest and at a good price , so saying you will need to buy two D8s for spares is very ignorant fromdaboz707 .

Any way congrats Hara and HB .

jayjay283 09.22.2008 05:14 AM

I used to run nothing but Kyosho back in Cali (asian hobby shop, all over cheap) I cant imagin the MP9 is 2 times better than the 8T to deserve its price tag. Id like to buy one and be like " OMG this is the best car ever" but really cant be twice as nice. Just a rip off

DRIFT_BUGGY 09.22.2008 05:22 PM

Gotta love rc tech. They come up with the best topics

So i took a look at the world champs d8 and the one that is being sold and the world champs d8 has a different chassis on it !!!! So this makes me think what els is different about his car form the one being sold??? I =t also looks like the world champs car also has tritium....

DRIFT_BUGGY 09.23.2008 12:48 AM

With the 2008 Worlds now past, not quite a distant memory but cherished by some, forgotten by others we look foward in time and ask Where will the 2008 Worlds be held ?

As per IFMAR, the World Championships will be held by FEMCA (Asia) pending their acceptance. As of last week, FEMCA had received 3 applications to host the words:
1. China (near Hong Kong)
2. Thailand (Pattaya)
3. Australia (Queensland)

FEMCA will make the decision within 6 weeks and IFMAR will make the final decision at their AGM in Thailand later this year. Stay tuned to Neo Buggy for more news.

God, I hope it is coming to Qld

Hara had some modifications on his buggy - Taller rear shock tower, longer rear shocks, lightnened chassis and drive train parts. Probably more aswell. But you can buy the buggy for $380 :rules:

Did you have a look at the Losi , AE , Kyosho or Mugen buggies ? Don't think you have since most are modified and not box stock at the worlds so what is the point of your comment ?

Not many pros run there vehicles box stock .

And Ty for you information who was in the finals ran his D8 buggy totaly stock so there is no need for mods to be done for the club racer to be competitive.

Look i'm not brand loyal and will buy whatever car AE , Losi ,Mugen etc and have owned most and all have there weak and good points and i enjoy them all , but this just shows that manufacturers can produce world championship vehicles for a great price and should force other manufacturers to reduce the prices of future kits . I think HB will be a winner with new racers coming into the hobby .
Lets see a new racer to the hobby walks into a hobby store and sees a racing buggy for $850 ( K car ) and another for $370 which has world champion on the box , which do you think he will buy

Drift i'm with you bro and hope it comes to Oz but i'm going even if it's in Hong Kong or Thailand .
They are next door to us , cheap to travel there and would make a great holiday .

Being a Vic boy i find this hard to say but go QLD .

On another note which you will be interested in Drift the Losi 2.0 will be out in 5 days and is looking nice with some good mods done to it .

Tritium? You sure about that? Where did you get that information from?

You know what you're talking about? Tritium (3H) is a Hydrogen isotope... meta-stable at ambient conditions, decomposes into Helium over time... I don't see where/how it would find a place in RC... unless, of course, it's just some fancy brand name, not true Tritium.

Just curious

I just said that because people have been saying that all of the HB drivers have been running there cars out of the and his was not box stock i was just pointing that out...

Only comment on the non box thing is that everyone is going on that a $380 can beat all these others buggies at the worlds but in actually reality, it is not the $380 kit.

Oh and the Kyosho box will more than likely say 7 time world champ or however many world championships they have won

tc3_racer_001 09.23.2008 07:25 PM

if QLD, then WHERE? i hope its qld, and hope even more its Brisbane. then i could actually go and watch for the week!!! yay. go QLD!

VintageMA 09.23.2008 10:07 PM

I was looking at the D8 when the first prototype pics hit the web and it was looking like a very nice vehicle. If I didn't have a XB8EC already I would get a D8. I also have liked the D4 for a long time as well.

Let's be realistic guys - whether you are talking about 1:1 racing or 1:8 racing it all about the driver. Slow is fast and fast is all over the place.

I was at LimeRock race track in CT about a year ago with my TT and it was my first time. I was a total retard going around the track trying to drive the sh*t out of it. I was had a older 60s guy join me who had been driving that track for over 40 years and he got behind the steering wheel of my car and slammed my times by more than 10 seconds a lap and it felt like he was driving as slow as the turtle crossing the track that caused the black flag to come out at one point was going - but he was slow and smooth and I was, well, a retard.

My point is that there are about 5-6 strong brands out there for any particular model type and utimately it comes down to the driver and the conditions of the race.

Give a pro a Hyundai and he'll beat the snoot out of you in a V8 M3.
