Who Can rebuild Lipos?

Im looking for someone to remove dead cell from my 5s zippy pack.. my momster ate it...

Arct1k 10.22.2008 08:21 AM

da pimp...

lincpimp 10.22.2008 10:10 AM

Woot!

brushlessboy16 10.22.2008 06:19 PM

ok, i would need one cell removed...

Its an odd problem. all the cells are reading 3.87v except for one which reads 0.0v and i get no votage through the deans plug. like there is a physical break somewhere as there is no puffing or anything visible..

also i have one cell with a loose cover, not sure if its the cell casing itself or just a plastic film. the cell hold voltage well and is balanced with all other..

Thank you for the help

Arct1k 10.22.2008 06:23 PM

Sounds like a physical break all cells may be fine

Bathroom? water + lipo = BAD

lincpimp 10.22.2008 07:44 PM

That pack looks like the cells are soldered together. Showul be easy enough to seperate the cells and check them individually. I would remove the bad cell asap. Leaving a bad cell in the pack can kill the others...

What's_nitro? 10.22.2008 07:50 PM

Awe it's the middle cell too! That's a pain. Sorry for your loss(es).

brushlessboy16 10.22.2008 07:50 PM

since yesterday voltage in the cells has not moved.. im afraid to solder lipos  dont have a very steady hand

Oh that would be too easy to comment on....

Just use some tape to cover up the areas you are not try to heat up. Or send it to me...

yeah with you its either make things so bland that you wont comment, or make them so outrageous that it is blatantly obvious what can be said....
seemed to work nicely eh?
ill try and see what i can do..

seems like there is a plastic ladder-like thing in there.. hope it wont be a problem

brushlessboy16 10.22.2008 08:59 PM

You will most likely not have much luck fixing that, they usually break off too close to the foil to get to. Maybe a pic would help...

Cut away some of the extra foil, i can solder the tab to it

BL_RV0 10.22.2008 11:28 PM

Nice detective work Ben. Your + sign looks like a windmill, FWIW.

I may be able to solder something onto that, but I will see when you send it to me...

MetalMan 10.23.2008 01:00 AM

Looks like in the process of acquiring the remainder of the tab you also pretty much destroyed the seal. If isn't done for already, then soldering that close to the seal will probably do it in. I'd recommend ditching that cell.

brushlessboy16 10.27.2008 02:03 PM

Well The pack went out today 10/27

If the cell is dead then 2 2s packs would work :D

@ BB16 and nitrodude

I got both lipos in today, and had a good look at them

bb16: your lipo should be fine, so I will solder it back together and see how it does. I can run it in my slayer as a load test, then recharge it. What is the pack spec?

nitrodude: your pack has a puffed cell, so I have removed it. I will say that protek use some very nasty glue and plastic to fill the end of the pack that has all of the connections. It is like hot glue and some sort of expanding foam type glue. I have removed enough of it to get to the contacts. What kind of pack do you want? 2 2s packs or a single 4s?

As a note to everyone else, I am not fond of the protek packs, but will continue to fix them. All other packs have been pretty easy compared to the protek.

nitrodude 10.29.2008 03:06 PM

One 4s pack would be great. Sorry about the added difficulty of the pack.
Thanks again.

brushlessboy16 10.29.2008 06:51 PM

Mine is a zippy 4000mah 25-30 pack :D

THANKS LINC!!!

Ok, I do not have the align style tap for 4s. I can put a hyperion tap on there, and I may have a thunderpower tap, but not sure...

THANKS LINC!!!

You are welcome. I will put your pack together tomorrow. All of the tabs soldered back together. Not easy, as the al did not want to tin...

that was the problem i was having, i didnt want to over heat the cell trying to tin that tab:whistle::oops:

lincpimp 10.30.2008 10:37 AM

I got it eventually, I think the glue that holds the foil on the tab was causing the issue. I got it eventually...

If it can connect to my charger its fine. lol.

brushlessboy16 10.31.2008 06:19 PM

Hey linc, any updates?

lincpimp 10.31.2008 06:24 PM

Should be able to have them all soldered back up by monday. I have a floor service in my office at work right now cleaning and polishing the floors, and that is where the solder station is set up (well it is in a box now!) So I will make a space upstairs and get the lipos done.

HA, I am paying some guy 100 bucks to clean, strip, polish, and seal the floors. It would cost me more to rent the equipment. And I would have to work too...

brushlessboy16 10.31.2008 07:33 PM

so YOUR not doing the floors, more time to solder

Plenty of time, just no place to do it. Should have it done by the weekend...
