What´s your idea of sweden?

I´m just curious of what you guys think sweden is like since I am swedish myself

Do we have polar bears walking around on our streets? Are all our women blonde and have names like Hildegard or Brunhilda?
Amuse me with our wildest speculations

lincpimp 09.24.2008 03:27 PM

From what I have heard you all speak spanish???

I don't speak spanish!

Supposedly you have very attractive women.

Hakan_J 09.24.2008 03:48 PM

JThiessen 09.24.2008 08:44 PM

WHere in the hell is that? Have a hard time believing its a U.S. building.

Anyway - Sweden: Cold for 9 months of the year. You can get beer in the vending machines at work, AND everyone goes on vacation at the same time for a month!
The blonde blue eyed hot girl thing is a myth - most are brunette's.

I cheated - I had 5 Swedish engineers work for me for a couple years. Learned a lot from them - 'cept how to say anything in their language! They thought we had the best skiing in the world out here.

plettenbergs 09.24.2008 09:19 PM

you all wear wooden shoes with little flowers painted on the toe, you guys make your power with huge white propellers thingys:intello:!...you live near AMSTERDAM!!!...puff,puff,pass

TexasSP 09.24.2008 10:10 PM

You are referring to the Dutch which are in Holland, not Sweden.

Haven't been to Sweden myself but the women I have seen are beautiful for the most part and the country is beautiful and mountainous. Had some good friends get married there 2 years ago and my wife and I plan to visit sometime.

azjc 09.24.2008 10:19 PM

since I live in 100+ deg heat 8+ months of the year I would have to say it is too cold and the women wear way too much clothing....lol

Well aside from the obvious physical reasons , if it weren't for Sweden (or that general area of Europe) I would have very few choices when it comes to good music!

I'm talking about metal, not those wierd elongated trumpet things..."Riiiiiiiiicccoooooolaaaaaa"

Gee 09.24.2008 10:30 PM

I like brunettes. I picture snowy alps, subalpine trees, cobblestone streets, wooden carts, cars that run on hydrogen (not the fjords though) and until a few minutes ago. Beautiful blondes. Not sure if everyone friendly or not. That just the Norwegien in me speaking though. Rape Pilage Plunder....Go home for vacation.

That stuff is pretty cool. I remember when Metallica played with the symphony a while back. To be honest though, it's not something I'd be caught listening to. What can I say? My musical tastes have hardened over the years...

1) I don't know what you're talking about...

2) Wooooooo! Legos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mkrusedc 09.24.2008 11:21 PM

I think he means Switzerland not Sweden.

inventions - zippers and dynamite.

What's_nitro? 09.24.2008 11:23 PM

Who? Also, I think it's kinda hard to mix the two up...

Sammus 09.25.2008 12:01 AM

whoever said swiss miss hot choc for one.. swiss = switzerland.

I think of metal :) I bet you guys can just go down the local pub and catch like meshuggah or opeth or something just playing any old day of the week. your national anthem is probably metal lol

MTBikerTim 09.25.2008 01:36 AM

We had 2 girls come to our school on student exchanges at different times. They were both blonde and both hot. They were both pretty pissed though as our school system seemed to be a fair way behind theirs.

Dafni 09.25.2008 02:19 AM

Sweden:

At first I was kind of "dissapointed", I was expecting a bit more amusing ideas of what sweden is like and you guys seemed to have a pretty good idea of sweden, not quite spot on but still kind of close. But then it poped up a few things that wasn´t really true and a few other things that gave me bit of a laugh

Quote:

From what I have heard you all speak spanish???
Nope, we don´t speak spanish, we speak swedish. If you want to hear what it sounds like you should listen to this, it´s from a swedish webradio station ( http://www.slayradio.org ) that specializes in commodore 64 music/remixes. They got a dj from england and thought that they would teach him some swedish so they set up a few lessons for him and the result was really funny, I really laughed my ass of
I guess it´s funnier if you know swedish but I still think that you`ll get a laugh from it

He he, thats holland you´re referring to and not sweden

Quote:

Well, we do have a fair deal of blondes with blue eyes but it´s a myth that ALL swedish people are blond. I guess it´s more common with brunettes but I´d guess the ratio would be about 40/60

Quote:

