Well finally got it started :mdr:

This time unlike my X2 conversion i started straight off with the center diff , motor mount and servo tray etc . Next will be the battery tray .

Chose this route as that's the parts that need modding to get them to fit , so the rest of the buggy will be the standard build and should go smoothly without having to take things apart .

First couple pics are off the center diff and motor mount .
Thanks to Ty the HB team driver who test fitted the truggies center diff mounts to the D8 for me before the buggy was released to make sure they fit as you can only get a brushless motor mount for the truggy .

So in went the RCM motor mount and truggy front center diff mount . The diff fits perfect and tying them together is a Kingheadz alloy Lightining center diff top plate , no modding needed .
The only thing i changed from the box set up was going to 7000wt oil in the center diff instead of 4000wt as we know the torque of the brushless motor usualy requires this from the get go.

Next came out the trusty dremel . I cut the battery / servo tray behind were the normal hump battery pack would go as i decided to use this battery box for my receiver .

To get it to fit though i had to cut part of the rear left side of it for clearance of the motor pinion gear and to allow for gear mesh .

You can see were i cut if in the pic , then all that was left to do was attach the steering servo and put a couple of notches in the battery box lid to allow for the receiver antenna and future esc wiring to go through.
The steering servo lead just feeds at the bottom of the box as there was already a hole there.

That's it for now , lipo tray being fitted tomorrow .

A little more progress with the battery tray , front end and slash bumper fitted today .

So far about three hours into with only the rear end and shocks to go

Easiest kit i have ever built apart from some modding for the conversion .
Just trimmed the body roughly up front for now so i could get the bumper in the right spot , and the wheelbase is spot on .

Here is a close up of how i fitted the slash bumper , which actually turned out very easy and i hope the rear bumper works out this easily.

I just shaped the skid plate part of the slash bumper like the bumper in the D8 kit and installed it like the stock one sandwiched in between the front diff housing and chassis.
Then the support for the bumper fell perfectly on a spot on the front diff housing which has quite a thick bit of a flat surface area to it , so i just screwed the support straight to this part of the diff housing .

That's it for now

Im really liking this idea

Any way I can mount some 12mm hex rims. I really want to run the proline bead locks, and the new tires they have for the slash!

Looks great

I don't know ?
Like the idea of beadlocks though , wonder if there are 12mm adapters .

Might have to wait for the AE corr truck wheels whenever that is released .

Thanks for the compliment .

Got the idea from another guy on this forum who converted i think his xray , can't seem to find his thread though .
Anyway he got the brain thinking

BL_maxx 10.22.2008 04:16 AM

nice!!!

killjoyken 10.24.2008 11:46 AM

Any updates? I'm dying to see the finished truck. I did a similar conversion to my Sportwerks Turmoil but I really like the D8 for it's durability. My Savage and Firestorm are the toughest trucks I've ever owned and I want to have a HPI buggy to add to the collection.

ffactory666 10.24.2008 06:04 PM

No updates sorry .

Been a bit swamped with some other projects , but should be done by next weekend

Semi Pro 10.25.2008 12:47 AM

try running the axels stubs off of the lightning lsp for 12mm rims

Little update , she is nearly done .
Just need to mount the body and paint it .

Got some black Kyosho MP9 wheels off ebay for 20 US that were being parted from a kit and i think they look great . Attached the emaxx rear skid plate as well , just need to make a simple mount for the RPM silver rear bumper.
Since there doesn't seem to be many dramas with the MMM V3 i decided to use my new MMM V2 .I have downloaded the latest V3 firmware into the V2 and the V3 case is on it's way from CC .
The R1 Pro will now reside in my speed record car .Man it's alot neater without having to run an external bec.

Hooked it all up and took it for a little spin , but i will wait for the V3 case to be fitted before i fully test it out.

TheRandom1 11.08.2008 03:41 PM

Very darn nice!

What's_nitro? 11.08.2008 03:43 PM

That is one Bad(lands)-ass looking truck!

What wheels are those? I like 'em.

Steve182 11.08.2008 04:28 PM

Looks awesome with the Hardcorr body on top.

Not a huge fan of the wheels, but maybe when the body is painted it will change the look. What are the plans for the color scheme?

Thanks for the compliments guys . Tires are Proline Knuckles as i want to have some drifitng action around corners on the track

Body mounts will be finished today then i just have to paint the body black as i will be using the following skins on it modeled on Troy De Lucas corr truck .

Well she just needs paint , the rest is done and set up .
Received my MMM V3 case ( CC sent me two ) during the week and have transfered the brains and fan into it . Body mounts have been made , will have to see how the posts hold up . If they break i will have to get some alloy posts to attach to the mounts .

Crash Monkey 11.17.2008 12:53 PM

What are you waiting for! Get er' done and tell us how she drives. Awesome job mate. It looks very clean and well built. What did you mount the speedo on?

nativepaul 11.18.2008 06:01 PM

I've not seen a CORR truck before, I don't think we have them in the UK, but I do know that I like the look of that a lot. it looks like a truggy body to me but with the tyres fitting or close to fitting under the arches it looks infinitely better.

Did you have to use shorter wishbones like the kyosho landmax ones to get the buggy to fit under the body, did you use a body from a 1:5th scale truggy to get it wide enough? or do they make CORR style rallygame bodys? I recently converted my LSP2 to a scale look with a rallygame focus WRC body that is built a little wider to fit over a buggy, it looks great for tarmac that it sees most of its use on, for gravel and loose dirt too, but I cant fit the stock rounded off-road buggy tires under the arches and I have to put the stock buggy body back on to do serious off-roading which looks a little silly with big body posts sticking up from the shock towers and I always did prefer a scale look, if that body fits a standard buggy I would like to get one for when I need the knobbly tyres.

The Hardcorre body fits 1/8 buggy perfectly with no mods that's why i went with it . I was going to wait for the AE SC8 body but it has a longer wheelbase so would not work anyway .
Body being painted Friday so i will have more pics then , just a rattle can job as i couldn't wait for the Upgrade skins to arrive here .

nativepaul 11.19.2008 05:20 AM

Thanks for the link Skellyo, I checked out the "What is CORR?" section and was amused to see in the video that goes with it that one of the guys is driving a Traxxas truck

Ffactory666, who makes the Hardcorre body or do you have a link? I tried a google search for it and got some very interesting results but nothing to do with toy cars

Finished the rattle can paint job but didn't get to run it at it's mayden voyage on a track today

We had our yearly big race event called Judgement Night 08 today but got rained out with storms and hail . I was going to run it in between the nitro classes as a demo but no luck .

Don't look too close at the paint as the freakin paint ran through the tape i used when masking .

Cain 11.25.2008 05:39 PM

nice! for the run throughs, you could line it with a permanent black marker. Brings out the seperation of colors and hides those bleeds too.

So, when can we see some vids? :)

BashemSmashem 11.30.2008 11:20 PM

Looks good !

I recently did a convertion too my Ofna Raver buggy ....
