LST 1/8 scale diffs in an Emaxx

Next project. So this has been done by a few members here before, including me. I did not care for the method by which the diff was held to the bulks. So I did some measuring and some material sourcing. Found some great thermoplastic that I could make the adapters out of. It is of similar material to the stock bulks. I was going to use al, but decided that plastic would be easier to machine, lighter and allow some flex. Here are some pics of what I have so far. I am waiting on the al front collars so that I can mod them to work. The bulks will have to be trimmed slightly to accomodate the wider nose of the LST diff case. Not much material to be removed, and can easily be done with a dremel or hobby knife.

Hopefully this will provide an alternative to the FLM hybrid bulks. Losi offers a variety of diff gears and cups, along with plastic and al cases. My intention is to test this setup extensively and possibly offer the components to anyone interested. I should have more info after I receive the front case collars.

so many innovations lately linc, looks very nice- how will they hook up to the stock slider shafts though?

Don't worry, got all that figured out. Plus I have methods to attach any type of CVD as well. Wait until you see all of the diff options, this is definately the best bet in heavy duty diffs...

I have tons of ideas, and have finally decided to throw it all out.

Lincpimp Racing, for sure!

lincpimp 09.24.2008 10:44 PM

So I have been looking around, and it seems like the lst/aftershock diffs can be had for about 20 bucks each. And Losi makes a heavy duty diff cup to that looks very sturdy, and comes as a complete kit...

IIRC the heavy duty case is standard issue, not an upgrade?

I dug around I'm wrong, nice find Linc.

They were not in my aftershock, but i will pull the exploded diagram of the lst2 and see if they are in there. I use the Nova RC al cups in my Aftershock, but these Losi heavy duty cups are cheaper and look to be just as good.

Heres some other cool parts for the diffs, TiN coated gears should last a while, but are not cheap...

I did anyway. The exploded diagram for the lst2 shows the same cup as the aftershock...

I am sure that the stock lst2 diffs, even the plastic case versions will be plenty strong for all but the heaviest truck with huge tires...

You have to much time on your hands... But that is funny!

Haha, thanks. Not much to do when you're home sick...

When you are done with this, I'll send you a couple of my trashed out Revo bulks to see if you can get them to work in that.

Please do, I do have a few revos, but no spare bulks at the moment. I have a feeling that the bulks would need some work to fit the lst case, but still cheaper to sell someone modded bulks than a hybrid style diff case. Not necessarily as good as the hybrids, but cheaper. More options are always good.

Pimp my Emaxx....

A purpose built adaptor would encourage more people to go this route; the guys who I've suggested the LST2/Muggy diffs to were scared away... buy having to find a little bit of plastic and trim it in half (oh-so difficult :sarcastic:). This would be as good as UE Ultralites pretty much, only much much cheaper.

Basically identical to the UE setup... You would really like my setup, nice snug fit and lines everything up perfectly...

Showoff!! :na:

suicideneil 09.25.2008 04:08 PM

Indeed, shame I already have the UE/Hotbodies diffs, otherwise I'd be interested for certain.

You could always build another maxx...

jayjay283 09.26.2008 11:40 PM

Yeah but the lst/muggy etc diffs only have 4 spider gears. I have some of those heavy duty cups for them, same cups for 8 & 8T, (Ill send one with your traxxas center diff) to check out, Its alot nicer than the stock cups.

Thanks Jay, I will have to check out the heavy duty cup. Would make a good alternative for the rear diff, as that one seems to take more abuse than the front.

I just finished up the bpp torpedo chassis and used a plastic case std diff in the front, and a al case std diff in the back. Both are shimmed properly, and it seems like a nice setup. The std lst gear sets are lower ratio than the maxx so a larger pinion will be required. I figured that I would try the "weakest" lst diff setup in this truck and see how they do.

What setup are you planning? I can see lutach's ESC, kind of hard to miss.

lincpimp 09.27.2008 12:10 PM

8s lipo, via a pair of 4s 3700 fp packs. Aveox 36/38/2 motor (1100kv or so). I also have a mega motor that would work nicely that I may try out. I need to pick out some tires out of the collection, but am leaning towards a set of 40 series wheels with bowties...

I have a hitec 5997 servo and will run spektrum via the m8...

BL_RV0 09.27.2008 12:12 PM

What's the rotor length of the aveox?

It is identical to a 1515 2y. All of aveox motors are y winds. And the numbers represent the outside dimensions of the can, where the neu specs are the rotor... Same construction in both motors.