Apocalyptica is from finland. But scandinavians seem to be kind of close to each other, I feel pretty close to norweigans, the danish and finnish people as well. Seems almost like we´re just coming from diffrent parts of the same country even if it is diffrent countries

Quote:

The bank accounts is probably in Switzerland, they´re kind of famous for that and lego comes from denmark. But thats pretty close anyway

He he, metal is really big here in sweden, Meshuggah and Opeth (my favourite) are a few of our pride and joys in the metal scene. A few other would be At the gates, Soilwork, In flames and quite a lot of others, there really is a lot of great swedish metal bands.
Incidently, you might have heard of a few band from my home town? You might have heard of Nasum and Coldworker but the biggest bet (since you´re from australia) would be Millencollin, I´ve heard that they´re pretty big "down under"? I sometimes run in to a few of those guys when I´m out on the town.
I´d really like to have Opeth, Meshuggah or any similar band playing at the local pub any day of the week, that would be awesome

Do you have his latest songs?

Dafni 09.25.2008 07:21 AM

No, I only have The Botten

Always rock Dynamite, or that track 2, the girls love it... now if only I could understand one single word he says...

Your my favourite person now! I just saw opeth here, and am seeing meshuggah in about a month :mdr::na:

Not a fan on in flames, and I had no idea millencollin were swedish lol! I used to be a fan, but am more in the metal scene these days.

One day I will live in sweden...My friend just moved to denmark and I plan to visit in the next few years can't wait to be there.

Oh, I just thought of another thing swedish. (and this one is a little weird) Electrolux Assistent! Stupid mixer is like the ultimate mixer for making pizza dough, but only exists in the states (magic mill) and sweden! Noone has ever heard of it here! Even the electrolux reps!

You´re right there, scandinavia is actually sweden, norway and denmark. What I really should have said is that NORDIC people seems quite close to each other but it seems to me that mostly we include finland in everyday language when we talk about scandinavia even if it´s wrong. At least I do that

jordan... 09.25.2008 07:56 AM

Wow :gasp:, i didn't know there were any other metal heads here, but then again i never asked... Hey Nephre, you into any Aussie hardcore/metal? Heard of Parkway Drive or I Killed the Prom Queen? Sammus would know who i'm talking about!!

By the way, that´s pretty cool that your planing to move to sweden :mdr:

I´m not really a fan of Millencollin either since I´m into metal myself just as you. I used to think they where ok but I wouldn´t say I´ve ever been a fan of them. And when it comes to In flames I´d say that their old albums are much better than the new ones, the later ones is just not as heavy as old ones. But I still think that they´re ok

Alright, sweet. Another thing Sweden brings to mind, Volvo, uugghh...

Nephre 09.25.2008 08:22 AM

Just had a quick check at youtube; both Parkway Drive and I Killed the Prom Queen seems to be quite good, I´ll definitely check them out a bit more. I don´t know if it´s just me but it seems to me that you can trace something of that "swedish" sound in their music, they´ve got a bit of that gothenburg sound (göteborgssoundet)

He he, I don´t really like volvos myself. I drive a Toyota and I´ll never buy another car if it isnt a Toyota or a Lexus. My brothers volvo breaks down all the time while my Toyota just keeps on running

jordan... 09.25.2008 08:31 AM

A little maybe, theres definately a difference in vocals. The guitar tone isnt as noticeable as Swedish metal though, when you hear the intro to any Swedish metal band, you're just like, 'yep, i know where they're from'

Nephre 09.25.2008 08:44 AM

I can´t say what it is but there is something that reminds me of swedish metal. It´s not much but it´s still something

TexasSP 09.25.2008 09:28 AM

Big fan of Soilwork here as well, and well Meshuggah, I have loved them for years. I stumbled across them accidentally about 12 years ago in the states on tour with some other guys, been a fan ever since. I also like my Frederik Thorendahl solo album, Special Defects I think is the name of it.

I love metal simply because of the complexity, normal rock just trudges along and most sounds the same, but metal has so many different moods and sounds. I also like to fall asleep listening to metal. Recently while helping my wife at a youth camp and feel asleep at night listening to August Burns Red to drown out the kiddies.

I actually thought I posted that for a second!

It would be strange to live in a place where the only food is meatballs or little chewy candy fish....

What's_nitro? 09.25.2008 11:39 AM

That would be awesome! Assuming you love both of those foods.
