Which Radio?
I have 4 trucks. All of which have brushless systems in them. I am wanting to upgrade to a better radio system. Maybe something sysnthesized. I want to be able to run it on all my trucks. But I still want to be able to use other transmitters with the other trucks in case I have friends over. What is the best way to do this.
1. Rustler- GTB 5.5 (This I run the most0 2. Rustler- SS5800 (Run it sometimes-usually there for friends to drive or family0 3. Emaxx- HV-Maxx(Here and there, not to often.) 4. Stampede- 8s/MGM80(Work in progress) These are my trucks , what is the best way to get FM in them but have the ability to run them separately. My main focus is to be able to get one radio in my hand for all cars while still having backup radios when I have company. Does this make since? Thanks in advance. |
It makes perfect sense to me. I use a JR XS3 with two rs 300 synthesized recievers and a Futaba mag jr fm with one stock reciever and three novak XXL recievers so i know where you are going. my suggestion would be to get a JR XS3 radio for you and pick up a few JR XR3i's with different crystals so your friends can run with you, but you can run any by changing your frequency on the XS3

I run a MX-3 (non-synthesized) that I have 2 receivers for to run 2 cars. It has a 5-model memory, so it would fit what you are looking for (except the synthesized part). FM receivers can be gotten for $43 brand new including a crystal.

I run a futuba 3 pm. it has the 10 model memory. I like it. But there are better and worse.

The only ones that work with a JR XS3 is the XR3i. You could go with the Novak XXL and get a bunch of Futaba mag jr fm transmitters, but you need the futaba crystals and JR crystals so that will not be cheap. There is not a cheap way to set this up unless you are really lucky on ebay
So one XS3 and 3 XR3i's. That is pretty dang expensive.
I have the futuba 3 pm fm. I want to run more than one truck with mine. What rx can I get to run with it? Sorry for the jacking bigair
bigair78 - I sent you a PM.
coolhandcountry - I would suggest you check out the Hitec HFS-03MM. It's a 3-channel 75mhz FM receiver that Hitec says is "universal". With Airtronics crystals, I have used 4 of these receivers in many different vehicles and never had a problem. Chances are you just need Futaba crystals. They are the least-expensive 3-channel receiver I was able to find when I bought my 4. |

I am going to try out the hitec. If it works great. If not oh well. I have to get back to you all on this. Thanks batfish.

I am pretty sure airtronics/KoPropo and JR are all compatible. I have all three, so I will give it a try tomorrow.
The difference in radio crystal compatibility comes down to positive or negative shift. There are other minor manufacturing differences, but it's the shift that matters most.
The Hitec HFS-03MM receiver I mentioned works with either shift; you just need to add compatible crystals for your radio. |

whoops! I forgot! give me a couple minutes.
Yep, all compatible(I use an airtronics receiver with my KO radio, so I tried a KO reciver with my JR..worked just fine)
Do you prefer the JR/Airtronics to Futaba/Hitec. I went to two different LHS's and got two different answers. One said the futaba is "dialed in better" and the other prefered JR. What are your thoughts?
i personally like airtronics, jr and ko propo
I have a futuba. I like it alot. I can not tell about the other cause don't have. I guess it goes to say different controlers for different folks.
I had a futba and a jr but not a FM futaba. I heard FM has their own frequenceys and aint comptabile. I honestly like the jr xs3/pro. The price is pretty decent. If u wanan go cheap, the best deal is the mx-3. I've seen them go for around 50 with receiver and maybe a set of crystals.
hoestly the dx-3 isnt but a very little more than the xs3-pro. worth the extra IMO.
the dx3 is a good deal. Alot of my freind shave it. Problem is that the antenna breaks off alot (cover). i dont think u can replace it though.

Ok I haven't been running or keeping up on the latest R/C stuff for a few months, mainly because I can't get to my workbench at the moment :(, but have you considered the Nomadio? If you can swing the price, it eliminates all of the crystal and compatability questions you have. Soon as I can afford it I'm getting one.
That XS3 allready was a bit too expensice, so that nomadio is too much of it i guess..
