plaviblue 10.04.2008 09:27 PM

Just burnt up my 3rd MMM with about 1 min of slow speed and was cogging really bad. Lost stearing and coasted into a bush. Pulled it out and as I started, flames shot out the top :cry::grrrrrr:

jhautz 10.04.2008 09:37 PM

Well Id say its a good decision unless you need it as a dependable ECS right now.

If you can tolerate it dying if it does and waiting until they get this mess figured out you scored a totoal deal that you wont see again once the V3 is released.

All that said.. Ive killed a V1 and a V2, but I have another V1 that has a good bit of time on it now and it seems to be holding up OK. (of course my first V1 made the 20 hour make before it died too) Not sure whay some seem to die and others work, but if you get a good one your fine, if you get a bad one, you wait.

I have a Mamba Max for back-up.

KINGSKID 10.04.2008 10:05 PM

I've been running V1 since early may. Twice a week for Track practice, and once to twice a month racing. The first thing all of us should do to stop these things from going up in smoke is to run the fan wires out of the esc to another source. On both the V1 and V2 the fanwires come in contact with the edge of the circuit board and short out in time. Either use the reciever or balance plug to power the fan. Most whom made this move early with there esc's still are using them sucessfully. Hopefully they address this first in the V3.

What's_nitro? 10.04.2008 10:12 PM

Plaviblue, it sounds like you had the "Heatsink touching the output plugs" problem. One phase was always shorted so it cogged no matter what. Unless it was geared for like 80mph, then that would be your problem. :mdr:

I had a 54 spur and 16 pinion. I got my eagle tree data logger connected so I could do 1 or 2 good runs before things heated up too much to see where my current draw and rpm was. Guess not.

My back up is a stock e-maxx all FLM.....never brakes and always runs. Not bad for $600.......as opposed to the truck sitting on my workbench since may and about $1700 invested in it.:gasp:

plaviblue 10.05.2008 12:08 AM

Just found out when the MMM died it took out one of my brand new enerland hard packs. The copper tap comming out of the lipo cell was completely melted in half right before it was soldered to the positive lead. I guess it acted like a fuse....would have been much more flames if it would have not opened the circuit.

phatmonk 10.05.2008 12:18 AM

Dont fear the MMM reaper.I have 3 and all work great. And I am running 4s with a
Neu 1512/1.5 d and hammer the crap out of it

Unsullied_Spy 10.05.2008 01:33 AM

I considered buying one, but it's only $20 or so cheaper than normal and I'd like some more of the bugs to get worked out before I buy one. Besides, I'm in the market for a nice Bushmaster AR-15 with an M203 and 90 round magazine

Sammus 10.05.2008 04:40 AM

I've got two box stock that are still running hard. Don't listen to the haters, most of em are just trolling.

I don't personally know anyone thats had anything go wrong with one...I still wont even accept there is a problem till I see one lol.

As long as you know what proper gear mesh is and don't expect to easily wheelstand all the way to 100mph in a 10kg all alloy monster truck, you should be right.

Every penny counts in my book. I hate it for you, but i just sold a bushmaster exactly like that with 2 90round beta mags for $800:surprised:.

Fast5sRevo88 10.05.2008 01:54 PM

I guess taking the fan off and exposing the heatsink would void the warranty?

plaviblue 10.05.2008 02:40 PM

Does anyone have a vehicle still running on 6 cells? It seems that all the functioning MMM are on 5 cells or less.

Last night I put in my 4th MMM..... the darn thing would not even arm. I could not get the red light to stop blinking.

plaviblue 10.05.2008 02:41 PM

Is it possible to have the motor go bad from the ESC frying???

I've got two of em, both on 6s.

Fast5sRevo88 10.05.2008 09:58 PM

I don't want this thread to get off subject, so i want to say i plan on running it on 5s. So please only post results from 4-5s operation. Also what can u mod that won't void the warranty. We have enough threads ranting about MMM, don't make this another one:smile:.

My first MMM stopped after 20 minutes on 4s, I then saw the great price that Monster Mike had on the MMM's so I thought I would try my luck and it has paid off. I am finally able to enjoy my first electric truck. I am still running on 4s in an erevo with a Neu 1515 1.5D.

FastXR 10.07.2008 09:22 AM

I just installed a MMM V2 in my brushless converted CEN Matrix truggy (JHautz you will remember this one!), Im running 5s lipo and a Fiegao 9XL for now until I can afford to upgrade to a Tekno Neu. So far three packs thru it and no problems, fan on the esc is hardly needing to turn on and everything seems to run well, the power is absolutely insane, it does wheelies at will. I'm taking it out to the track tonight to set up all of the esc settings for racing, right now its basically set to defaults.

UPDATE:

Took it to the track tonight, adjusted the punch control to about 50% and set the motor timing to Lowest setting since I knew I wouldnt need max power, took it out for about 5 laps and it was running great but still too much bottom end so I brought it in and adjusted the punch control up to the maximum and plugged battery back in turned the esc on and nothing, no lights, no beeps, nothing at all. Unplugged battery, redid the programming seemed to program fine, hooked back up still nothing. So much for that looks like another dead V2.

Fast5sRevo88 10.13.2008 03:00 PM

I recieved my MMMv2 Saturday. I have to solder up some connectors before i test it, hopefully i will have a race soon to put it to the test. I plan to test it in my truggy with 9xl and 4s geared 46/11 with no mods on the ESC. What is the LVC default setting?

DickyT 10.13.2008 04:22 PM

The LVC default should be auto lipo, but not a bad idea to plug in the castle link and take a peak before you run it. Maybe a few other things like lowest motor timing, low start power, dial in some punch control etc.

Fast5sRevo88 10.13.2008 04:38 PM

Ok:mdr:
