Motorchoice BL FLM savage :)

Hello,

I are now at the point to decide wich motor to buy for my machine:yes:

I want to make it a very fast machine.I wqant the show the BL power to al my nitrofreaks at the club^.^

This is what i've calculated and seems to me very nice:

Is this a nice set-upr totally wrong:oops::oh:

The 1515 1.5d is too small for the Savage on 6s. It will heat up a lot. You should look into either a Lehner 1950 or a Neu 1521, or for absolutely insane power, a 1527.

Maciolus 10.24.2008 09:47 AM

Consider Medusa 80mm 1600kv as well :)

Joram 10.24.2008 09:57 AM

That's only 1600kv....

Well, here the ultimate set-up:

Well, then i beef my truck up with some strong stuff, and a lot of spare spurs, pinions and gearboxes,

1.5D on 6S? I don't like that at all. You don't need crazy high rpms to go fast.
BL motors have so much TQ they can pull a high gear fine. A 1521 or 80mm would be great. Even for insane speeds I wouldn't go over 40K rpms, but 35K would still be blistering.
You won't impress anyone if your 70mph Savvy can only be ran for 3min at a time before overheating.

Joram 10.24.2008 10:16 AM

Well, where can i buy the 1515 1d?
And wich gearing would be fine? 17/47 or something?

if you are running 6s stay away from the 1d it will pull WAY too many amps, I run a BL Revo with 10s and 1515/2y its fast and runs cool

Joram 10.24.2008 02:48 PM

Well, then i put a 1515 1Y into it on 6s, speed of 51Mph:lol::yipi:

rpms seem to be still on the high side. get it to 40k or close to it and get a pinion and gear it to the moon! should still be able to push it really well. and get some high discharge lipos!

Joram 10.24.2008 04:47 PM

To get 40k i can only use the 5s lipo....
What's wrong with 40k+ , in this case 48840 rpm. ?
70Km/h isn't that very fast, i want it to be as fast as my old Ofna Ultra Mbx; 80km/h :)

Typically after ~40,000 RPM (depending on the motor) efficiency starts dropping off. Lower efficiency means more power wasted as heat, or you aren't getting as much power out as the motor is capable of.

BL_maxx 10.24.2008 05:13 PM

well because even though it is a high quality motor its out of its efficiency "nook" and you will loose power through heat and cause your electronics to get warmer. with torque you can gear way high and achieve the same goal. you want 50mph? then i think a 2300 kv motor with 6s high burst amp rated lipos geared at about 24t pinion should get you there. but im guessing right now not really positive. there is a member on traxxas that his revo went 60mph on 6s with a lower kv nue all he did was gear to the sky. i think it was stumblin.

Joram 10.25.2008 03:25 AM

But, that big ass 1527 motor, can't i use that one, that will be very fast and strong:)

this et-up:

But, where can i buy the 1527 motor? Rc-Monster hasn't got them, Impact Rc either..?

Greetz,
Joram

jordan... 10.25.2008 04:09 AM

I got mine from Castle, took a couple of months though...

azjc 10.25.2008 07:24 PM

the 1527 will have too much torque for your application, a member named Electric Eel tried it and went back to a 1521 in a Savage and if you do want to try anyways I would go with the 1.5d ( 1500kv) with 6s lipo...here is a link to the thread he had

Joram 10.26.2008 05:56 AM

Yeah, so this set-up will be powerfull but not stripping everything into littel pieces:p

This is what i could do in my FLM savage... (Lehner 2230-11 & 6S)

http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...-11Gearing.jpg

They're basically saying, use a lower kv motor to keep rpm below 40k and temps down, and gear the truck up higher to get the speed you want, as the lower kv will have more torque to push the higher gears without heating up so much =)

Joram 10.27.2008 11:10 AM

Powerfull:)

But i have chosen this:

It's always good to add 0.5-1" of ballooning to get an accurate picture of how fast you'll really have your vehicle geared to go. Example: My BPP is geared for 34MPH and when I clocked it the speed was 46MPH which is exactly what Brian's calculator said it would be with 1" of ballooning. I have now a 20T in there which should give me 51MPH, but I might go down to a 16T just to keep things at a good bashing level.

Great choice this time! That setup would work beautifully.

plaviblue 10.27.2008 10:13 PM

Just had this same conversation with castle tech help today. Have the same truck but mine is about 18 lbs. He recomended the 1521 1y as the biggest alternative.
